Being told that as a size 18 I can’t wear certain clothes

I do appreciate that when posting canvassing for opinions on outfits etc., you will get all sorts of responses.

But I have been told a few times now that as a size 18, I should cover up and not expose too much skin, basically purely because of my size.

AIBU to think this isn’t okay? I have as much a right to get my shoulders out as any other size!

I think the OP knows how to milk two threads about buying a dress for a bloody BBQ lol.

😂

Jellybunny98 · 06/07/2026 14:05

I don’t think there should be, or is, any rules about a certain size wearing certain clothes.

Do certain styles look better on certain bodies? Yes, obviously. Does that mean anybody who doesn’t have that body shouldn’t wear those styles? No.

OP, did you forget that you posted a photo of yourself upthread? It’s very clear that you’ve been edited to look significantly smaller (your arms especially) in the ChatGPT image. Look I don’t care what you choose to wear or what you look like but you’re being straight up dishonest.

What mission are you on? To try to make her feel shit about herself?

Yes there was a thread commenting on the number of ‘certain threads’ on here lately and I think this is another. Why do they do it?

SurferRona · 06/07/2026 14:06

Anyone with views like that can get to fuck imo.

I mean, look at Paloma E, she’s disgusting isn’t she? In her horrible size 16/18 ness. 🙄🙄😴. Awful. And with her curved tummy and shoulders on show. Nothing remotely attractive about her, no way she’d ever make a living as a… I dunno- a model?

Wear what you like OP. Wear whatever makes you feel good. Get your shoulders or any other body part out which pleases you 💪

Come on though. Op first tells is that an obviously overweight model isn’t overweight. Then posts an AI photo of herself in a dress that has changed her body. I’m not sure any of this can be real. 😂😂😂

BatchCookBabe · 06/07/2026 14:07

Wait, in those pics you posted @isaidmaybeyoure are any of those women you? (I am assuming white dress with black polka dots? Is that you?)

If so, why are some people saying that the MODEL is clearly overweight (the woman in the brown dress?) She isn't remotely overweight.

The woman in the white and black polka dot dress (the OP?) is - a bit - but she looks fine though. The dress looks nice. Lovely and cool. 😎

I'm not sure why you are attacking the op over a word use, when it is clear she is not the one with negative weight judgments.

She never asked for comment on nor mentioned her weight until it became topical due to available sizing, and she was clearly inspired by the model to consider that dress.

I know you think you are being clever in turning this all back on her, but her comfort and acceptance around weight is not really in issue.

She has repeatedly implied a woman cannot be overweight and gorgeous.

Repeatedly on both threads.

Is it the shoulders that are the issue?

I only ask this as some people - no matter what their size - do not dress appropriately, they just have no dress sense. I suppose this may be more noticeable on a larger lady.

I have no dress sense. How does one acquire this? Genuine question.

I use ChatGPT a lot for outfit planning, it’s really useful!

Side by side I’d say my shoulders look pretty similar!

To be honest my tactic with anything I need a strapless bra for is just to tuck the straps of my normal push up bra into the side 🤣 it’s worked so far

Yes! Strapless bras are awful. Either mono boob look or fiendishly uncomfortable. I do what you do too with my ordinary bras.

I look pretty similar to that. Sorry if it offends you to see someone fat and confident in their body

The stick on ones are awful. I had a square boob situation going on

Why does ChatGPT do this? Unless you ask it to slim down your arms or whatever, why can’t it keep things real?

user1471538283 · 06/07/2026 14:17

Oh love wear what you want. I spent my youth worried about the size of my arse and now I don't care and it's the least of my problems. I bet you look fabulous!

Life is so short.

huffdragon · 06/07/2026 14:18

isaidmaybeyoure · 06/07/2026 11:25

But that’s not what I asked.

I asked about a halter neck dress and got told “as you’re a size 18, it’s far too much flesh on display”

It’s interesting how, according to some people, some flesh seems to be ok and other flesh doesn’t. Wear what you like. It’s your body and your life.
