“Please make cheques payable to”

I went for a private healthcare appointment recently and just got the invoice in the post.

It says that the preferred payment method is a cheque! I’m in my 20s and have never written a cheque before. AIBU to think they need to update their payment terms?

As regards using cash - until late last year I worked on a till in a local supermarket. I was there for over ten years - during the entire time we were about 50/50 cash and card payment. It didn't noticeably change over the decade.

So I'm not sure there's a swing back to cash. Those who always use cash always used cash and the card users ditto. We would get more cash payments during holiday season because a lot of people would come here on holiday (we are a 'destination') and use cash to pay for everything - presumably to help budget. In the entire ten years I never had one single person either try to pay by cheque or even tell me that we 'should' take cheques.

Mobile phones I think have more. Yet people use them to pay

It's usually from your own environment. Not feacal matter from where other people haven't washed their hands.

There are so many different ways to pay.

But only cheques allow you to pay a person, not an account.

If I ask you for a cheque, you know sod all about where I will pay it in.

I’ve never come across a shop that doesn't accept cash either but there are a number of takeaways near me that don't accept cards.

God forbid someone takes two minutes and looks at their phone while working!

No, I haven’t.

I posted the majority of my posts before I started work. A few on my break (when they didn’t answer the phone), and then three in the last 30 minutes or so - quickly checking my phone in between tasks. Not enough time to take a personal call.

One chain then. And none where I live. Only even seen them at airports

Hmm. So if you don't touch anything( like shopping trolleys and toilet doors when the person before you didn't wash hands) before touching your phone then you should be ok.

All I’m saying is that you freed up from the original statement that you had nothing more than a 15 minute window to make the call

1 at 09:36

4 on my break between 10:30 and 10:40

1 at half 2, as I walked back from my lunch meeting

3 between 15:01 and 15:06 when I was walking between meetings

1 now as I head back to the office.

During none of those times did I have time to call and pay. Apart from on my break, when they didn’t answer!

Unless you are with some of the newer banks like chase who don't except them. Or Nat West who app is too shite to accept them... strangely Lloyds accepted the rejected ones without an issue

You're the one complaining about having to make a phone call whilst telling us your own job involves making phone calls!

To make a credit card payment? Yes it is really. I was doing that in the 90s.

Yeah, us sad old gits who had to use cash back in the last millennium, well, it was like Armageddon out there. Dropping like flies we were, having to handle all that faeces smeared money. It was survival of the fittest, really. They made us tough back then, thank God.

I can’t tell if you’re being obtuse or genuinely don’t understand that it takes about 30 seconds to type a post on here, which can be done around people. Phoning up a business, saying my private information and then reading off my credit card number a) takes a lot longer and b) can’t be done in public.

How many times have you tried today? And never any answer?
