DS4 got a detention at school today.
It has been arranged for the 4th September.

Would you prefer he did it in the holidays?

What on earth is the point of a detention after the holidays? What did he do that couldn't be resolved before the end of term.

Additionally I really hope you mean your 4th son and not your 4 year old.

So you prefer it placed in the holiday? Talk to the school. Staff is often around.

It could be a reminder and set him up for the school year ahead.

I work in schools. And that's batshit. It should be sorted out the same week. Not hanging over him until end of term.

When do they break up? I answered assuming they finish today or tomorrow but this sounds like they have a few days to go

Is Wednesday the last day? If so then yes better this term. If today was the last day I guess they can't give them the message they can do whatever they like with no consequence.

The reason they can't do it before end of term is probably staffing. Didn't they tell you what is for OP?

Maybe the teachers have had enough this late on in the term and can't be bothered to supervise any more troublemakers in detentions.

No i just get a notification from the app but it never says why.
I have to email the teacher and ask if I want to know what it's for. Unless DS tells me of course

Then don't give him a detention. Although it's interesting you jumped to him being a trouble maker in my experience detentions at secondary are more likely to be for uniform infractions or missing equipment not poor behaviour.

They never tell you? What have you done in the past, have you emailed to find out what it was for. Why isn't he just telling you himself? This all sounds very odd.

Unless he's done something really serious they shouldn't keep a detention hanging over him until the first day back to school in September.
Surely the start on a new school year should be a new start for pupils ...not beginning the year with a reminder of something done in July.
I'm a retired Secondary School teacher and have never heard of a detention from the old school year being carried over the start the new school year.

I suspect come September they won't be bothered to do it at all because they will have either forgotten about it or realised it's pointless.
