Going away for school holidays & nobody to do the bins?

We are taking DC away for a significant amount of time during the 6 weeks holidays and will have nobody to do the bins.

Have asked my parents as they live 25 minutes away but have said it's too far and they also workZ

Siblings/cousins also work and have their own kids to look after and would be unfair as again live 25 minutes away in the same town as parents.

Now, I have never had an argument or falling out with neighbours.

But there is tension due to the varying issues around this estate and I don't speak to my NDN on the right ( I would do her bins at times but she has stopped saying hello/speaking to everyone which suits me fine as she makes me feel uncomfortable).

I do exchange small talk/ hello with the other and get on OK but form feel comfortable asking her.

We genuinely don't know what to do.
Anybody been in a similar situation?

The only solution would be to leave the bins until we get back?

Put the bins out before you go, ask the neighbour you do say hello to. Seriously no one is going to mind wheeling a bin back up the driveway, it will take all of 2 minutes.

Without meaning to be rude, we’ve not had our recycling collected in over a year and a half thanks to a well publicised dispute. Actual waste collections also didn’t occur for months on end. You’ll be fine :)

Don’t you have any friends nearby that can help out? It would only take a couple of minutes.

if it’s general waste or recycling it can just wait until you get back.

Have we lost the ability to problem solve nowadays?! Just take everything to your local tip/recycling centre the day before you leave for your trip.

It will only be full with what you put in. Just take everything to the tip between now and then to keep it empty when you go

Double bag your rubbish and take it to the tip before you go. If no one is home then no more rubbish will be made.

So many solutions to this! You have no mates who would sort it for you either???

Put it in your
parents bins.

Go to the tip or pay someone to empty the bins before you go.

Just visit the tip! Take general rubbish and any cardboard and both will the nearly empty.
Just to point out - most household insurance is invalidated if no one is in the property for over 30 days.

Honestly, just ask your neighbour who you say hi to. Or the one the other side of her. Or even the neighbour you don’t get on with… putting out your neighbour’s bins is SUCH a small job, most people wouldn’t mind at all, even for someone they don’t know very well. And asking that sort of favour is the sort of thing that builds stronger relations. If you ask them, they’ll probably think “oh great, that means we can ask gardenhenn to do ours next time we go away”. It’s à perfectly reasonable and normal neighbourly request. And the worst they can say is no, but there’s no harm in asking.

if not, you’ll just have to leave them unemptied and then when you get home, take any new rubbish generated to the tip for a couple of weeks. But do ask your neighbours.

Our neighbours would do ours no question, but both we (and them) just leave the relevant bins out at the end of our drives if we're due to be away? Surely you just put them out before you go and leave them ready?

How old are you OP? I find stuff like this crazy and wonder which generation having common sense and resilience stopped! This is the sort of stuff my adult daughter would say / ask and it’s flabbergasting to me. Basically, you have to bag up your rubbish before you go and take it to a recycling centre, pay someone locally to do that for you if you are unable to do so, leave the bins out for 5 weeks or accept that they won’t get emptied for 5 weeks. They are your choices:

Recycling can wait an extra week, anything else you can take to the tip or just leave your bin out before you go

But I guess it's the retrieval of the bin that is the problem.
Or even the putting it out if it's longer than the night before collection.
Bins are not returned from whence they came.
They are randomly left blocking the way.
households are warned that they can be fined for leaving bins out.
But generally I agree. Just ask a neighbour.

That's an offence under the Environmental Protection Act.
You can be fined for doing that.
Enforcement is now often undertaken by private contractors who are quite hot on fines.

It's regarded as fly tipping.
Even with the permission of the receiving bin holder.
The only place you can legitimately move household rubbish to is a civic amenity site.
