The controversy may well have affected the US team's performance last night. Him sitting out might have made the rest of them perform better (he didn't exactly have a good match).

It's amazing that Blatter now looks like the one with integrity by comparison. What a topsy-turvy world we live in.

The player was born to British-Nigerian parents who were on holiday in the US at seven months and weren't allowed to fly back by the airline. It was definitely a red card but even if it hadn’t been, bending the rules to suit the host nation is disgusting. I do feel sorry for Balogun though, and agree he has been a pawn in all this. The real problem is the corruption at the top levels.

Belgium have done Trump and Infantino a favour. If the US had won, there would have been a groundswell against FIFA which might have led to some change. The Belgian win means we can all forget about it. Which we shouldn’t.
