Guy I’m dating didn’t wish me happy birthday.

Hoping for some insight whether I’m being petty or not.

Been dating a guy around 2 months. Consistent dates and seems to be going well. Says he sees a future ect.

For the last 2 weeks, I had noticed he has been taking much longer to reply and cancelled a date planned by himself at the very last minute to hang out with friends instead. This really ticked me off as I’d arranged babysitting.

I ended up sending a message that it didn’t seem to be working and all the best, hope he finds what he’s looking for.

He was extremely apologetic and has been making more of an effort since. Saying he’s been very busy with work but now that isn’t an excuse and really wants to continue working things.

Today is my birthday and haven’t even received a happy birthday text. He knows it’s my birthday as he asked when it was a few weeks ago and commented it was the day before his mams. 🙃

What would you do in this situation? Any advice appreciated!

Jesus op if you accept this now you’re in for a rough ride. I’m not saying he should spend a fortune and lavish you with gifts but a happy birthday text is the bare minimum. You’ve not even had that. This guy likes sex, not relationship material AT ALL

I accepted this behaviour from my husband when we first started dating thinking I was being a bit of a diva and now I've had to endure years of being hurt and having my feelings dismissed. I promise you it will not get better.

Ablondiebutagoody · 13/07/2026 16:22

Fade him out. If/when he contacts you next, very briefly say that it isn't working for you. Bye.

Sarah24x · 13/07/2026 17:24

Thanks for all the replies!

I will ignore any messages moving forward. Does sting though.

I do know how to pick em 🙃

Not your fault, you gave him the benefit of the doubt on the second chance. That makes you kind, not foolish. Not your fault he didn't make the most of it. Go easy you!

Bonkers1966 · 13/07/2026 17:34

Sorry this happened
At least you know now that he is not the one for you. Happy Birthday 🎉 🎂

Text him ‘hi, you forgot my birthday, I don’t think this is working’.

I would do something like this. And then delete his number after that.

He had a chance to make more of an effort, you gave him that second chance, but he’s blown it again.

I wouldn’t just delete and block his number saying nothing though, ie ghost him, because I think that’s childish and this way gives proper closure.

PinkyFlamingo · 13/07/2026 19:04

Good for you OP

SqueakyFromme · 13/07/2026 19:06

He should have booked somewhere nice for a birthday meal. Sorry OP hes just another waste of time. Happy Birthday 🎂

Nousernameideaaga · 13/07/2026 19:08

He either doesn’t care in which case get rid

or he’s deliberately not wishing you happy birthday to provoke a reaction in which case get rid

so to sum up - get rid

The pickings I'm afraid are almost nonexistent it's nothing to do with you, never think that

Tben · 13/07/2026 19:10

I hate the cliche, but he’s just not that into you. Look at his behaviour not his words. Can’t be arsed until you say something and then chucks you breadcrumbs. Just let it wither on the vine.

Minasama · 13/07/2026 19:11

I would say “It’s my birthday, do you want to join me for a drink to celebrate?”

Then again, I still have the thoughtful present my husband gave me on my birthday a few weeks after we started going out. Maybe it’s a good test that if he was seriously interested, he would have remember your birthday and marked it somehow.

Sorry I forgot to press send on my original reply!

It’s not your fault, these things happen.

It’s just when we’re older we done feel like there’s as much time to play the field.

Absolutely she should not do this it smacks of desperation

Goodadvice1980 · 13/07/2026 19:23

Dump, delete, move on.

He clearly isn’t interested in making any effort.

Not it dosent it's just you trying to have the last word. Just leave it now OP. No need to message you forgot my birthday he knows he isn't interested. Move on.

Mydahliasareshit · 13/07/2026 19:31

Prepare yourself for the morning 'forgot your birthday, how shameful, must make it up to you sometime' rubbish.
He's prepping you to expect nothing from him, and see how much you'll take.
P.S. 'Sometime' never comes.

Elieza · 13/07/2026 19:58

block him
otherwise youre keeping the door open for him to make up some spineless excuse and reel you back in.

if he’s been in hospital i’d forgive him but i suspect hes just not that into you and had other people on his mind instead and forgot about you.

block and move on.

maxslice · 13/07/2026 20:31

Dump him. He’s not a even doing the bare minimum,

Sarah24x · 13/07/2026 20:39

Thanks again all for the replies! My friends tagged me in birthday stories so I reposted them on my instagram (sound about 12 I know 😂).

He viewed it straight away, left it an hour then messaged just before “I can’t believe I forgot your birthday!” with the stupid monkey face emoji 😒

I won’t be replying!

Oooh just what @mydahliasareshit predicted

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 13/07/2026 20:52

So he still hasn’t actually said “happy birthday”?

Voneska · 13/07/2026 20:52

Well, since you told him when your birthday is: Hes treated it like a Perfect Opportunity to let you know who's BOSS. Don't forget that he already cancelled a Last minute one on you so hes already got TWO insults under his belt. Hes feeling powerful after this. Just ignore him. If you reach out then his ego will explode in his head and he will get worse. Don't do what I did when in the same scenario and the guy in question started chasing after someone I knew and then disappeared from the planet. It's going to get worse with these ' KERRS......
