Who do LL's get so much hate on MN?

It seems so much more hate than there is any real life.

You are confusing two things.

There is absolutely no way the size of a persons engagement ring can affect you.

The person wearing it can affect you, but the size of it makes no difference to your life whatsoever.

I don’t agree. I see the ring and it affects me mentally/ physically. I know what type of person I’m with and I don’t feel comfortable

I feel the same about big expensive cars and the noisy vroom - vrooms I see in central London ( one has a number plate approximately ‘Iam18’!)
Don’t tell me these people don’t intend to affect other people. 😳
You can tell what they think of themselves when they park on double yellow lines and the way the occupants get out, all mean- looking.

On the other hand I saw an aged chauffeur-driven limo pull up outside a restaurant. Two old dears climbed carefully out and hobbled into the restaurant. They were beautifully and carefully dressed and made a lovely picture. Rich people don’t have to be horrible,

Then that is scars you need to deal with.

There is no way you can tell if somebody is a nice person or not by the size of their ring.

You may have had a bad experiencing from a woman with a big ring, but there are plenty of lovely women with a big engagement ring.

Sorry, but I haven't met them yet. They may be lovely for you, 'cos you've got one too!😂

I just don't judge people on how they dress are what they wear.

I don't care if your engagement ring comes from Argos or Tiffany's, I will judge you on how decent you are as a person - not by the size of your ring.

That’s great, but that’s ’cos you wearing a pretty sizeable knuckle duster yourself. 😆

No it's because I don't judge people on what they wear.

I don't believe in telling other people what they think. It's right against my rules.

However, judging by your various comments, I wonder whether you're operating a bit of a double standard here, or a bit of self deception?

So much of the trappings of wealth are built on the appearance and effect on others, and you're so concerned with wealth, that it's extreremely difficult for me to believe you don't put any weight on these things in relationships.

I am not telling you what to think, you are of course absolutely free to hold whatever view you so wish.

I am just saying I wouldn't judge people based on what they are wearing.

Primark or Prada - I don't care - if you are a decent person then I am going to be a decent person to you.

Some people hate tenants. They don’t want people they think beneath them living in their building or street. But they know it makes them look like crashing snobs to say that out loud , so they bang on about “ awful landlords “ buying properties.

None of them have any useful suggestions about who will accommodate 20% of UK households if it’s not private landlords.

None of then want to pay one single penny extra in tax to build the millions of council / social housing units that would be required.

None of them give a flying f**k about the families who will aways have to rent and can never afford to buy. Or mobile workers. Or asylum seekers and refugees . Or students. All of who depend on the private rented sector.

They only care about their ( incorrect and bigoted ) perception that scum tenants are bringing down their house prices.

DefiantRabbit9 · 12/06/2026 13:15

coulditbeme2323 · 12/06/2026 08:53

Why?

Cheap bastards don't want to pay. They've got tenants paying at least £700 a month per room and even when they sell they still make a tidy profit even with the damage. One of these houses has a mouse problem and they travel so suffice to say a lot of us neighbours are trying to pressure the council to force them to fix it up.

DefiantRabbit9 · 12/06/2026 13:31

Itchthescratch · 12/06/2026 09:37

Because the landlord ultimately will have to sell the house? It's not like future buyers will overlook all this stuff and offer the same as a house that has been properly maintained. Skipping on basic maintenance is normally a false economy for homeowners whether they live there or not.

Edited

They still make a tidy profit though. Take for example the worst offender on our road we'll call him Ratman. He bought the property 13 years ago for 125K. He's put in money to convert it to an HMO so let's say he put in 10K that means he shelled out 135K. He gets at least £700 a month in rent which is still a steal for context my old 1 bd flat, 10 minutes walk away is being let out for 1.8K per month. The cheapest house on the road was sold last year at 425K. So even if Ratman sells at 200K which he won't he'd still make a profit of 65K.

If you don't keep a nice property, you are far more likely to attract a type of tenant who will cause your problems.

Oh I know, they cause ME plenty of problems but in his words "they're just money to me. As long as they pay I don't care"

I'm sure. My mother is a LL of a property in Crawley and she literally uses my experience of LL's as a template of what not to do. Unfortunately you and her are the minority.

Exactly. I rented about 8 different houses before buying (moved around a lot at uni/ in my 20s) . In all that time I had one decent landlord

(And I was a well paid professional)
