To think it’s odd to tell your kids where they were conceived?

I’ve always had a love of Italy and even went on to study Italian at university. My mum recently and rather casually dropped into conversation that I was conceived in Rome!

My parents had been in Rome for two weeks that summer.

Telling your eight year old they were conceived in a 'drunken knee-trembler around the back of the Colosseum when your father and I just couldn't keep our hands off one another for one more second, even though we were in the middle of a guided tour'? Weird.

Telling your adult child they were conceived in a particular city? Not weird.

I think it’s often a case of TMI!

Having said that dad told me I was the result of him coming back from a tour of duty in RAF to their base as I was clearly an unexpected extra.

😂I was conceived in a cupboard under the stairs in a house in Golders Green during a party, the swinging sixties (not that M&D did swinging😂, just quickie among the cleaning things)

Greengage1983 · Today 10:01

Yep, definitely weird! I wouldn't want to know!

Presumably Romeo was in the back of an Alfa 164…😄

How do people know the specific occasion their children were conceived, I’ve never had a clue ! Not that I’d have told them anyway, what child or adult come to that needs to hear that.
If my mum told me now I’d be 🤢 no thanks, I don’t need to know that !

That's how Brooklyn Beckham got his name as he was conceived there

No wonder the poor guy has issues, it can’t help that the whole world knows that, surely !

Well, I only have one child, and DH and I were living in different countries for work at the time, so we only had unprotected sex once, and that was when DS was conceived.

OhBotherSaidPoo · Today 10:18

I'm amazed people know. Are they having that little sex they can recall exactly when and where?

GreenSmallBird · Today 10:22

I had morning sickness almost from the point of conception and I got pregnant the first month we tried to conceive every time so I know exactly when all my DC were conceived. I also know I was conceived in a holiday cottage in Norfolk because I randomly drove past it with my mum in the car and she laughed and said that’s where I was created 😂

Similar story here - my parents were living in separate countries when I was conceived so it could only have happened when she was visiting where he was. They were also trying to conceive so, I guess, were paying more attention to things.

I know exactly where my children were conceived. And not because we were having v little sex, but because when we were trying we were always at home!

Yes, that makes sense. I had trouble conceiving, over a long period of time so I had no idea when it actually happened!

Yes, we were TTC. I was using ovulation sticks, and tracking other (too gross to type here) fertile time symptoms, so I know exactly when the well-timed deeds happened! My husband was away doing training for work, I turned up at his hotel, and went home the next day. I know it was then 😂

Believe me, we were totally taken aback. I was 39, and thought it would take ages, or possibly not happen at all, so everything happened far faster than expected!

Ick. Well, some people name their kids for it. And proudly tell you why India got her name!

yes, some are more obvious, than others,
Paris, Lynton, Kendal, (known as Ken) Lincoln, Richmond (Yorks) Chelsea,
Barnes (middle name) India, Marlow, Chester, of my own acquaintance.

Famously, Rudyard Kipling, named after the Midlands lake where his parents honeymooned.

My eldest was IVF Liverpool's women's. Took him to see Hot Wheels Monster Trucks at the Arena on his birthday and included a fly-past of the hospital to show him where he was made. Was a bit emotional.

Number two was conceived on the living room floor, not really the same tale. Maybe it depends on the story. Rome is quite romantic

I also like the Korean tradition that your Korean birthday is the day you were conceived, because that is when new life begins. Love working it out for people so they find out they were conceived when UTD won the FA cup, or they were a Xmas quickie. Surprising how many grown adults with their own children get the ick

Actually, he wasn’t! He was conceived in Copenhagen.
They were in NYC when they discovered Victoria was pregnant.
Cruz was conceived/born in Madrid
Romeo was conceived on a balcony
Harper was conceived in a bookstore

PollyBell · Today 10:51

I would say there is a difference in saying in Paris or in the back of a lorry on the M62 or on the washing machine

BleedinglyObvious · Today 10:53

Depends where it was. Italy would be fine, back seat of his Vauxhall Astra, not ok.

DramaAlpaca · Today 10:58

I was conceived in Blackpool, on or around my dad's birthday. I was told this as a teen, I can still remember the cringe Grin
