AIBU to find the cooler weather surprisingly cold after the heatwave?

Climate change and recurring heatwaves terrify me so I hate to admit this but the recent drop to the high twenties feels unbelievably cold. The overnight temperatures are positively wintry. Tell me I am not the only one!

YANBU.

I left the house just before 7am today for a run before work. The BBC weather app said it was 15C but it felt bloody freezing, particularly in the cold easterly wind when you’re wearing shorts & a thin vest top. Human beings really do acclimatise quite quickly and at the moment 28C+ is the new normal here in the East Midlands.

Conversely, on the first day in Feb or March each year when the sun comes out & the temperature creeps into double figures it feels warm.

PrettyLittleRose · 15/07/2026 17:59

Yeah, we've got the heating on 30C, and our thick fleeces on, thermal leggings, and thick jeans, a wooly jumper, 2 pairs of socks each, a hot water bottle, a bobble hat, and gloves, and also 2 thick weighted blankets each on top of 3 quilts on the bed.

Now it's dropped to 27-28 degrees C, me and DH are FREEEEEEEZING! 😖

ChipDaleRescueRangers · 15/07/2026 18:00

We have had the past 10 days with it hovering around 30 degrees. It is definitely not cold! My aircon is still on, yes it is getting cooler at nights than the last heatwave, but that is a blessing and I dont think an overnight temperature of 17-18 is "freezing".

Still flipping hot here in the SE. I'm just wearing a pair of knickers atm!

I’m on the South Coast, it still boiling, got my two fans blowing on me and I’m laying naked on my bed still sweating🥵

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/07/2026 19:07

Where are you? I’m still sitting here with the curtains closed and the fan on full blast at just gone 7 pm (outer SW London). I’d love to feel chilly enough to want to wear pyjamas in bed!

heyjudedontmakeitsad · 15/07/2026 19:07

It was 17° this morning and I was cold 🤣

shoesandshipsandsealingwax · 15/07/2026 19:10

Still really warm here - 26 degrees at the moment.

lorikeet26 · 15/07/2026 19:16

Grew up in a tropical climate where I didn’t have or need a winter coat and anything under 25 degrees had us reaching for a jumper. It’s normal!

My family would think I was bonkers now for feeling hot when it’s mid 20s. 😂 But I do.

JulietteHasAGun · 15/07/2026 19:18

No I’ve been freezing today. Was hiking in the Yorkshire dales and wore a hoodie all day, was 23 degrees I think. I’ve come on holiday with no trousers and my legs were cold!

palona · 15/07/2026 19:19

Bit early for snuggling under a cosy blanket with twinkly lights and hot chocolate. 😊

Ilikewinter · 15/07/2026 19:19

Yes, I'm in Lincolnshire and its been cloudy and cool every morning this week. Lounge is currently 23 degrees but I've got a long sleeve top and tracksuit bottoms on! Also had the all the bedroom windows shut at night. The dog hates the sun and the heat, but even he's outside sleeping in a patch of sunshine!

JulietteHasAGun · 15/07/2026 19:20

I read an article today that explains it, takes two weeks for your body to become acclimatised to the hot weather. Which explains why if a Brit goes to Spain in March they may be in a tshirt while the locals are wearing coats.

inkgirl · 15/07/2026 19:22

Im right down south and its still hot here. Can't wait for the cooler weather. Meant to be this weekend

FedUpCelery · 15/07/2026 19:42

19 degrees max today and I've been cold

EmmaB1309 · 15/07/2026 19:55

Are you suffering from heatstroke maybe? Serious question.

toastandegg · 15/07/2026 20:58

Yes I woke up very cold this morning- it seems crazy as the temps are still reasonable but it’s such a difference from the last few weeks

sittingonabeach · 15/07/2026 21:00

We had cloud this morning but back to hot again now

PrimRoseLaffington · 15/07/2026 11:12

I'm in North Yorkshire.

Okay so down south its still very very hot!!
we haven’t really been much under 30 for 3 weeks. It was 29 yesterday and only drops under 26 at the weekend

Yeah but other parts of the country aren’t even much below 28-29 so we are all experiencing different environments

LaurieFairyCake · 15/07/2026 21:10

In London, air conditioners on all day. Was 28 with (according to the Beeb) feeling like 30 all day.

fucking hot as fucking fuck for weeks now

It's still 25C in my living room, with all the doors and windows open.

I'm just a few miles from the Sussex coast.

FairViewRosie25 · 15/07/2026 21:18

Put a hoodie on over vest & shorts this morning to walk the dogs but took it off 10 mins in. High of 25 here

FFSItsTooHot · 15/07/2026 21:27

Well it's certainly not cold where I live! A little bit cooler over the last couple of days,as in 28 degrees as opposed to 35 degrees last week, but by no stretch of the imagination would I say it's cold! It would have to drop below 20 degrees for me to feel even remotely cold. I'll be happy when it drops another 5 or 6 degrees to the low 20s. I'm definitely not a heat lover.

igelkott2026 · 15/07/2026 21:28

For me, it's only cold to the extent that before this week I was sleeping ON my bed, and now I am IN it again.

I'm in North Yorkshire.

Im in North Yorkshire too, froze on my way to work wearing a blouse, walked into town for an appointment and wore a fleece, back to the office and froze in the air con.
Supposedly in the 20's this morning but I was freezing, I'm usually a sweaty mess
