Bathroom request at bedtime

thecrazyone111 · 11/07/2026 22:26

My partner goes to the toilet at night just before our daughter goes to brush her teeth. My daughter says there’s a smell in the loo so she wants a few minutes before going to brush her teeth. I’ve request my partner to use the second loo which is literally 5 meters away so our daughters bedtime routine will go smoother. My partner says this request is excessive. Who is being unreasonable?

I think your DD needs to be less of a princess and just get on with it.

FlyingWithBabyLongHaul · 11/07/2026 22:29

You are not being unreasonable. I can't believe a Dad wouldn't do one simple, easy ask to make his daughter's daily routine a little easier / more pleasant. Selfish. Is he a deadbeat dad in other respects, or is it just this one thing?

If he won't do this, is it an option for you daughter to brush her teeth in the other bathroom?

Bubbleybees · 11/07/2026 22:31

I'm with your daughter. When we only had one bathroom there wasn't any choice, but have moved to a house with multiple thrones and now the best practice is you don't make smells in the one with the toothbrushes. Not always possible, but more often than not.

mindutopia · 11/07/2026 22:31

Perfectly reasonable request, I think. I wouldn’t go have a shit in the middle of my kids (or Dh!) getting ready for bed. It’s a bit rude if there is another perfectly available loo. Is your partner her dad or not?

ZanyPoet · 11/07/2026 22:32

what kind of pig use the loo in a bathroom when there's a separate one?

Revolting. Some people are just grim, your poor daughter.

no one can have such low standards in real life, can they?

gotmyselfintoapickle · 11/07/2026 22:44

Does he have a reason to not want to use the other toilet?

Really?

Blessedbethefruitloopss · 11/07/2026 23:01

So he’s got the choice of another loo, or waiting until she’s brushed her teeth, and refusing? Decent Dad.

Dollymylove · 11/07/2026 23:02

First world problems.
However did we manage back in the days of the one bog house!!

Grim is a polite way to put it, I don't want to be banned, but yes, really grim.

how old are you? 😂

Gardenisablooming · 11/07/2026 23:06

Dd can brush her teeth in the other loo or the kitchen..

CypressGrove · 11/07/2026 23:06

What possible reason does he have for not using the other loo?

Pinkelephant66 · 11/07/2026 23:07

He goes for a shit, every night, just before she brushes her teeth? Bizarre

Or do it before Dad takes a dump 🤔

GalaDinner · 11/07/2026 23:09

He's literally *ing on her territory.

Support your daughter.

Surely the daughter has the same choice? Use a different loo or brush her teeth 5 minutes earlier?

I thought that! Really odd behaviour.

And what kind of parent wouldn’t try to make their child’s bedtime smoother if they can?

Pinkflamingo10 · 11/07/2026 23:12

Your partner is gross

It sounds like the daughter is quite young ('bedtime routine' etc) so probably has little control over her dinner and bedtime routine timings or which bathroom her toothbrush etc are kept in. Surely it makes more sense for the adult to just use the other available loo rather than the one his daughter is shortly going to brush her teeth in.

He goes to the toilet, you’re assuming he has a shit. Just because there’s a smell doesn’t mean he had a shit, you can often smell when someone has had a wee.

Decacaffeinatednow · 11/07/2026 23:52

Is he her father? Or a new man?

It’s disgusting. My partner does this too. Nearly everyday right before she does her teeth without fail. Absolutely unnecessary and thoughtless. Especially when there is another bathroom!!

What? Who wants to brush their teeth and breath in someone’s toilet ‘fumes’ ?
