Dentist appointment at 3pm and cars playing up.
It will be 29 degrees at 3 and it’s an hours walk each way with a toddler in push chair and two primary school children.
Reschedule or walk?

Reschedule

Drivingmissrangey · 11/07/2026 12:42

It will take a lot longer than an hour with the kids in tow!

Ted27 · 11/07/2026 12:43

Get a taxi
I dont drive and walk everywhere I can but even I wouldn't do this on a ' normal' day, let alone in this heat with young children

Loulou4022 · 11/07/2026 12:44

I’d reschedule unless it’s an emergency appointment

VoteForCountBinface · 11/07/2026 12:44

Walk. Allow plenty of time.

I walk a lot and would allow 20 minutes (expecting it to take 15 mins) but you'll be pushing a toddler and have two children, so I'd allow an hour.

She says it an hour, where is 20 mins from?

No way would I be doing that walk in today's heat but dentist appointments are so difficult to get I'd be thinking of some other way to get there

I assume no partner or family to help?

Given that you have no idea of the distance, what are you basing this on?

VoteForCountBinface · 11/07/2026 12:55

I think I was confused by a pp. I'd walk it but allow plenty of time.

It’s a child’s check up.
Partner is at work and I’d rather reschedule than ask him to leave work but I could potentially walk but it is hot and toddler is fair.

I’d walk but allow plenty of time. However it depends on your tolerance to the heat and the route. If it is on busy main roads with little shade, I’d probably get a taxi or bus.

IStillHearTheWaves · 11/07/2026 13:00

Just reschedule.or walk (but factor in an extra 20 mins as suggested by PP) and get a taxi back.

frecklejuice · 11/07/2026 13:02

I’d reschedule, I wouldn’t want to walk an hour in this heat and definitely wouldn’t expect two primary age children to.

hahabahbag · 11/07/2026 13:02

If you can reschedule without cost I probably would but is there a bus option?

backformoreofthesame · 11/07/2026 13:04

is a taxi out of the question ? Or ask a friend to mind the kids ?

likelysuspect · 11/07/2026 13:05

Taxi, bus?

And when you say an hours walk do you mean with the kids or that a normal fit adult would take an hour? 3 miles is one hour for an adult.

likelysuspect · 11/07/2026 13:05

Its not hot here by the way, not sure where you are OP

It doesnt matter if it's not hot where you are. Op clearly states that it's hot where she is. If it's relevant it's hot where i am too.

It doesn’t matter where you are, it’s 29 degrees where the op is!

Mt563 · 11/07/2026 13:16

2 hours walking in peak heat is far too much for anyone, let alone kids. And that's before considering they'll likely be even slower in this heat.

Taxi or reschedule.

user293948849167 · 11/07/2026 13:16

I was going to say walk until you said you had to take two children- reschedule or get a taxi

Because the forecast is saying something completely different to what its actuallly like outside and very misleading, so I was helpfully implying that perhaps it wont be 29 later. Im in the SE

MyThreeWords · 11/07/2026 13:20

There's a risk of it being too much for the children, unless they are regularly walking a lot in the heat. Is it a fun route or just schlepping along pavements?
