Throwing drink cartons out of bedroom window

How strict would you be on this?

Dh just doing the front garden and came in with an empty drink carton saying ‘They’ve thrown this out of the window’
Dd, 7 and friend playing in her bedroom upstairs, I called up to ask her and she said her friend did it to be silly to our dog (he’s a lovely boy) I just said ok and not to throw rubbish again.
Dh angry about it, is it really that bad? It’s not ideal at the end of the day, but they’re only 7

I can't think of a single empty drink carton in the world that's going to hurt a dog when thrown from a window.

I mean, they're made of cardboard 😳

But the most important thing here would've been to make the child go downstairs, pick the carton up and put it in the bin.

And then let that be the end of it after telling him not to do it again.

So it's OK to throw things at animals if it isn't big enough to hurt them?

Nice twist, but big fail as people can actually see I was replying to...

It's worse that she was trying to hurt the dog (depending on the type of container, he could get badly injured, especially if he tries to pick up a can etc).

🤭

At seven your child should know to ALWAYS use a bin, to set an example to shitty kids that throw litter on the ground, no exceptions, no excuses. Teach your child how to conduct herself.

We have, but you still haven't explained what exactly they were doing with regard to the dog. That is the key to how serious this is.

The OP has been asked multiple times to clarify this and hasn't done so. Interesting.

Interesting?
I didn’t see and I think I have said, she said he was playing around and said for a joke to
throw it out but it would hit Ddog. It was a soft carton with straw

If you told her not to and she does it again then it's fair enough to be angry but you handled it fine

Ilovewatchingthedrama · 08/06/2026 10:26

You have dealt with it reasonably for a first instance. I would, however, be watching the friend for more “silliness” directed towards the dog

If hate to be a kid in some your houses ,,would be less rules at colditz ,lighten up They're 7 its perfectly normal silly 7yr olds egging each other on . They've been told and hopefully calmed down the high jinks..Never seen anything like it ops child's friend is a potential serial killer who like to harm dogs and ops child is on fast track to juvey according to someone ppl on this thread . Makes me wonder if someone of you live in a alternative reality .

Is it really worth going that far though? They knew from me calling up and mentioning it they shouldn’t do it and friend who did it is likely embarrassed

Well surely it is a bit of a big thing. You've put it on MN!

Hopefully the friend is so suitably embarrassed that she's now learnt that it is not the thing to do. 😇

One of mine did this once when they had a friend round at a similar age i think I got more mad that they where pissing about near an open upstairs window.

They need to learn and when they have you can allow drinks in the bedroom again.
