To REALLY want Belgium to beat the USA.
(And hope that the crowd boo Balogun whenever his foot hits the ball)

Did anyone see Balogon's foul that led to the red card? Was it warranted? I have no doubt it was, but the spin is unreal about him being hard done by. I didn't see it myself. The ref is probably in hiding.

God I so want Belgium to win.

There's not a team in all the lands, both domestic & International, who haven't fallen foul of a poor reffing decision or 10.

The USA are not special and need to take the hits like everyone else.

NotTerfNorCis · 06/07/2026 19:19

Nothing against Balogun, everything against Trump and America. Go Belgium!

It doesn’t matter if it’s warranted. Every decision in football is subjective. The refs decision is final and red cards don’t get overturned. Those are the rules.

BloodandGlitter · 06/07/2026 19:20

If USA lose this match, Trump is going to have a meltdown and refuse to host the other matches.

dudsville · 06/07/2026 19:22

I also feel bad for the rest of the usa team. That player should feel embarrassed, fifa should apologise. Belgium must win, and a side benefit is the US team can be done with this fiasco.

Pretty much the entire world outside of the US I would imagine.
still, if US win - they’re cheats and if the US lose they’re cheats who still couldn't win.
pathetic.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 06/07/2026 19:24

It's not the team's fault but fuck yeah, I hope Belgium kick their butts out of the tournament.

But then the orange toddler will probably want them reinstated.

Yes, I know that, I was merely asking if anyone had actually seen it happen. I agree that the ref's decision is final. Shame on Infantino, but FIFA and Trump are laws unto themselves. Follow the money I suppose.

Go Belgium!

InSlovakiaTheCapitalOfCourseIsBratislava · 06/07/2026 19:26

I think the USA needs to get knocked out as quickly as possible
imagine the geopolitical fall out if it gets to the final…,The opposing team would have to throw the match else punitive tariffs probably don’t even to begin to describe the after effects

Agree - whether or not a the card was warranted ( it was) is absolutely irrelevant. The decision was made and checked by officials during the match and the team who had a card awarded against them doesn’t get to decide whether or not they should have got a card.

where does it end? If teams or their managers or their fucking PM or President can wade in and get the consequences changed or ‘suspended’ in the case.

FIFA, Trump and the US men’s team are an absolutely disgrace.

JHound · 06/07/2026 19:27

Due to DT and FiFA corruption - YES!

Although it’s funny watching Trump going to bat for Balogun given the only reason he can even play for the USA is the birthright citizenship DT has been trying hard to overturn.

Yes, I think it was a red card. Balogun scraped his studs down the back of the player’s leg and stepped on his ankle. I can’t believe it has been overturned. I hope Belgium smash them.

If USA lose this match, Trump is going to have a meltdown and refuse to host the other matches.

Then let’s relocate them, CAnada and Mexico can host the remaining matches.

Overturning it, at least, would have been better than what they have done – suspending it. By saying it still stands, yet he can still play, is much worse.

Why on earth would you be unreasonable? Belgium is a European team and we are European. You’d be much more unreasonable to support the US surely?!

Lots of European nations don’t necessarily support European teams. I cannot imagine English supporters backing France or vice versa. Or Ireland backing England etc.

JohnnieFedora · 06/07/2026 19:30

Everybody does.

I should think the dude will get hugely booed

They would if it was against USA in these circumstances.

Didimum · 06/07/2026 19:31

I have Belgium in my work sweepstakes, so it’s an even easier call.

BUT, the red card has been suspended, not overturned, which is a much poorer decision.

PetulaGordeno · 06/07/2026 19:33

‘If USA lose it will be the worst travesty of all time.
The worst. Even worse than Pearl Harbour.
Nothing worse than this has happened in the world to this greatest sporting nation of the United States of America. Our hydration breaks are the envy of the globe.
We are the greatest host on earth, we’ve let in people we would usually keep at the borders.
I am so pissed I may cancel the final and if that left wing lunatic is in Number 10 and England are in it I may just go and bomb Iran again.
Anyway, Melania, what’s the offside rule again?’ 🇺🇸 🍊

Boolabus · 06/07/2026 19:33

It's a disgrace. So now we're meant to accept political interference in sporting competitions? What's the point in any of it if that's the case. I agree with UEFA, FIFA have crossed a massive red line of which there's no going back from. FIFAs rules are clear on this:

The Third-Party Non-Interference Principle

FIFA’s statutes are built on the idea that football must be governed by football people, not politicians. Article 2(2) states that “government interference of any kind in the electoral process or composition of the elective body (general assembly or congress) of the association is not permitted” and that “government rules on elections shall not apply to the elected internal bodies of the association”. Article 15(c) goes further, requiring that member associations’ statutes “shall in particular contain, at a minimum, make provisions relating to the independence of the member association and avoidance of any form of political interference”.

Whammyammy · 06/07/2026 19:39

All respect gone for Fifa.

SnowyPetals · 06/07/2026 19:47

I knew it would be impossible for the world cup to pass without the orange arsehole inserting himself and causing upset. He just cannot accept that some things are beyond his remit.

But will Infantino agree to overturn the result on Trump’s request?….

USA through….😂

Trump/Infantino making a mockery of sport.

If it's looking bad for the US, ICE will just detain the Belgian team for the third quarter (because apparently football is now in quarters to satisfy US advertisers...)

I'd support Canada/Australia/New Zealand over a (non-UK/Ireland) European country. I'd also support an underdog on the basis that they need all of the help that they can get.

I actually voted YABU. Booing a player for something out of his control is bad sportsmanship. He didn't personally get the call overturned and if he is called on to play off course he would (as would any other player).
