About the 80 page white floral dress thread. Update from the bride. Should I photoshop SILs white dress?

Hiya
Was umming and aahing about posting this here or in the chat section but AIBU is where the other threads were posted. IYKYK. I have had the (dis)pleasure of reading all 80 pages.

I'm the bride and I can confirm my SIL did turn up wearing the dress to the wedding. My best friend/MoH waited until after the wedding to show me the threads since some of the posts were a bit horrid tbh and she was so right I didn't need to see that before the wedding. She organised a post wedding girls night for me and the rest of our friends group who came to the wedding and that really was such a brilliant and surprisingly entertaining way to read through and digest it all with a few glasses of wine, some music and lots of love and support.

The consensus after last night's wine & whine is that I should keep shtum about the dress and the threads to MIL/SIL in person and that it would be better to create this thread and who knows they might come across it

Another idea that was floated last night was photoshopping the wedding photos with SIL in them to make her dress pink or yellow. If this is an awful idea we blame the wine!!

This is the weirdest way I've seen of an OP coming back for a second bite. The original wasn't all that interesting and certainly doesn't warrant a rematch.

Mind boggling really.

Is this the one where the MIL thought it was basically her wedding?

Can anyone link to anything? Literally any wedding thread will do 😂.

Coralsunset · 16/07/2026 17:24

Is this the one where your SIL thought it was “actually MILS wedding” because she had given you some money towards it.

And she was very annoyed you hadn’t asked her DD to be part of the wedding party.

She sounded absolutely horrible.

There are so many threads about people wanting to wear white dresses to weddings, I could be completely wrong!!!

Instructions · 16/07/2026 17:25

This is ridiculous.

I hope you had a lovely wedding and that your marriage is long and happy.

Someone wore a partially white dress to your wedding? So what? No one got confused about who was the bride, did they? Why do you need "love and support" around this? It's a dress! Your friends sound like utter drama llamas.

MinnieCoops · 16/07/2026 17:27

No clue what you’re on about but do what you want

Does no one in your family have hobbies?

I think the hobby is supported ‘wine and whines’. I expect to see that phrase on a mug in my local B&M soon.

Third!! She threatened promised us a third thread and this is the plot twist

Oh I’ve found it. Your SIL really doesn’t like you!

Wasn't it that MIL had then presumed that the White flowery Hobbs dress was also too white as well and told her not to wear it? Or her brother had told her not to wear it?
Tbh it came across like both bride and sil had unreasonable expectations. White flowery hobbs dress not bridal = fine
Bride = if she had seen the dress and said no would have come across diva like. (Still unclear on this!!?)
Original thread poster = a bit batshit anyway and by the end everyone sounded crazy!
Op - sorry it had a negative impact. Nice to know you (probably) arnt batshit.
Glad you had a good wedding. Congratulations. I would leave the photos. In a few months this will be a wtf anecdote from your wedding. (Unless you Photoshop the entire group with crazy things and then every time you look at the photo it will give you a giggle)
If you want to read of terrible things at weddings there's lots on here. This was minor, don't let it ruin anything . At my own wedding my mil begged my husband not to marry me and was then vile to my terminally ill mother. I got so drunk I don't remember much. (We are still married, a wedding does not marriage make!)

You made me giggle just imagining it! Photoshopping the whole group sounds absolutely insane and hilarious... but I will pass on that idea.

Sorry about what happened at your wedding and glad to hear you are still married - congratulations to you too and thank you!

Regarding the questions:
On that day MIL showed me various dresses I told her each one was lovely and she would look great in them but every time I said something nice she said no I'm not going to wear this because [SIL] said it's an ugly dress or I'm too old to wear that or [SiL] doesn't like it. It was a really weird and pointless exercise and she had carefully laid out another white dress nearby and never mentioned it. It all came across a bit theatrical and rehearsed tbh.

I was the one that texted MiL not DH. I just said it would be a faux pas [where I am from] if you're going to wear the white dress on the day, but it is lovely and would be perfect for the day before. I was trying to bridge a cultural gap but it was stupid of me

I did get several comments from guests asking what my SiL was thinking wearing that hobbs dress which was exactly what I wanted to avoid by sending that text to MiL. In hindsight I realise it is not my problem if they embarrass themselves

DH only ever reminded them all about the dress code which I asked him to do because I had been told FiL was planning on wearing shorts with spider man printed across... MiL turned up to the pre-wedding party the day before in a black superman top.

I always despair when I see women (and it's always the women, never the men) decide to get married and think that gives them some sort of 'power' to tell people what to wear.

Unless she turned up in a full bridal gown and veil, no-one's going to mistake her for the bride 🙄

Maybe some women hold no power or control in their own lives outside of weddings and babies (which is another thing that often provokes control freakery).

I would like to take control over the narrative you're imposing on me.

I personally did not have an issue with the dress. I wanted my in laws to really shine on our wedding day, in an environment that for them would be foreign. So I let them know that it would not be a good idea to pick something like that.

But I get that some people just cant handle genuine advice, care, and consideration, and have to view it all as some kind of power play.

I thought it was a perfectly nice dress, not at all bridal. I don’t see what the fuss was about.

Yes. I know it sounds completely insane and you are completely within your rights to not believe me because why the hell would anyone believe it I really don't blame you but I just wanted to provide that context for why I was stressed about them remotely following the dress code

Edited

And that's the control freakery right there ^^

It's a wedding, it's just guest's clothing but here you are again with all this fuss about it.

Although I agree with a PP regarding the shark.

He did actually change into those shorts the eve before the wedding, so at one point he was wearing spider man shorts and his wife was wearing a superman top. I might be able to find a picture of that.

I know you are being sarcastic and you think I'm full of sh*t, but just know it's validating to know this is so insane to you that you cant believe it. Because I agree it is insane.

This is like a new form of drama, I don't mean the acid out kind, more lube the soap opera kind. A writer tells a story from position A, then returns to write from position B, all within a chat-based forum setting.
