AIBU to keep photos of myself displayed in my bedroom?

A few friends came round for dinner and commented on the fact that I have a lot of pictures of myself displayed in my bedroom. They said it came across as self-centred, and one person even suggested I should take them down, saying they would call the police if I didn’t.

I have been thinking about whether they had a point and whether having lots of pictures of myself in my bedroom could genuinely come across that way. I can understand that everyone has different tastes and that some people might prefer a more neutral or less personal space.

At the same time, I live by myself and I’m single at the moment, so my bedroom is a personal space that reflects me. I do have pictures of my adult children displayed around the rest of my house, but the pictures in my bedroom are of my own memories, experiences, and moments that are important to me.

I don’t want to dismiss how others might see it, and I understand that not everyone would choose to decorate their bedroom the same way. But I was hurt by the way it was presented, as it felt more like criticism than a genuine conversation. What upset me most was that not one person stepped in and said they understood my point of view or that I had a right to have my own choices in my own home.

The situation ended up turning into an argument because they kept telling me to take the pictures down and I chose not to. They then said that if I wasn’t going to remove them, they would leave.

Am I wrong for having pictures of myself in my own bedroom, or is it reasonable to want my personal space to include things that make me happy?

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any odder

SallyD00lally · 14/07/2026 18:26

'Call the police'

'Take them down or they'll leave'

Indeed 🤨

WhatTheHellsGoingOn · 14/07/2026 18:27

They were trying to bully you into doing what they wanted you to do - remove things in your own house that they didn’t like. They’re fucked up ppl. That’s what kids might do. Bad enough as a shit joke but they persisted and it sounds like they were serious!

Would they be happy taking things that you disapproved of down in their houses? Thought not. They’d say you were talking shit. They feel superior to you and think they can intimidate you into doing what they want. Dangerous.

Frankly it is odd and I can imagine a situation at a friends house if everyone’s a bit pissed and the teasing of the friend with the pictures got a bit OTT. I’d like to think I’d be too polite to comment myself but I can see how it happened.

that said it’s your house and presumably 99% of the time it’s only you in your bedroom and you like them so keep what you like. (However it/when the time approaches for a guest up there maybe reconsider? 🫣)

You friends looked around your bedroom when they visited?

Coralsunset · 14/07/2026 18:28

Were they not just joking about calling police?

DeterminedRat · 14/07/2026 18:28

I think that your friends intended it to be a jovial pisstake of unusual decorating choices but obviously it hasn't landed.

WellThatIsABitMad · 14/07/2026 18:28

They’re all out on here tonight.

Overtheatlantic · 14/07/2026 18:29

LTB and take your glamour shots with you.

frenchnoodle · 14/07/2026 18:29

This has to be an AI created post where the subject of the photo has been changed surely? Was it originally step children or something?

Fleurdalys · 14/07/2026 18:29

This didn’t happen

Funnytaster · 14/07/2026 18:30

It didn’t happen

but my goodness this OP needs help!

Funnytaster · 14/07/2026 18:30

This is going to be one seriously lonely person

Blanketyblank04 · 14/07/2026 18:30

A lot of weird threads on here lately. Must be the weather

KittyKokum · 14/07/2026 18:32

It's your place, your space, OP, and therefore nobody's business at all how you decorate it.
An individuals bedroom is especially private, so no comments, particularly highly negative, should be expressed by anyone not sharing the room with you.

" Call the police"? LOL, what kind of remark is that? Hopefully a joke.
Many people display wedding photos, and what are they but lovely remainders of a happy event, and if your photos evoke the same feeling of happiness and memories OP, then enjoy them and pay these friends no mind at all.

JLou08 · 14/07/2026 18:33

It's a bit odd having pictures of yourself. Not as odd as your friends leaving and threatening to call the police though. Your friends are really OTT.

Happyjoe · 14/07/2026 18:34

If this is real.... Your house, your bedroom, your rules. Threatening the police and to leave is just amusing - I'd have sent them packing. You need better, less judgemental friends.

shoesandshipsandsealingwax · 14/07/2026 18:37

I think the heat has gone to your head, OP.

Ellebelle01 · 14/07/2026 18:39

Hahahahaa stop itttttt 😆😆😆

Ellebelle01 · 14/07/2026 18:39

Pics to prove or it didn’t happen 😆😆😆

saraclara · 14/07/2026 18:52

How many photos are there? 5? 10? 25? 50? More then 50?

ClearFruit · 14/07/2026 18:54

Cosyblankets · 14/07/2026 18:19

I don't believe any of this

Same.

Nanda66 · 14/07/2026 18:56

I don’t understand. They would call the police if you didn’t take down photos of yourself in your own home? That can’t be right.

MyEasterBonnet · 14/07/2026 18:56

My friends parents used to have sexy/boudoir pics of the mum up on the walls of their bedroom and I found that odd.

BeardySchnauzer · 14/07/2026 18:56

I feel this must be a dream OP had after falling asleep with 50 versions of herself staring at her
