AIBU to question the media response to the Belfast attack?

Why are the media being silent on the Belfast attack?

Is the open borders narrative that important to them that they feel the need to ignore one of the most horrific attacks ever seen on a UK street?

I despair for the future of the UK. It’s grim.

Wishful thinking. Sadly these 'protests' show these hideous views abound in real life

No upset about the crime then? Anything on that?

EmeraldShamrock000 · Yesterday 22:10

Not because it is particularly horrific but because it fits the anti immigration agenda.

Read the thread for other horrifically violent crimes perpetrated in northern Ireland in the past few years. This isn't the most horrific.

Nope, because there was viral footage recording the incident, without that, it would be put down as a stabbing. Two girls were stabbed in Dublin recently with a bottle, twins, by an immigrant, a man intervened, stabbed too, there was no riot, Alex coughlan murdered last week, no riot, by immigrants, it’s the visual that set this off.

Read the thread for that. I've been most vocal.

Any words for the men women and children who will suffer over ight and beyond because of these 'protestors'?

Is it?

Because days ago before this happened, not that you'd know, masked men were lining the streets 'protesting' flanked by a DUP MP. DID YOU KNOW THAT? Did you know women and children were being harassed in the street and these 'men' have been spoiling for a fight? You've no idea what you're speaking on

Velumental · Yesterday 22:16

Private vehicles now set on fire on driveways and residential streets. And it's not dark yet

BIossomtoes · Yesterday 22:19

Looks as if July has come early this year @Velumental.

MsJinks · Yesterday 22:22

Just in from a local counter protest - though the protest was called due to event in Belfast heard not one thing about it. Did hear stuff about ‘pedos’ and protecting women. So we read out names of women killed in U.K. - they shouted over it and dismissed it - finally penetrated this possibly wasn’t a good look. They went.

They were definitely not there about the terrible stabbing - just as they could shout and cause trouble. It isn’t concern it’s ignorance and violence they’re bothered about.

It's so so horrible. Noone on the supposed side of the northern Irish people against immigrants on this thread has any idea how quickly those tension turn to the existing divide and the knife edge that peace balances on back home.

They've no idea what goes on in the worst areas of the shankill and the falls and similar and those still living in it are still living with the 'what happens in the house stays in the house' mentality we're all raised with.

Honestly I despair of what the night will bring and any that's not reported for the right wing goons I'll bring news of back to this thread. Since they care so much, you know, about the people of northern ireland.

Thank you for not being sucked into it. The right wing agenda in northern Ireland is as always horrific and violent. And not remotely thought through. Just some violent aholes calling their violent aholes pals, taking it as a great way to work out frustrations on drug patches as well as secterian divides. Stay safe whatever you do.

How on earth would genuine anger over a murder lead to.....setting fire to a bus?????

It's an excuse for violent thuggery and nothing more.

Honestly, when horrific incidents like this happen, there are some who salivate at the idea of riots. It’s become an inevitable consequence that some idiots delight in.

Pepperlee · Yesterday 22:34

Velumental · Yesterday 21:38

Nor do you have to be an immigrant

Thanks for agreeing.

Fixydodah · Yesterday 22:40

I didn’t pick up on this horrific incident until home time after work. I avoided all news today and felt all the better for it. Made the mistake at looking at the news headlines on way home. We can’t stop any of this happening- it is for those who govern who need to lead us out of this mess. They won’t. Maybe we should just not watch the news etc. Bury our heads against the misery.

I didn't say I was 'only' at risk from asylum seekers. I don't care if the number is tiny, one is too many.
Other countries who are brave enough to check have shown that there is a higher risk of sexual assault from asylum seekers from certain countries per capita. We don't collate that information because we don't want the answer.

You said you believed you were more likely to be murdered by an asylum seeker than anyone else. Aside from the fact that you’re very unlikely to be murdered at all, you are wrong. Quite clearly wrong. For the reasons in my post. Your rosk assessment is way off.

cardibach · Yesterday 22:59

KatiePricesKnickers · Yesterday 19:23

If it’s a tiny fraction of a tiny number why is it happening constantly?

It isn’t. You hear about every single one, at length. It’s a small number.
And just to be clear, I’m not minimising the murders that have happened at all. I’m just pointing out that most murders are not committed by asylum seekers, so thinking you’re more likely to be murdered by one than by anyone else is poor risk assessment.

As a northern Irish raised Catholic woman I'd be at far greater risk from the men in balaclavas wielding red hand tattoos and union flags than immigrants if I was walking through Belfast tonight.

This is insane

mumofoneAloneandwell · Yesterday 23:03

My love to you all in Belfast.

There you go. A family burnt out of their home and having to flea to an armoured police vehicle. They must be delighted at the protest in their honor don't you think?

Everanewbie · Yesterday 23:11

@Velumental this angers me. People who take issue with immigration policy are now grouped in with these idiots. This violence comes at a time when the local community least needs it.

BIossomtoes · Yesterday 23:16

It really saddens me. N Ireland is so beautiful and Belfast is one of my favourite cities. The last few times I was there I really thought it had turned the corner. Tonight it feels as if it’s turned the clock back 30 years.

This thread complaining about 'lack of reporting' is literally BAYING for riots like this!

This IS the far right.

This IS the dreggs of society I referred to earlier when told 'northern Irish men are among the most respectful I've run into in all 27 countries I've lived in' or whatever.

I'm not saying all northern Irish men but I AM saying these men are there, all the time, waiting for a cause to rise up and champion as a excuse for their violence and God alone knows what else.

It's all tied up back home, violence, anti immigration propaganda, evangelical christians anti abortion propaganda, drug rackets, violence both physical and sexual against both women and children especially. This thread has gotten under my skin and I hope this explains why.

The op blowing the conspiracy theory horn, insisting this should all be widely reported and that the people should rise up and protest. And here we are. Riots by people with no idea why they are rioting except they get to go into areas they otherwise aren't welcome in and burn out cars, buses and homes. There'll be people burnt in their beds and the op will be still be banging her bin lid.

Those are children by the way. In their last few weeks of primary school, who should be safe in their beds. Burnt out of their home. Not by immigrants by their neighbours

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 23:33

Velumental · Yesterday 22:09

People are going to get hurt tonight, suffer, potentially be raped and murdered at the hand of these 'protestors' and their mob mentality. Not that the wider UK will ever know because while it's northern Irish killing northern Irish they don't give a hoot

Absolutely frightening reading this post makes.
