To think this detention timing is ridiculous?

DS4 got a detention at school today.
It has been arranged for the 4th September.

I used to administer detentions. It may be an error relating to the software/ platform they’re using - if this week’s detention for that faculty is full, it automatically begins to fill the next scheduled session. (We wouldn’t have scheduled next year’s detentions yet however.) Whoever entered it may not have realised this has happened, worth querying it.

Also posters are assuming it’s an after school - it could be a lunchtime one, depending on the school.

The system has probably automated to the next avaliable working day after the minimal notice period when the behaviour was logged. Tuesday may be too soon for notice. If breaking up on Wednesday there probably isn't detentions on due to early finishes or staff commitments (e.g. gatherings to celebrate the end of year and departing staff)

They will do detention when it fits in with staff. They have alot to do this week . Maybe your child shouldn't have got into to trouble to begin with. Think about that, it's punishment not fit in around what works best for student and parents.

Leaving it hanging over a child unless it is really serious and there is no way to do it this week is ridiculous. Frankly, if it's not so serious they can't make it happen tomorrow, they should let it go. I'd complain.Start September with a clean slate.
