To REALLY want Belgium to beat the USA.
(And hope that the crowd boo Balogun whenever his foot hits the ball)

@McSpoot

I accept that my original post could have been worded better!

Then I fully agree with your thoughts (not this one - the original one).

No surprise that Trump would try and, yes, Fifa are (also) idiots for agreeing.

And Belgium winning handsomely was the best outcome (though I do feel bad for the US players).

Never ever thought I would say this but: “Well done Belgium”!

Thank fuck for that.

Saw this on FB

I did too and it made me chuckle (though I think DR Congo may actually be more grey.)

Had anyone seen that this has halterneck before? Wait for image to upload...

FGS, I'm glad both Portugal and USA went out. Although Bernardo Silva's header at the very last second that just missed blew me away.

Izzyink · 07/07/2026 12:24

Anyone selling a good defender? I hear the USA are looking 4-1

Hadn’t known Portugal was playing. I am not a fan of Spain equally not a fan of Ronaldo. On balance I am happier Ronaldo is out.

I've only just seen my typos 🤣

But yes, ffs.

Might not be his call but why shouldn't he play? He's a pawn here. Not the players fault.
I highly doubt any other player would sit out in this situation.

The controversy may well have affected the US team's performance last night. Him sitting out might have made the rest of them perform better (he didn't exactly have a good match).

Totally, Portugal out too so no more of the sneering mug of Ronaldo who is also there because of the corrupt FIFA. I was maybe naive but once they got rid of Blatter I thought it would improve but it seems worse. Must like the brown envelopes.

It's amazing that Blatter now looks like the one with integrity by comparison. What a topsy-turvy world we live in.

Blatter is probably missing the brown envelopes. Apparently the red carded player is one of the people Trump wants to deport because of his citizenship status, don't reckon much for his chances now!
I do hope that the IOC are taking note and have the cojones to keep Trump in his box in 2028 but I won't hold my breath.

The player was born to British-Nigerian parents who were on holiday in the US at seven months and weren't allowed to fly back by the airline. Once the baby was old enough to fly, he returned to the UK and grew up to play in the English Premier League. So he is exactly what Trump had in his crosshairs - a birthright citizen who was born to parents who weren't legally resident in the US at the time.

Only reason that he even plays for the US is that he's not good enough for the England team...

Love this from the Belgian football twitter account!

It was definitely a red card but even if it hadn’t been, bending the rules to suit the host nation is disgusting. I do feel sorry for Balogun though, and agree he has been a pawn in all this. The real problem is the corruption at the top levels.

Belgium have done Trump and Infantino a favour. If the US had won, there would have been a groundswell against FIFA which might have led to some change. The Belgian win means we can all forget about it. Which we shouldn’t.
