Who do LL's get so much hate on MN?

It seems so much more hate than there is any real life.

Maybe because if your LL is brilliant you aren't likely to post about it?

That's probably true.

Because the commodification of housing is causing untold misery.

It's one of the worst social ills in my opinion.

Landlords are regularly awful. I've had lots, and only one decent one.

But nowhere near as vocal.

Because they suck.

I needed to rent a home when working away for three years, and I in turn rented out our family home. How does that cause any misery?

Should I have sold our home, bought a new one, then done the same again afterwards?

Agreed. Whilst they earnestly insist they're "making no profit"

Exactly this. It’s like asking why people didn’t like the robber barons, or why Bezos and his fellow tech bros are so widely disliked.

But it's a transactional relationship.

Food is a necessity isn't it, but I don't expect Tesco to sell to me at cost or not make a profit.

And what about doctors, getting paid because people are sick. Terrible people.

Yes, quite. There’s a distinct lack of joined-up thinking on this. Getting paid for supplying food or healthcare is OK, but getting paid for providing a home is awful.

Jealousy and lazy reasoning.

Many people have decided that they should be entitled to free luxury homes and that landlords somehow steal that opportunity from them. Ignoring that's it's a business and that being a landlord doesn't mean having "free money".

It's only landlords, other essentials like food, or even clothing etc are a business too, but because proportionally it cost less, they dont' see it that way.

But you also don't expect starvation to be accepted. But homelessness is.

And housing has increased in value far far more than food.

Over the last decade housing hasn't increased in value more than food, not even near it!
