Guy I’m dating didn’t wish me happy birthday.

Hoping for some insight whether I’m being petty or not.

Been dating a guy around 2 months. Consistent dates and seems to be going well. Says he sees a future ect.

For the last 2 weeks, I had noticed he has been taking much longer to reply and cancelled a date planned by himself at the very last minute to hang out with friends instead. This really ticked me off as I’d arranged babysitting.

I ended up sending a message that it didn’t seem to be working and all the best, hope he finds what he’s looking for.

He was extremely apologetic and has been making more of an effort since. Saying he’s been very busy with work but now that isn’t an excuse and really wants to continue working things.

Today is my birthday and haven’t even received a happy birthday text. He knows it’s my birthday as he asked when it was a few weeks ago and commented it was the day before his mams. 🙃

What would you do in this situation? Any advice appreciated!

It shouldn't be this hard so early on. Move on and find someone who will cherish you and be delighted to celebrate your birthday.

Naurrr · 13/07/2026 15:39

Delete his number, you've known him a matter of hours and he's shown you twice he's not interested.

LeaderBee · 13/07/2026 15:40

Sounds like a non starter, but who cancels a date to hang out with their mates instead? I'd be dead excited to go on a date.

shoesandshipsandsealingwax · 13/07/2026 15:41

Delete his number and forget about him.

Happyjoe · 13/07/2026 15:41

He's not making an effort, it will get worse! Find someone who does care. Sorry OP.

Cosyblankets · 13/07/2026 15:41

I couldn't be a@@@d with that
This is best behaviour time

Happyjoe · 13/07/2026 15:42

Oh, and I would re-send the same message you sent before about it not working.

Loulou4022 · 13/07/2026 15:43

He sounds a dick! I’d maybe stop being the first to message and see if he does but sounds like onwards and upwards without him to me!

Jk987 · 13/07/2026 15:46

Text him ‘hi, you forgot my birthday, I don’t think this is working’.

CandidRaven · 13/07/2026 15:47

Not worth the hassle I'd say, if he's like this early on what would he be like after you've been together a while? Doesn't exactly sound like a promising relationship to me

BauhausOfEliott · 13/07/2026 15:48

He's not the man for you. Just dump him. Honestly, you've only been seeing him five minutes; it's way too early for this kind of angst and you can do much better.

MouldEight · 13/07/2026 15:51

He actually told you he was cancelling so he could see his friends?

Whatbloodysummer · 13/07/2026 15:53

Cancelling your planned date, knowing you'd have to have arranged a babysitter, to hang out with his mates, is just showing you how far down his 'priorities' you are.

You're not worth even turning up to a date for ffs! He's only trying a little now because he doesn't want to have to put in another 2 months of effort for someone new to reach the same dating 'point' he's at with you now?

He's a waste of space, bin him asap and raise your standards.

When a man wants to see you, he will, and if he's slow returning messages , then he's simply not that fussed about you...

inkgirl · 13/07/2026 15:53

If he was that interested he would have said happy birthday and wouldn't have cancelled a date to hang with friends, sorry but by the sounds of things he's just not that interested

TheClocksFast · 13/07/2026 15:57

Just remember this is him on his ‘best’ behaviour. Just get rid because he really can’t be arsed.

Bufftailed · 13/07/2026 15:58

He’s not trying. You know they say judge on actions

Cantbelieveit888 · 13/07/2026 16:07

If he makes this much effort 2 months in....you can only imagine what he's going to be like in another 2 months.....
Quit, whilst i'm hoping you haven't fallen in love yet.
This period is supposed to fun and giddy beyond doubt.....if he's already making you doubt what's going on...................BIN BIN BIN

Batshitdoesntfallfarfromthetree · 13/07/2026 16:12

Whatever you do now shows him what you're willing to accept. Only expect more of the same if you carry on with him. A lot of guys don't want to do the dumping and will string you along until you do it. Do it now and save yourself a job later on.

midJulytarget · 13/07/2026 16:14

I'm sorry OP.

He's either a- not that into you, or b- not into the idea of a relationship, or c- both.

In any case, don't let it get to you. Good that you found out early. Wish you best of luck for the next one.

Harrietsaunt · 13/07/2026 16:15

Block him. Next!

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 13/07/2026 16:19

Meh sounds like he’s throwing you a few extra breadcrumbs to keep you on the hook but isn’t interested enough to put in real effort.

I wouldn’t message him anything now and would just not reply if he gets in touch.

summitfever · 13/07/2026 16:19

Jesus op if you accept this now you’re in for a rough ride. I’m not saying he should spend a fortune and lavish you with gifts but a happy birthday text is the bare minimum. You’ve not even had that. This guy likes sex, not relationship material AT ALL

summitfever · 13/07/2026 16:20

Believe what they show you not what they say. Not a word.
