AIBU to question the media response to the Belfast attack?

Why are the media being silent on the Belfast attack?

Is the open borders narrative that important to them that they feel the need to ignore one of the most horrific attacks ever seen on a UK street?

I despair for the future of the UK. It’s grim.

Those anti immigration protests are happening all the time, across Ireland and the UK, people are worried and concerned and have every right to be. When ethnic communities are having their homes burned down that’s not a protest that’s civil disorder, how can you not see this ?

Of course I see that. But it’s interesting that traditionally immigrant friendly countries are now also protesting.

Do c&p these alleged racist right wing comments. Ive only seen most been reasonable, sadly some are all about the sectarianism. Old habits I suppose.

There were shouts of foreigners out. Cars were stopped and checked for foreigners. Black, brown and European people were burnt out of their homes.

But no racism here?

Oops, you're that poster. The one casting doubt we're experiencing violence at all.🤦‍♀️

Agreed, it’s very disheartening. The Irish on both sides of the border need to remember their history and I say that as an Irish person.

The Irish have always welcomed immigrants looking for international protection, up as feb 2022, before the border opened for the Ukrainian people and they got an absolute influx in an already struggling country, struggling for housing, education and health care.
There are 1000’s of POC who have lived happily here. The division now is disgraceful and it impacts the genuine refugees and longterm residents who arrived in the 90’s.
I am not supporting the violence. The government needs to be proactive and stop with the heart on their sleeve that is steamrolling the racism.

Anyone supporting, condoning, or minimising the violence aimed at "get he immigrants out" is a racist. Anyone who believes that an entire segment of the population-based on colour, or immigration status- should be condemned because of the actions of one man are racist in my book, and there are plenty of those disgusting posts on here.

Well I didn't say there wasn't violence, I said 3 arrests didn't sound like chaos and mayhem tbf.

The point I and others have made is that some of you hell bent on making this a sectarian thing (maybe nostalgia?), are wrong. Lots of people of every political stance have issues with what has happened.

Instead of bleating on about 'the loyalists' don't you even care that this animal just strolled over the border? Aren't you bothered that more will now follow?

Presumably you’ve seen the pictures of burnt out cars and the bus and read the eye witness accounts? I’d say chaos and mayhem was a mild description. If there were only three arrests in the midst of that I’d say it reflects pretty poorly on PSNI.

Ah, so glad you accept that the violence in Belfast is real and happening. So your post was just you demonstrating your ignorance of policing violent protests?

Yes true. Maybe that why there's all the crime and lawlessness generally that a pp kept listing.

I don’t know if it’s a poor or a sensible reaction from the PSNI. Had they arrested every trouble maker or even a dozen it would cause even more carnage, these yobs can fight for days even weeks. The Ballymena riots went on for a long time. As awful as it is, it looks like the main concern was getting people out safely last night before arresting the rioters. That’ll be tonight if it continues.

A sensible response would indeed be to look back at the processes by which the claimant was granted asylum. Maybe something was missed that shouldn't have been?

A better response than terrorising innocent people out of their homes.

But of course there'll be more riots over the white person jailed today for trying to kill someone with an axe. Won't there?

What, this evening? I can’t see anything in the news although I suppose bit early for that.

'But of course there'll be more riots over the white person jailed today for trying to kill someone with an axe. Won't there?'

I haven't heard of an asylum seeker randomly targeting an innocent man with an axe. Where was this? Not the 2 drug addled housemates in Hartlepool I hope as obviously not remotely comparable.

It wasn’t an asylum seeker. It was a 19 year old British woman. No riots.

200 masked youths are heading to an asylum hotel apparently, helicopters out and all sorts. I know nothing about Irish law but if it’s comparable to ours, I’m amazed these kids will risk 15 year jail stretches for a night of madness. Just don’t understand that mentality at all although DH did comment on the difference between English riots and NI riots. It’s very rare here for a building to be set on fire, especially multiple buildings. Things just seem to spiral over there very quickly.

Yes they got 3yrs for chucking a traffic cone in Southampton. Wtf are the psni playing at. Oh they have to be nice because the troubles or some such seems to be the explanation by a pp.

No

The people who live in and are from northern Ireland, where this has occurred and been hijacked by loyalist gangs to cause maximum mayhem are pointing out that is what's happening and that it's a northern Ireland problem.

Then there's you. With no clue what you're on about trying explain it to us

3 arrests can absolutely mean chaos. The psni are completely stretched. They’ve requested assistance from the policing body overseeing the uk (can’t remember the actual game). They’re arriving tomorrow. The chief constable said they prioritised risk for life- getting families safely out of their homes. They made the right call. And thankfully no deaths occurred last night but it could’ve been a different story.
