I'm sorry but I don't speak... Whatever that was. Can anyone else explain?

(Not you "to be clear")

Edited

You know, don't bother actually. I don't really want an explanation as to how ex pats suffering is the fault of remain voters because it's not true.

B). Because France and Germany have such slow growth and there is no reason to believe that ours would have been any different.

That logic doesn’t follow.

Butt3rButt3r · 23/06/2026 16:50

Your wishful thinking is Incorrect, the majority of the UK is now in favour of returning and as time moves on and it bites further with more and more realising what a dreadful mistake it was and how much we were lied to the baying to rejoin will get bigger and louder. We absolutely could rejoin too.

My understanding of the last survey is that is still sits on an almost even balance 49%: 51%

The EU won't take us back unless we give up the £ and that will never happen, so we're out and must proceed on that basis.

Besides, has Labour ever been pro-EU?

Oranginacatterpilla · 23/06/2026 18:05

Jesus Christ, can’t believe people are still banging on about Brexit. No one wants to go back in given all of the fricking hoops we had to jump through to get out, people just need to move on.

Meadowfinch · 23/06/2026 18:18

APageInYourDiary · 23/06/2026 17:24

You won’t get any thanks as absolutely nothing I’ve seen in the last 10 years has suggested my kids will have better lives, so thanks for fucking up their future 🙄

Why do you think your dcs futures have been worsened. People are still able to move to other countries for work. My niece is working at the TUM (Munich) It hasn't stopped her.

nearlylovemyusername · 23/06/2026 18:28

Vaxtable · 23/06/2026 17:04

Brexit was 10 years ago. Lots has happened since that’s affected us that has diidly squat to do with it

we need to get over it stop bringing up and get on with things. It’s happened

and those that think we should rejoin do you acts understand what that will mean? They WILL make an example of us. We will have to pay shedloads more and have less to do with policy making. And they will continue with batshit policies that most member states will ignore and we add stuff to to make it more complicated.

I'd still be willing to try.
Given Trump EU is likely to be willing to make a few concessions. And I'd love to have Euro here, but appreciate it won't fly with electorate.

No one wants to go back in - not true, a lot of people do, as this thread demonstrates.

GasPanic · 23/06/2026 18:47

I don't think Burnham would campaign on a rejoin ticket anyway.

His party is split into two groups, the neolibs, who are mostly rejoin and the traditionalists who are mostly stay out. If he moves towards rejoin the traditionalists go to his nearest rivals, Reform.

So he is likely to do what Starmer did, walk the tightrope between the two groups, offer greater co-operation as a crumb to the neo liberals but not go as far as full rejoin to satisfy the traditionalists.

What other strategy is there that makes sense.

Imdunfer · 23/06/2026 18:47

Butt3rButt3r · 23/06/2026 17:35

😂😂😂😂that can change on a whim in a nanosecond. Have you learnt nothing the last few years. Far better to be part of something massive like the EU rather than a teeny tiny country reliant on sucking up to and begging from massive dictator lead countries like the USA.

We aren't tiny on a world stage, we are the 5th or 6th biggest economy in the world. You are misleading our physical size for our place in the world.

Imdunfer · 23/06/2026 18:48

BIossomtoes · 23/06/2026 17:03

Do you?

Than to going back to the EU? Yes!

TiredShadows · 23/06/2026 18:57

I agree that the idea of another general election is worrisome right now. There is enough in-fighting and nonsense with a leadership contest, we don't need even more stability or the risk of worse getting into power.

I've no idea if it could be a route back to the EU. I don't think it should be a priority. I get the appeal, but any process to do so will take a long while, it is not a magic bullet, we have so many other things that could be focused on that would improve things. We can and would need to work on building better alliances well before the UK could even start the process.

Really, after so many years of governments and people blaming the EU for issues that could absolutely have been dealt with better, it just feels like it's shifted to people blaming not being in the EU for issues that we can deal with better and in some cases will need to before that's seriously on the table.

Brexit has definitely caused the UK issues but there’s been huge seismic global events that have also impacted where we are today.

Germany and France have similar economic struggles to the UK. In fact, some predict they have bigger problems.

Most developed countries eventually plateau - see Japan. China is also slowing and huge economic problems are coming down the line for them. The US is doing relatively well but a lot of that is due to the $ being the reserve currency. They are also experiencing horrendous inflation which is killing living standards for many. House prices are getting insane over there.

DaisyDooley · 23/06/2026 19:02

“Once in a lifetime Referendum”
Maybe if the remainers hadn’t been so vicious towards leavers and disparaged concerns with insults it wouldn’t have happened.
FAFO. Get over it.

But why? Too have an easier passage through an airport. To feel at one with our euro cousins?
Those vacuous excuses are as worthwhile as the guff about the economy etc. I love for someone to give me one provable benefit.

To be able to trade freely with every single country in the EU

To be able to work, study, explore the entire continent of Europe freely

You sound like someone bitter who is stuck in the fifties

it makes me sick how much stupid people get to fuck with everyone else because they hated seeing the enormous potential of their intellectual betters

But that's where we are

If Brexit has been so bad for the economy, why are we the fastest growing economy in the G7?

We aren’t, the US are followed by Canada then France, the UK sit in the middle with barely any difference between us and Japan

We absolutely could rejoin too.

The majority of voters were in favour of leaving for some really bloody stupid reasons, (like believing two posh grifters in salmon coloured trousers, with no power, would be able to stop illegal immigration and give the NHS millions every year) and look where that got us. Have we not learned our lesson? Have we not stopped believing in fantasies and started thinking about the realities?

What conditions would we be rejoining under? Because it certainly wouldn’t be the conditions we left under. We’d be paying a fortune and making Bulgaria look like a world superpower. And we’d be doing it in Euros. If you think the British public was anti EU before, wait until the government breaks it to them that our currency is no more. There’ll be riots.

Honestly, this island gets smaller and smaller every day.

Intellectual betters?

And you can’t understand why they won the referendum? Please don’t ever say you’re shocked at how well Reform are doing.

TheHateIsNotGood · 23/06/2026 21:45

Brexit was 10 years ago and lots of big things have happened since then - Covid, Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Palestine problem and Hormuz. All of which has negatively affected all EU countries, the UK and beyond.

Big changes take time to settle in and it's not as if the EU is doing brilliantly, nor hardly any nation state within it. So calm down a bit on Brexit being the source of all ills.

I doubt there will be a GE as Labour have recognised their gaff with Starmer and just changing their Leader; which is probably a good thing.

It depends which timescale you are looking at - Britain’s economy was the fastest growing in the G7 for the first quarter of this year.
