Being told that as a size 18 I can’t wear certain clothes

I do appreciate that when posting canvassing for opinions on outfits etc., you will get all sorts of responses.

But I have been told a few times now that as a size 18, I should cover up and not expose too much skin, basically purely because of my size.

AIBU to think this isn’t okay? I have as much a right to get my shoulders out as any other size!

I think she is meaning "she need not cover up, she is gorgeous." Because people equated overweight with the need to cloak it out of sight.

But the fundamental issue here is that the OP did not ask for comment on size, yet posters felt it was perfectly appropriate to offer the suggestion of hiding her body away BECAUSE OF size. Not because a halterneck was thought to be unacceptable for the occasion, but because of her dress size.

Because the same person who said that said that she looked like a tank!

Well you asked for people’s suggestions/opinions and you got them, so I really don’t see your problem.

I’m size 18 and I don’t ask for opinions from anyone about clothing. I would be the same if I was a size 10. I don’t care what other people think

Well, I'm bigger than a size 18, and I wear what I want. I'm sure there are people who don't think I should, but its my body and I don't care. Unsolicited opinions are not welcome.
Having said that, if I ASK people's opinions, then I'm opening myself up to those. Even the ones I don't like.

Due to having bigger boobs, there's certain things I don't like wearing and don't find comfortable (and if you asked my opinion on whether it's comfy for a D plus to run with no HI bra, I'd tell you). But I would never tell anyone else what to wear without a reason like this, the same as if you had a foot problem and asked me about heels.

The dress does make her look very blocky/square though. It’s a bad fitting dress on an overweight woman with big boobs, waist and bum, which can give that effect.

Firstly wear what you want but I also wouldn't take a lot of notice of what people on the Internet say who have never seen your bodyshape as one size 18 won't look like another size 18. Im a 16 and my arms and legs aren't fat at all all my weight is on my stomach and breasts.

OP, did you forget that you posted a photo of yourself upthread? It’s very clear that you’ve been edited to look significantly smaller (your arms especially) in the ChatGPT image. Look I don’t care what you choose to wear or what you look like but you’re being straight up dishonest.

Hopefully OP will have your attitude soon, because to ask for opinions and then complain just comes over as ridiculous and attention seeking behaviour.

I'm not sure why you are attacking the op over a word use, when it is clear she is not the one with negative weight judgments.

She never asked for comment on nor mentioned her weight until it became topical due to available sizing, and she was clearly inspired by the model to consider that dress.

I know you think you are being clever in turning this all back on her, but her comfort and acceptance around weight is not really in issue.
