Your suggestion wasn't about rehabilitation 'though. It was about training criminals in violence and warfare, using them to further political ends and to harm people, and treating them as cannon fodder.

That's not rehabilitation.

no but it is makeing them into a better and more useful asset for the greater good of society and the country and the criminals are then repaying their sins for sinning to begin with by doing the greater good for their country

Jesus is a fictional character in a storybook, but I'm pretty sure the whole purpose of his character was forgiveness and understanding.

"Certain crimes" means, of course, "crimes I particularly dislike" and "crimes committed by the sort of people I don't like."

Other people will have their own per hates.

change the system use the jury to decide guilt or not then a panel of judges to decide the suitable level of punishment upto the death penalty ?

I would never convict if I were on a jury if there was a possibility of the death penalty being applied. Never.

What on earth are you talking about?!!!

Jesus was not a fictional character. He is referred to in Roman histories from the time. You might not believe he is the Messiah but it is complete nonsense to claim he is a fictional character.

The Jesus in the bible is fictional. He may have been inspired by an actual person, but the character and writing are fiction. No one can part the Red Sea, rise from the dead, or turn water into wine.

Regardless, he did not support the death penalty.

there was one other possibility for those who think they should be rehabilited and given a chance at life, have specialist military units that have high risk missions and base them at bases abroad and then train them for those missions ?

They made a film about that in the 1960s. 😂

Genesis 9:6, which establishes the principle of capital punishment based on humanity being made in the image of God

"Whoever sheds the blood of a human, by a human shall that person's blood be shed; for in his own image God made humankind."

That's the old testament where bunch of weirdos wrote that you should literally kill your first born child as a human sacrifice.

The new testament isn't quite as horrific, at least In Matthew there's the whole eye for an eye /turn the other cheek... Also where Jesus topping the stoning of a. Woman etc...

Zanatdy · 17/07/2026 21:47

No, 100% no

i forgot humanity changes the religion to suit modern times, no wonder no one will get to the pearly gates, because when or if they meet god then he will be what happened to my teachings and not the humans own versions

Policy should never be based on religion. All religion is nonsense.

Let's face it, man makes God in his own image. Pretty much explains everything.

I am fervently against because I think capital punishment is inhumane. And I have more faith in humanity. I would much rather money was spent on societal inequality and improving lives, than killing people.

EvilNextDoor · 17/07/2026 23:22

See some days after reading\viewing some horrific things I’m all for bringing back the death sentence

Then other days I see the sheer stupidity of the human race and think…nope bad idea we can’t be trusted to make the right decision

So I am probably not the right person to ask 🤷‍♀️

Religion should play no part in law for that I am certain..

You rehabilitate people by giving them proper access to education, counselling, work opportunities, and health care, like the Norwegian prison system mentioned, not by holding them overseas as slave labour and cannon fodder.

One system creates useful, balanced members of society. The other one creates mentally unstable killing machines, hence being the plotline for multiple action and horror movies.

Maybe. However I am far from being the only person who is fed up of being made to pay to give criminals better chances than I am being given myself. We should all have the ability to access training and education forever, but most of us only get one shot and then have to pay through the nose for the rest of it. It does feel like being law abiding is being a mug nowadays. We do not have resources spare to waste and it should not be endlessly wasted on those who do so little to deserve it.

How many chances should we give criminals to sort themselves out, and at what cost, both monetary and in harm caused to innocent law-abiding people? Surely there has to be a limit and we have to consider them a write-off at some point?

You think any old random who happens to have committed a heinous crime is suited to specialist military service? Do you have any idea of the personal skills and qualities required to perform these roles? The self discipline, the courage, the ability to make life and death decisions? You badly insult military personel.
