British but live abroad, looking at the news & on here & Sm.
Is anyone enjoying the sun and heat?
I used to love when summer arrived and it was never long enough

Who is loving it and making the most of it and what are you doing? (Planning to return in the next two years, so curious to see how summer looks)

Most people around me seem to be loving it and getting to the beach as much as possible. It's busy down there from 8am till 8pm. Work is dead, schools knocking off at midday. I'm really jealous!

Lmnop22 · 25/06/2026 22:14

It’s fun if you can have a staycation and not work but it’s really not fun if you have to commute and work in awful non air conditioned buildings!

Ive enjoyed the bits where I haven’t had to work for sure but it’s hell when you have to try to get anything practical done and the buildings just aren’t designed for weather this hot

MeinKraft · 25/06/2026 22:15

I am! I wouldn’t like it to last too long but it’s nice to be able to sit out in the evening or go to the beach. Work dead here too it’s like being on my summer holidays! Hopefully get some thunder tonight to clear the air. I am in a Northern rural area though, don’t think i’d be as enthusiastic if i lived in London or Bristol. I also work from home.

Fatiguedwithlife · 25/06/2026 22:17

We are. Paddle boarding yesterday and pottering about in the garden and a local walk today. Plenty of ice lollies. And yes I’ve been working too.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 25/06/2026 22:17

At work: nope. My office is in an old converted house with no air con.
At home: yes because I can hoop outdoors in the garden.
In society: nope because no one can afford to do anything these days.

RipePeach · 25/06/2026 22:20

Most people around here (South West) seem to be going to the beach after or before work. Lots of bbqs on the beach and it’s a great atmosphere. It’s lovely now before all the holiday makers arrive when it will be heaving. It’s hard working in this heat though (in the mid 30s) as none of our buildings are geared up for this kind of heat and difficult to sleep.

Quartzfairy · 25/06/2026 22:20

I think unless you live near a beach, these sort of temperatures are never enjoyable in the UK. Even if you’ve got air con and can stay cool inside, it’s still hot to do anything.

CaptainCorelli · 25/06/2026 22:22

It feels like an endurance test. I’m loathing it. Feel ill and unbearably lethargic and low.

ouchynose · 25/06/2026 22:23

It is not fun.

Alittlefrustrated · 25/06/2026 22:32

Also hating it. I just can't cope wth the heat anymore. My head sweats profusely. I'm normally outdoors a lot walking, and do lots of exercise, but can't in these temps.
I think I've got covid which obviously hasn't helped, as I've been ill and running a temp anyway. I've only just realised, a week in, that I've completely lost my sense of smell...
To think in my youth I chose my holidays baded on where was hottest!

Swimbea · 25/06/2026 22:40

No it's too much. Too humid. Trying to keep animals cool (numerous).

Mornings are okay but the evenings are hideous. Our house is a furnace.

Terfdiarist · 25/06/2026 22:41

Not enjoying this. Feel tired and lethargic and want it to be over!

NewYearNewJob2024 · 25/06/2026 22:42

Definitely too hot imo!!! Nothing is enjoyable in this heat and my DC are hot and bothered!!

LuckyHazelFox · 25/06/2026 22:42

We've got it all next week as well haven't we.

TheChosenTwo · 25/06/2026 22:47

I’m in my element, I love the heat.
Feel really motivated and energised while dh sits inside in the dark with all the blinds shut in front of a fan like a vampire 🫠
He does like the heat on holiday where there is a beer and a pool mere steps away but he finds this too oppressive.
I find the aircon in the office too chilly but am prepared for that.
I’ve been making the most of our local lake for swimming and the gym for their outdoor pool, went for a picnic and swim in a nearby river today with dc when the teen got out of school at lunchtime and we all had dinner in the garden at 9:30, it’s all good with me and I’ll be gutted when we go back to grey skies and rain. Had enough of that this year so far personally.

myfavouritemutant · 25/06/2026 22:47

Yes, loving it. But live in a very old house which stays pretty cool. Just drove my daughter home - roof down, gorgeous summer evening and not even dark at 10pm. It’s like being on holiday. Honestly I’m very happy.

but I’m sorry for all those suffering. And my dog isn’t loving it - she’s missing her walks. I do think several degrees cooler would be ideal.

I thought it was going down to 27 or something next week

Which is a massive improvement on 37.

Yes, that's true!

catonthebeds · 25/06/2026 22:50

As above - mornings are nice and I try to get out and walk about enjoying errands. late afternoons a bit miserable, evenings when we can get a breeze going with open windows it's OK. Had a work social thing on one evening this week which I was dreading but actually was lovely to be at a summer party when it was actually hot.
Kids all off school in the afternoons and I can WFH pretty flexibly so we have had some nice moments in garden or with friends over whose parents are in an office.

We're off to a local outdoor pool tomorrow for a few hours which will be fun, too.

But it has been hard to keep productive with all that going on (did send kids to a friend's one afternoon but was so hot I couldn't get much done apart from basic admin, struggled with stuff which required me to think hard) So having to work late at night to keep up with paid stuff as well as house stuff.

So a mix I guess - enjoying as much as I can but will be glad for a cooler day or two and a normal routine, so I can try to be on top of work before the onslaught of summer holidays

My dogs are the same. I'm not taking them out but I don't think they are fussed. Hate to see our dogs constantly panting. 34 degrees tomorrow so we are going nowhere. I feel for people who are having to go out to work.

JaceLancs · 25/06/2026 22:51

I’m enjoying it
Although my office does not have air con it’s an old building and is fairly cool - we have had fans on when needed
My gym has a fab pool with outdoor swim area and for the brave ones an icy cold plunge pool
I have been enjoying sitting in the garden which is cooler than the house, as sun goes behind the trees from 5 ish but it’s still light enough to sit out till past 10
We have been eating outside lots of salads and cold drinks

Brightpurplerain2 · 25/06/2026 22:52

Nope I’m certainly not at 22 weeks pregnant and dreading the rest of the summer 😂

hattie43 · 25/06/2026 22:54

I hate it . I’m spending my whole days keeping my dogs cool . I’m going to invest in air conditioning I can’t be doing with the worry of them . 26 dogs have died in my area due to this heat .

Oh no really. 😢 I live in a holiday home 10 months of the year and wouldn't be without air con. It really is worth the money.

Soapybubbles1234 · 25/06/2026 22:59

I’m loving it. Out at 6 to walk the dogs. Leisurely breakfast on the garden- feels like being on holiday. Pottering around the house and garden with no feeling I should be doing anything too strenuous. Playing with the dogs in their paddling pool then dinner in the garden and a late walk when the temperature is perfect, the moon is rising. I’d a million times rather be too hot than too cold. I have no complaints
