There was something on Jeremy Vine earlier about some people being exempt. Other than people needing extra water for medical equipment, I have no idea what that is about.

Don’t you think they would just “sort out” the creaking infrastructure if it was that easy? That’s a completely separate issue to the hosepipe ban which is to reduce the water usage now when reservoirs are under threat of running low

As usual it will be the oiks that are expected to comply. I wonder whether the wealthy are keeping their swimming pools nice and refreshed! Or massive gardens watered.

Some years ago when there was a hosepipe ban, I bought a submersible pump so I could pump out the bath water into a water butt. And then use that for watering the garden. I feel this was completely ok.

We have two massive ones (1000litres) which have been filled up from rainwater gutters on our outbuildings. It will not take long to get through them though. The first one will be empty by the weekend.

Irrespective of the infrastructure and political issues, to just out and out ignore a ban is so stupidly reckless and poor citizenship. It’s indefensible and contemptible on any level.

No, it’s just a refusal to bow to the pressure of water companies who would rather we don’t use the water than they fix their networks.

I’ll happily abide by a hosepipe ban. I very rarely use a hosepipe anyway so won’t make any difference.
My disabled DS regulates through water. He spends approx an hour a day in the shower. He won’t be stopping that.

There absolutely is a logic.

All of the issues stem from water companies (in this case SWW), refusing to maintain and upgrade their network as required. They’d rather pay dividends to their shareholders.

So until they’ve put that money into the network, I won’t be complying with what they say.

The ‘selfish’ behaviour you so despise, is not monopolised by those who choose to ignore a hosepipe ban.

Well said. I despair that so many people just think of themselves and don’t care about their impact on society as a whole.

The more pressure that’s put on them to fix their network, the better. If they realise people won’t accept being told they can’t use the services they pay for, they might have to do something

My dad is exempt because he has COPD. It’s because he would struggle too much in the heat to walk up and down the garden filling a watering can up. It takes much less time for him to water the garden with a hose!

Absolutely, it does. I’m old enough to remember when people were more considerate and respectful to others in general.

I doubt anyone would criticise him for using a hosepipe in his situation so it is even more important that those of us who can manage physically do abide by the ban
