Why are people so inconsiderate with their vapes?

What is it with people and their vapes? They produce these massive clouds of stinky, sweet, gross vapour and they are either blissfully unaware or they don't GAF, I don't know which.

School sports day today so a lot of the parents went to the cafe next to the school between dropping kids off and waiting for sports day to start.

I sat indoors and a few parents were outdoors, door propped open as it was a hot day.

I'm sat there, eating my breakfast and suddenly, a huge cloud of stinky strawberry vapour that's been inside someone's manky lungs descends over me and my food. I could taste it in my mouth 🤮

I looked over and it's a dad sat just outside with his back to the door, his vape clouds going behind him and straight inside the cafe.

I moved seats and no more clouds descended on me but I had made a mental note to either say something or passively-aggressively close the door, not sure which I would have done.

Then later I am standing by the track on the school field ready to cheer my daughter on and right in front of me, a vape cloud desends again, this time from another dad in front of me.
On the school field.
At sports day. In a three-person deep crowd of parents, some with toddlers.
This time I am pissed off so I went and told the headteacher who was stood at the side and he announced over the tannoy that vaping is not allowed on school premises. I mean, who does that??!?

As it may be apparent, this is more of a rant than a AIBU, but I am curious why people this this behaviour is OK?

Unreasonable - They are just gormless and don't realise what they are doing
Not unreasonable - They must know, because it's obvious, but they are so addicted to their stinky plastic puff pens that they don't care.

Not a big deal for me and think that you need to be a bit more tolerant. Living around other people means that we have an impact on each other. Vapes, smoking, traffic fumes, wood burners etc etc, these things are normal.

You are blatantly on the wind-up.

Smoking and napping are banned at our schools it’s disgusting nobody needs to be on the receiving end of that!

How come you found the time to see both threads in different places but not to read my very first comment on one of them?

I am not. I am annoyed and I believe it's one of those two options. Do you have a third?

I think you are aware that both your 'choices' are offensive to vapers.

A considerate vaper is probably intelligent enough to know my comments are not aimed at them.

An inconsiderate vaper might be offended but I am not sure why I should care.

This has been done to death on here.
It seems mumsnetters (or at least the ones that start threads about them, hate vapes* *and vapers). IRL I don't know anyone that has a problem with them. It's almost as if when you go looking for something to complain about you will find it....

Edited

But you said 'people' not 'some people' so it's reasonable to assume your comments are directed at all vapers.

I do my best to make sure no-one has to inhale my vapour but accidents happen. A sudden puff of wind can change things!

How do you cope with smokers?

You think it's acceptable to be eating your food inside a cafe and have a huge (and these clouds are huge) cloud of sickly sweet flavoured water vapour that has been inside another person cover you and your food?

I hate being around people smoking but napping isn't that bad lol

I hate breathing in cigarette smoke or vapes. It's so selfish to do it in crowds etc. When I was pregnant I got so angry if people would smoke anywhere near me.

Yes, I said why are people so inconsiderate with their vapes... because some people are inconsiderate with their vapes.. and those people are people.

Smokers are generally not a problem for me. Their clouds aren't as big or as intensely smelling and they tend to be more considerate because it's less socially acceptable for some reason.
Noone would dream of sparking up a fag on school premises but apparently some people think it's fine to vape.

If people are vaping in places it's legally allowed then that's just fine in my opinion. You could have closed the door - that would be you taking responsibility for your own comfort.

I assume OP drives around in a car choking us all with its fumes, but has chosen not to engage with the impact of her own behaviour on that one.

It's legal to go up to people eating lunch and fart lol, you still shouldn't do it

You think that you aren't breathing in any air previously exhaled by the people in the cafe?

MotherTuckinGenius · 19/06/2026 14:15

I bloody hate Vapes but even though I’ve never been a smoker if I had to choose which substance to breathe in it would be ciggie smoke over those cloying sickly vape fumes 🤮

No but I would remove myself from that situation instead of just seething about it. I take responsibility for my own comfort.

I'm not sure I could have closed the door really. I was considering it as an option but it's not my cafe, the cafe owner had it propped open and there were other people inside the cafe. Not really my call to close the door.

The car thing was quite an assumption. Not everyone drives, you know.

Exhaled air is very different to huge clouds of vapour that stink.
And you know it.

Yanbu. Vapes should be prescription only - like they are in some other Countries.
