Why are people so inconsiderate with their vapes?

What is it with people and their vapes? They produce these massive clouds of stinky, sweet, gross vapour and they are either blissfully unaware or they don't GAF, I don't know which.

School sports day today so a lot of the parents went to the cafe next to the school between dropping kids off and waiting for sports day to start.

I sat indoors and a few parents were outdoors, door propped open as it was a hot day.

I'm sat there, eating my breakfast and suddenly, a huge cloud of stinky strawberry vapour that's been inside someone's manky lungs descends over me and my food. I could taste it in my mouth 🤮

I looked over and it's a dad sat just outside with his back to the door, his vape clouds going behind him and straight inside the cafe.

I moved seats and no more clouds descended on me but I had made a mental note to either say something or passively-aggressively close the door, not sure which I would have done.

Then later I am standing by the track on the school field ready to cheer my daughter on and right in front of me, a vape cloud desends again, this time from another dad in front of me.
On the school field.
At sports day. In a three-person deep crowd of parents, some with toddlers.
This time I am pissed off so I went and told the headteacher who was stood at the side and he announced over the tannoy that vaping is not allowed on school premises. I mean, who does that??!?

As it may be apparent, this is more of a rant than a AIBU, but I am curious why people this this behaviour is OK?

Unreasonable - They are just gormless and don't realise what they are doing
Not unreasonable - They must know, because it's obvious, but they are so addicted to their stinky plastic puff pens that they don't care.

This honestly made me laugh

can you clarify what “I stared at him with intent” looks like? @cococolo

I imagine he didn’t notice and if he did, he, along with others on the escalators, would have just assumed you were a sandwich short of a picnic

Ah yes the small narcissistic world of the I will vape where the fuck i like vaper. One of life's winners.

YANBU, as per the votes, but a lot of adults are very defensive over their adult dummies as you can see.

The usual race to the bottom is amusing on here. People quoting every pollutant from perfume to car fumes to justify their silly vaping habit!

Actually I don’t really give vaping a second thought on a day-to-day basis. I think people look a bit foolish, but that’s all really.

Agree . There is no doubt it will have its health repercussions.

Edited

The way some of these vapers talk is that they think it is positively good for them!

Or the small narcissistic world of ‘instead of speaking to a member of staff I will just glare at the person - that’ll sort it. Then I can tell MN how cool I was’ 🤣

Intent to what? Grope him?

I can’t believe you’ve had to draw a diagram of a cafe and answer stupid questions about whether you know the person. Who cares about any of that - it’s just distractions from the fact that yes it’s gross and inconsiderate.

I can’t stand the awful sweet smells being blown into by face or wafting from people walking around.

if they want to put that in their lungs then go them. But don’t subject us to it. Was at a park today with the kids and sat on a blanket having a snack. Had at least three lots of people around us laid back and vaping, blowing their awful stink all over us. We had to move in the end.

yes I know they have the right to do it. It’s not illegal and it was in a public space. That’s why we moved. But it doesn’t make it considerate. I know some people who vape and will go away from groups and do it a bit more discreetly and do it doesn’t impact others.

I wish they weren’t scented. And I agree that they should be prescription only. Someone upthread said that. To actually help reduce smoking.

I don't really believe that they are a stop smoking tool any more. Plenty of people go straight to vapes and have never smoked. They are "the thing" in schools now. All the kids vape rather than smoke. My son is going into year 9 and says absolutely none of the usual smoking crowd smoke, it's all about vapes.

So what though? People whined about the smoking and now it’s much rarer, people are whining about vaping.

At some point some of you may learn that not liking something is fine but expecting behaviour to change as a result of your own personal preferences is futile

And at some point some of you may learn that liking something is fine but expecting others to put up with your behaviour is selfish and inconsiderate.

I don't hold out much hope though. Smoking needed changes in the law just to get people to stop subjecting others to their habits, maybe vaping will eventually come with restrictions. And it'll be you lot whining then.

Not me - I dont smoke or vape.

There are things that bug me about other people and in fact cause me some level of harm but that’s just life

I smoke and vape, but never indoors, and never round other people.
If i want to do either when out and about i try and find somewhere secluded.
I do think its antisocial to expose everyone else to it, but i also think that most of society these days is self absorbed just doesnt give a fuck.

Same goes for phones on speaker, kids being allowed to run around screeching and making nuisances of themselves, loud music, pot smokers in city centres, the list goes on.
