Is anyone having fun?

British but live abroad, looking at the news & on here & Sm.
Is anyone enjoying the sun and heat?
I used to love when summer arrived and it was never long enough

Who is loving it and making the most of it and what are you doing? (Planning to return in the next two years, so curious to see how summer looks)

No not enjoying it at all, today’s temperature has tipped it over to represent hell to be fair, have to work all the time and I am really struggling. Feels like wading through treacle (physical job) I am menopausal and have been having a shit time at work for the last 6-12 months.

desperatemum1234 · 25/06/2026 23:03

It’s very hard to enjoy this heat when you’re just working (no air con), commuting, getting kids to and from school (no change to school hours or uniform here), trying to keep them cool and able to sleep etc. No beach or pool. It’s come on suddenly so there’s been no acclimatisation. Infrastructure & houses not set up to deal with this heat. No, not fun.

SmellyNelliey · 25/06/2026 23:05

Absolutely loving it! We home ed our children yesterday we did maths and English outdoors then fruit picking in the afternoon and made a cheesecake with the fruit they had picked....making jam on the weekend and today we have been up to snakes pass unfortunately there are wild fires but we was learning about rivers&streams and the impacted of the warm weather as well as looking at the valleys! Lots of ice lollies included!

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 25/06/2026 23:06

I love the mornings and the sunshine, but the late afternoons and evenings are hellish - especially today. We popped into the garden tonight to see if we might eat outside and it was unbearably hot and muggy. Too hot to sit in the full shade at 7pm. It was "only" about 29 degrees inside in the coolest bit of our house, which felt much more manageable than the temp outside due to the humidity and lack of wind alongside highest ever temperature for our town. It still "feels like" 33 degrees now at 11pm, according to BBC.

TubeScreamer · 25/06/2026 23:08

No

my brain doesn’t work properly and doing anything is a struggle.
I find it depressing to sit inside in dark rooms with the curtains closed during daytime too.

swingingbytheseat · 25/06/2026 23:10

No, I’d be happy by the beach though but I’m in Londom

Ibi · 25/06/2026 23:13

I am loving it so much!! I live in central London so no beach. Work is nice and cool (had to bring in a jacket!). Pick the kids up from afterschool club where they’ve had a lot of fun, home and in the garden and paddling pool, bbqs every night, all sitting outside, eating, chatting, kids to bed, sitting outside chatting together with a glass of wine and watching the World Cup. This is definitely my happy time.

nannahnan · 25/06/2026 23:15

I’m enjoying it! Our office doesn’t have AC but we’ve been munching ice lollies and have had the fans on full blast. Everyone is in a great mood.

RosyDawn · 25/06/2026 23:15

I’m loving it. In inner London so no beach but the Victorian aircon (ie sash windows on both sides of the house) is working well and the garden has shade. Plus the atmosphere when out is fab - loads of people hanging out in parks. I took public transport and it was fine - so many people staying at home it’s not even that crowded.

Anonyanonay · 25/06/2026 23:19

I never knew my boobs could sweat so much. Not fun.

HamBap · 25/06/2026 23:19

Nope, even my old house is like a furnace. No cool air or breeze where we are and the car is a hell box. Too hot to do any jobs inside or out. It's stifling. We live by the coast but the thought of sitting in traffic in said car to get there puts me off.

It feels like an endurance test. I’m loathing it. Feel ill and unbearably lethargic and low.

I was thinking exactly the same earlier, its been an endurance test.

No its not remotely fun or enjoyable. Its 11.20pm and my flat is 30 degrees so hotter than outside. Barely slept but on the plus side lost a few pounds as can barely eat in this heat. Roll on autumn.

magikarpediem · 25/06/2026 23:25

I hate it, I don’t think I’ve ever been more miserable about weather. I am so tired of being sticky that I just want to cry, I’m wasting my days doing nothing except laying in front of a fan because everything else is utterly unbearable for me. It’s 34 degrees in my house.

where are people seeing that this is continuing next week? I’m excessively checking all the weather apps because I’m so desperate for this to pass. None of mine say it’ll continue? For ref I’m in the south, but have been checking London too as I was due to go there today. Had to cancel!

Use met office, its much more accurate and it isnt in the 30s so far where I am which is north m25 commuter belt.

This heat needs to fuck off!

Jellylasagnafortwo · 25/06/2026 23:28

I love it but am surrounded by beaches so can go for a dip before and after work plus a lunch time dip if I’m lucky. I’ve also been in the gym after work for the air con.

OtherS · 25/06/2026 23:28

I have a convertible, so driving as much as I can. Otherwise I'm plonked in front of a massive fan googling air con and doing no work. Which is less fun. But it is only a couple of days, and Sunday's going to feel amazing. And actually, outside is wonderful now - so just need to turn fully nocturnal and I'd be totally content.

Nope. Hate this bloody heat. Can't wait for it to be over!

hattie43 · 25/06/2026 22:54

I hate it . I’m spending my whole days keeping my dogs cool . I’m going to invest in air conditioning I can’t be doing with the worry of them . 26 dogs have died in my area due to this heat .

Why are dogs dying??!

It’s hot six months of the year where we are and don’t hear of this

How awful 😔

We've got it all next week as well haven't we.

Nope here in Mids temp next week is going down from 34 to 22/23 which to me is perfect especially when working in a non AC office

I’m using met office as well, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going through to next week

tho I don’t understand why it says a higher number at the top but when you scroll along the day it’s never getting to that temp (eg for me it says 29 at the top but the hottest is 27 between 1-2. Still too hot for me!)

Waitingfordoggo · 25/06/2026 23:56

Hard to enjoy it if you’re working, and in my case even if you’re not. I’m on holiday in France and it was 40° today. Hate it- genuinely felt really panicky. So oppressive and couldn’t escape it. (No air con, I’m on a campsite). Looking forward to 28° tomorrow- not a temperature I would normally look forward to. I like low 20s.

pilates · 26/06/2026 00:02

No, it’s too hot to do anything and difficult to sleep. Most houses don’t have ac - it’s hell. Worried about my dog too 😔

Happyjoe · 26/06/2026 00:04

Ha, once upon a time it would've been fun. Menopausal, no it's hell! The cat is pretty miserable too.

Happyjoe · 26/06/2026 00:06

ps, but it is fab for washing. My towels were dry by the time the next load was finished!

pilates · 26/06/2026 00:10

Positive: I have washed two dog beds!
