AIBU to keep photos of myself displayed in my bedroom?

A few friends came round for dinner and commented on the fact that I have a lot of pictures of myself displayed in my bedroom. They said it came across as self-centred, and one person even suggested I should take them down, saying they would call the police if I didn’t.

I have been thinking about whether they had a point and whether having lots of pictures of myself in my bedroom could genuinely come across that way. I can understand that everyone has different tastes and that some people might prefer a more neutral or less personal space.

At the same time, I live by myself and I’m single at the moment, so my bedroom is a personal space that reflects me. I do have pictures of my adult children displayed around the rest of my house, but the pictures in my bedroom are of my own memories, experiences, and moments that are important to me.

I don’t want to dismiss how others might see it, and I understand that not everyone would choose to decorate their bedroom the same way. But I was hurt by the way it was presented, as it felt more like criticism than a genuine conversation. What upset me most was that not one person stepped in and said they understood my point of view or that I had a right to have my own choices in my own home.

The situation ended up turning into an argument because they kept telling me to take the pictures down and I chose not to. They then said that if I wasn’t going to remove them, they would leave.

Am I wrong for having pictures of myself in my own bedroom, or is it reasonable to want my personal space to include things that make me happy?

What the fuck did I just read, they threatened to call the police over some photos?

IMakeHisNervesBad · 14/07/2026 18:14

Ok i personally wouldnt have pictures of myself up but why do your 'friends' feel they can dictate what you have in your house?

And to phone the police? And say what?

This is so odd

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 14/07/2026 18:14

What's everyone doing in your bedroom? Was this a sex party? Ask MN to move this to the sex topics you pervert.

The pictures are fine though. Ignore them.

KeptWomanSummer · 14/07/2026 18:15

Why were your friends in your bedroom anyway?

But yes, if you’re on your own in the photos then it’s weird.

PrincessofWills · 14/07/2026 18:15

Were they 'of a pornagraphic' nature?

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 14/07/2026 18:16

You can display whatever you like in your bedroom it’s none of your friends’ business.

Mumofmarauders · 14/07/2026 18:16

I wouldn’t want pictures of myself in my bedroom personally but I can absolutely see why someone would, it’s not just to admire yourself, it’s (I imagine) because those photos capture those times in your life and the memories. I think your friends sound bonkers, who commands someone else how they can decorate their house and threatens to leave?!? Even if the photos weren’t their thing it’s not like swasktikas ffs.
enjoy your bedroom the way you like it OP

BeardySchnauzer · 14/07/2026 18:16

It is a bit odd - although even odder if studio shots!

but their reaction is even odder - not really their business and they were very rude as guests in your home

ByRoseBiscuit · 14/07/2026 18:16

You all sound a bit odd from this post!!!

Error404FucksNotFound · 14/07/2026 18:17

Hang on. What? They said they would call the police if you didnt take the photos of you down?
What crime did they feel you are committing?

Are the pictures graphic porn and you're letting kids look?

Because if its not that, your friends are nuts.

Funnytaster · 14/07/2026 18:17

bored @ThisPeppyWriter ?

ThisPeppyWriter · 14/07/2026 18:18

They weren't graphic just normal pictures

OP posts:
Cosyblankets · 14/07/2026 18:19

I don't believe any of this

AgnesX · 14/07/2026 18:19

If you're with other people and the pics are those kind of memories; but if they're you on your own or "boudoir" pics they're a bit naff really.

Lemonade2011 · 14/07/2026 18:21

How utterly bizzare. Ditch the friends
Must be one of the strangest things I’ve read on here.

Anarchy99 · 14/07/2026 18:21

I think it’s odd but you do you. I couldn’t imagine having any photos of me on display - I know what I look like so there’s no need!

Dearg · 14/07/2026 18:22

As they were ‘normal’ pictures, then your friends are being rude, and the one who was going to report to the Police - utterly bat-shit - just why?

It does rather depend on your motivation though - happy memories? Great. You just like looking at yourself? Vanity.

But, still your business.

ThisPeppyWriter · 14/07/2026 18:18

They weren't graphic just normal pictures

So then what was their reason?
Its impossible to believe this one tbh but im curious.

OneLimePombear · 14/07/2026 18:23

I’ve got loads of myself on display, my wedding, graduations, formal nights on cruises and so on. Hopefully I won’t get arrested.

SerendipityCat · 14/07/2026 18:23

What were your "friends" all doing in your bedroom in the first place, what the fuck gives them the right to comment on your choice of photographs, and why didn't you tell them to fuck off? And as for calling the police, words fail me. Either they were too pissed to make sense, or they're terminally stupid.
Either way, they're not good friends.

Mrstawnyowl · 14/07/2026 18:23

Surely the friend who threatened to call the police was kidding. She’d be laughed out of the police station. Why are your friends so adamant you take your pictures down? It’s none of their damned business.

Naurrr · 14/07/2026 18:23

What was the crime? Don't have these people in your house again.

Not sure why they were in your bedroom.

AnNonnyMouse3 · 14/07/2026 18:24

Police? Because of your interior decor choice?

Did this actually happen, OP? 🤔

Gazelda · 14/07/2026 18:25

What would she report you to the police for?

tell them all to sod off and find new friends.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 14/07/2026 18:25

Go on then.

What, exactly, was the reason for your 'friend' to say they would call the police if you didn't take the pictures down. In YOUR bedroom, in YOUR house? What crime did they say you were committing? How were you breaking the law?

There's strange - and then there's this.
