Calling the police to check on a crying baby

Just had to call the police to check on a new neighbours baby. What would
you have done in this situation?
New neighbours live down our road around 100m away from us and could hear loud very distressed crying for over half an hour.

It sounded like a newborn or young baby crying and so I assumed they’d settle or some attempt to comfort them would be made but the crying stayed at the same level for ther period time. I could also hear raised voices and car doors slamming and I asked my husband if he’d heard it too (he was downstairs) and he said yeah he was worried as well.

Anyway in hoping it was nothing and the little one is fine but it just didn’t sit right and it sounded like no attempt to comfort them was being made at all.

i have no idea who the new neighbours are as it’s quite far from our bit of the road but for it to be that loud from this distance didn’t seem right. I have also had three colicky babies so I do know babies can cry for periods of time but as I said it sounded like no attempt to help them was being made.

Anyway police treating it as a priority case and checking things out. Just wanted to share really as worried.

That's a bit like saying anyone with vague symptoms should go to A and E 'better to be safe than sorry' then wondering how that might mean other people have to wait.

The OP had an immediate concern for the child's welfare. It's not comparable to waiting for a GP appointment versus A&E.

But they’re right! Read it all, OP has added bits on throughout, she said a baby crying (30 minutes that no one was helping to settle, raised voices, and a car door slamming driving off and returning. Now, she says they were screaming at the baby, screaming at each other, lots of doors slamming. It’s very questionable IMO. She also did random name change that someone called her out on.

I think, she called the police because Mrs Perfect Parent heard a baby crying and the main reason for the call is she assumed no one was consoling the baby. Since people have been calling her out, she’s changed her story and added bits on. Also, I think she took it to Mumsnet to make herself feel better because deep down she probably feels like she shouldn’t have called them.

What are these "genuine" cases?

None of which has anything to do with her calling a poster (not the OP), a liar.

Why have you put 'genuine' cases in inverted commas when I made no mention at all of 'genuine cases'.

I didn't say the situation was comparable, I said the poster asking 'who else would have to wait?' in response to someone saying when Police being called out means other people have to wait was comparable to someone saying 'who else would have to wait?' in A and E.

i.e not seeming to understand that when when highly-stretched public services are dealing with one incident, there are others waiting to be dealt with.

You can't even work out who you're answering and have the cheek to say I don't understand.

It's up to the call handlers to dictate priority in those instances.

Nobody knows if this instance was an emergency or not.

That just looks like someone mixed up their user name they were using on this thread with an older one. I've seen that happen before.

You seem to be another person on this thread making up arguments with me that aren't to do with posts I made.

My first post on this thread was less than half an hour ago in response to someone saying 'who would have to wait?' in response to another poster saying inappropriate calls to Police mean someone else in need has to wait while the Police are dealing with it.

So I said who would have to wait? was literally everyone else waiting for Police response and asking that question was a bit like saying who would have to wait? in and A and E department.

It's almost as if you don't understand how discussion boards work.
