Is it acceptable to travel in shorts and sandals?

Help! The friend group is split on this one and it is largely tongue in cheek

We’re off on a girls holiday soon. Half the group thinks it’s fine to travel in shorts and sandals (Birkenstocks), the other half thinks you need to look put together in the airport and dress in a nice outfit (linen, silk trousers etc), in case of an upgrade. They think the nicer you’re dressed the less likely you are to be asked to check your bag at the gate etc.

So, is it acceptable?! They’re not tiny shorts that show my bum cheeks!

Took me 2 returns to Asia and a short hop to make gold. Not cost related

I fly in my Birkenstocks all the time, I don't often fly in shorts but I don't see anything wrong with doing so. I would just wear what you want and ignore everyone else.

OP - you have an evening flight so it will be cooler both at departure and arrival. Why would you want to wear shorts, t-shirt and sandals, the very items that don't take up much packing space. Wear jeans, if taking them, and the biggest pair of shoes you want to have with you. Wear your jumper. This isn't about a fashion show, it's about packing sensibly.

Off topic, but I'm fuming about the BA thing. Unfortunately, most of my flights are London-NY, so not sure there are other options.

You can join another oneworld FF scheme and collect points on your BA flights. Not sure what's best in that case, maybe look at the BA club page on flyer talk forums

I have enough luggage to take everything! The only thing I can think of is maybe wearing trainers to travel

My feet become enormous when I fly I prefer flip-flops

The only time I’ve ever been upgraded I was wearing jeans and a hoodie 🤷‍♀️
