AIBU to question the media response to the Belfast attack?

Squirrel001 · Today 08:55

Why are the media being silent on the Belfast attack?

Is the open borders narrative that important to them that they feel the need to ignore one of the most horrific attacks ever seen on a UK street?

I despair for the future of the UK. It’s grim.

It’s also not just a stabbing it’s a Lee Rigby type attack

That went through my mind.

Walkyrie · Today 10:23

The attacker was apparently trying to behead the poor victim

There are stills (non graphic) on the daily mail. The victim is lying in the road, the attacker is straddling him and has one hand on his head/neck area, the other is raising what I assume is the weapon to behead him although it’s greyed out.

There's a lot in between have a coffee morning and smash the whole place up and set things on fire though isn't there.

If the way you deal with frustration is mindless violence then you need to grow the fuck up.

Sadly to make change we have to be an inconvenience and make a noise.

I don't advocate violence but people are sick and tired of being told to sit down and shut up.

TrishM80 · Today 10:24

Was it another doctor or engineer that did this attack?

Nanda66 · Today 10:26

It seems to have been a terrible attack but I think it’s important that media outlets establish facts rather than reporting rumours. Someone has now been arrested so reporting will follow the necessary protocols if they are charged.

Well, you do you, but people are understandably angry and it's human nature to get angry. Are communities just expected to shrug and turn away? If we hadn't have got angry then we wouldn't have defended this country countless times before in history. Where else in the world are a population expected to just shrug when attackers come for them? Man has been fighting to defend himself and his land since time immemorial so what's different now? Half a million years of evolution to be swept away because it's 2026 and we now have to 'be kind'? Doesn't work like that.

You and I are here today because our ancestors fought and died for us. I wonder what our children will be thanking us for in the future.

The “troubles”? Ffs, do you know how many people died?

Over 3k, plus 10s of thousands injured, 100s of thousands affected with PTSD, lack of opportunities for a normal life, jobs etc but we did call the conflict the Troubles so I don’t know why you’re getting your knickers in a twist over that.

Probably due to 'mentul 'elf' due to the deranged nature of said attack.

I’ve seen the video. The attacker is unhinged. And appears to be cutting and stabbing at the head area of a man he’s got pinned to the ground. The person videoing is shouting about him trying to cut his head off and calling for help before men run and hit the attacker with a hurl.
The police or responsible media are going to find out what was actually happening before they release information. Speculation in their part could jeopardise the court case when it comes.
the report of a ‘ brutal’ attack seem accurate enough to me.

And that is why reporting has been circumspect.

Why would you want to integrate with illegal immigrants from countries that are too dangerous to visit? Would mothers of daughters happily send them off for student exchanges to Eritrea, Somalia and the like!

Gladystheimpaler · Today 10:34

In contrast to OPs original post, the police and media have now published the nationality of the attacker, muted details of the crime but warnings as to the graphic content, and quotes from leaders on how this is not a usual crime. All within 12 hours of the incident. We need to readjust our expectation that we deserve all the information about complex crimes immediately. We don't. This is a very quick and reasonable turn around of information by officials.

It is all over the media. It’s a stabbing. It’s awful but it happens everyday up and down the country

People are publicly beheaded every day in the UK? Well, that’s news to me.

Exactly. It's absurd. We're not even permitted to discuss the full picture of what's going on either. They really do have things tied down. Expect more and more of this going forward. Expect more force by the media and authorities to shut up and accept it as well.

People are pinned down, eyes gouged and attempts to behead up and down the country? Where on earth do you live that this is commonplace?!

It’s a stabbing. It happens everyday. Of course a certain sect of society is trying to make this something to riot about.

You don’t have to speculate to report visible facts.

The reporting in the Belfast newspaper above reports the events accurately.

I’ve read the BBC and RTE (Irish version of BBC) and one other newspaper I can remember and from the words used there was no indication as to why people were so angered about this.

There are ways of reporting that would not have people questioning if it was being reported with an agenda to downplay the actual facts which both the BBC and RTE definitely did.

The problem is everyone that rushes in to make excuses ends up looking invariably foolish when the facts are, broadly speaking, in line with the speculation. When it come to video footage there’s only so much room for error. I too would prefer disclosure of only confirmed facts but social media doesn’t work that way.

This is a VERY unusual attack. But that’s not going to stop the loyalist paramilitaries who are fanning the flames of hatred for immigrants from turning this into something they get riot about. Fucking hoods.

It’s not unusual, not in England anyway.

It wasn’t a stabbing. It was the gouging out of eyes and an attempted beheading. It was barbaric. And it won’t be reported by msm that the attacker was Somalian or what he was shouting.

The bbc news story states somalian
