Dentist appointment at 3pm and cars playing up.
It will be 29 degrees at 3 and it’s an hours walk each way with a toddler in push chair and two primary school children.
Reschedule or walk?

Can't you get a taxi?

Because the forecast is saying something completely different to what its actuallly like outside and very misleading, so I was helpfully implying that perhaps it wont be 29 later. Im in the SE

How do you know what the forecast is saying where OP lives?

Thatcannotberight · 11/07/2026 13:27

Reschedule. It's nearly 31°c and supposed to get hotter in my bit of SW and it's not even the hottest bit. I wouldn't make my children walk in that.

UrbanSoul · 11/07/2026 13:27

Can you get a bus? Or walk there and get an uber home?

I think I'd reschedule though tbh.

I think we can assume that the OP knows how hot it is right now and therefore how hot it’s likely to be in a few hours.

thejelliclecats · 11/07/2026 13:13

What relevance is it that it's not hot where you are?

Do you really have to ask? Heat exhaustion? This weather saps all my energy. No one with any sense is going to walk for an hour in this heat!

Hayley1256 · 11/07/2026 13:28

Could you get a taxi?

Mt563 · 11/07/2026 13:29

I've just walked half a mile with my toddler. It usually takes 15-20 minutes. It took over 35 minutes and was miserable for us both.

PrincessofWills · 11/07/2026 13:29

Uber

The OP doesn't live in the SE so what the temperature is where you are is of no relevance.

I, too am in the SW OP and honestly, I'd get a taxi or reschedule. The chances are you DC will be a hot, sweaty, miserable mess by the time you get there and then there is the issue of getting back.

BIossomtoes · 11/07/2026 13:30

Taxi. I took one for a 20 minute walk at midday yesterday. I normally walk everywhere.

Im just saying that the forecast where I am is saying its much hotter than it actually is, its quite a chilly breeze here thats all, no need to be so picky and hostile.

Christ alive! I was just giving an example that the FORECAST which OP is relying on is perhaps accurate, perhaps not accurate by giving information about MY circumstances

JLou08 · 11/07/2026 13:33

I'd get a taxi or bus there and walk back. It will be cooler after 3 than it will be at 2 when you need to set off and you won't have the need to be rushing.

I'm just baffled as to why you think you know more about the weather where OP lives than she does 😂

But that wasn't the question. The person you quoted was asking someone why they mentioned that, where they (the person quoted it isn't hot since that has no relevance to the OP (since the OP isn't likely to be walking where the person quoted lives).

But you didn't actually say anything like that. Just that it wasn't hot where you live. Not that it was cooler than the forecast, just that it isn't hot. You didn't mention the FORECAST at all.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 11/07/2026 14:33

in this heat and with kids in tow I’d reschedule

mondaytosunday · 11/07/2026 14:33

Ok for you but not the kids frankly. Fine on a cooler day.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 11/07/2026 14:35

With 2 primary school kids definitely reschedule. Maybe with toddler if sleeping and you could do cafe pit stops in between then I’d chance it (in shade if possible) and allow extra time for walking. Plus hat. Ice cream on way.

Reschedule or walk?

This is standard (or low) summer temperature for most of Europe, it’s really not a reason to cancel appointments.

I presume the children have suncream, sunhats, a shade for the pushchair?

Walking will be fine if you take proper precautions and water with you. Or you can book taxis. It would be silly to cancel just because it’s sunny and warm.

GettingFestiveNow · 11/07/2026 14:40

What's the fee for short-notice cancellations? Taxi might well be cheaper, as well as showing consideration for the dentist.
