Going away for school holidays & nobody to do the bins?

gardenhenn · Yesterday 12:27

We are taking DC away for a significant amount of time during the 6 weeks holidays and will have nobody to do the bins.

Have asked my parents as they live 25 minutes away but have said it's too far and they also workZ

Siblings/cousins also work and have their own kids to look after and would be unfair as again live 25 minutes away in the same town as parents.

Now, I have never had an argument or falling out with neighbours.

But there is tension due to the varying issues around this estate and I don't speak to my NDN on the right ( I would do her bins at times but she has stopped saying hello/speaking to everyone which suits me fine as she makes me feel uncomfortable).

I do exchange small talk/ hello with the other and get on OK but form feel comfortable asking her.

We genuinely don't know what to do.
Anybody been in a similar situation?

The only solution would be to leave the bins until we get back?

We forget to put our bin out all the time, so our black bin has had to wait 4 weeks multiple times. Half a bin collected when you get back won’t be the end of the world

tourdefrance · Yesterday 17:08

Ask the neighbour you do small talk with. Its very sad in my opinion that people are suggesting paying a teenager / asking online rather than just talking to the person who lives next door. Most people are perfectly happy to do a favour when asked.
Probably not a great idea to tell more people than necessary that you will be away for weeks either.

What kind of places do people live in where you can't ask a neighbour to put the bin out once in a blue moon? Sounds ridiculously complicated to do this or that or th'other to get the bin out. Honestly. A quick text and surely a decent neighbour would have no issue. Just leave bin at the front, and neighbour just pulls it out to the pavement, and back up again. It's not like they have to go down the mines for you.

If, on the other hand that just will not work, do as others say, there's plenty of advice from others who may not have willing neighbours either!

Its bizzare when we first moved house we had only been there a week when we was going away and hadn't spoke to anyone yet so just knocked on next door and introduced myself and asked of course it was no problem. Its just one of them things it takes seconds i can't imagine anyone living next door saying no to this.

I would ask the neighbour to roll the bin out and return it once emptied.
I'm sure they would do that. It wouldn't take to much effort. I would return the favour or a favour in return.

Regarding taking recycling to the tip - our doorstep collection is ‘mixed dry recycling’ but the tip bins are separate for each type of recycling so that isn’t a solution for recycling

palron · Yesterday 18:17

At this stage the only solution is to ask Count Binface. He will know what to do.

Ineffable23 · Yesterday 18:19

I would just ask your neighbour. It's such a minimal request - i don't mind at all even though I am not close to my neighbours.

You could sort it in to categories. It’s dry it’s not going to be hard.

I want your life.
if you have so little to worry you that you have taken time out to post about this.

ffs. Use your initiative. Use your brain.

THINK ABOUT SOLUTIONS

we could never be friends. Honestly one of the most pathetic posts I’ve seen in a long time e.

Yes this , bloody hell.

Do you have a local Facebook group or WhatsApp group. Maybe ask if local teenager would be interested in sorting your bins for a small fee

I would be extremely cautious about advertising on a piblic page that you are away for a length of time. Even leaving the bin on curb is an advert that noone is home.

shellster80 · Yesterday 19:18

Just leave the bin out before you go surely? Then it will be emptied while you’re away? If there’s 2 collections leave both bins?

WombatStewForTea · Yesterday 19:21

You can pay for private bin collections. I'd arrange to have the general waste bin collected just before you go so it's empty. Then leave the recycling. If the recycling gets full before the next collection then I'd do a tip/supermarket recycling trip

UncharteredWaters · Yesterday 19:22

There are companies who will
come empty it. We had one when we forgot to leave it out once and didn’t want it sitting for a month as lots of general waste and tip isn’t handy.

Leave the bin out before you go

This

Ohwhydidntijustkeepmymouthshut · Yesterday 19:23

Options
you could ask a neighbour, offer the same in return. They get to not look at your bins for for 3 weeks until you get back.
you could put it in your local FB community group and offer to pay someone to do it. Obviously don’t put the dates on the post, only give details once you have found someone trustworthy.
you can put your bin out before you go then book your bin in to get cleaned. They usually follow the binmen round so will put it away for you.

Morrisdancer24 · Yesterday 19:25

Put them out before you go.

Go on holiday, leave the bins out when you go? Honestly whats the worst that can happen

I don't speak to my NDNs as they are pric*s so I wouldn't do them a favour like this. No way. They have caused hell by keeping us awake at weekends til 2am making too much noise affecting our sleep. They're the last people I would help! But the rest of my street no problem🙌

Cookie105 · Yesterday 19:29

How is this an issue 😆🤣

gardenhenn · Yesterday 12:30

The general waste bin was just collected so by the time we go in a few weeks it will be half full.

Won't be back until end August.

Recycling can wait. Take the other rubbish down the tip as a few people have now suggested.

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · Yesterday 19:32

Can’t you put it out when you go?

Dontcallmescarface · Yesterday 19:38

It amazes me that people can hold down a job yet can't figure out the simplest solution to a non-problem. Either leave the bins where they are, take them to the tip/recycling before you go, ask a neighbour. What in the world is more simple than any 1 of those 3 options?
