People from other countries - they’re just better than us, aren’t they?

I’m on holiday in the Balkans and like everytime I go overseas, it’s difficult not to conclude people from other countries are just better than us.

Immaculately kept, litter free, great service in bars and restaurants by experienced staff, polite well behaved kids eating out in restaurants, not a screen in sight. Everyone generally better looking, better dressed.

Or do I have rose tinted holiday goggles on?

Oh I don’t think she is English.

Great deduction Sherlock Holmes, I wrote on this thread that I'm not. Where are you from?

Another thing that shows how cold the English culture can be.

Mumsnet, a forum that was launched in England, is a forum full of bullying, coldness and nastiness.

Posters that start threads are often mocked, belittled and derided.

No other forum that I see anywhere online is as cruel as this one.

I'm not sure you get our humour @Scarlettjune

Don't bother replying and calling me cold again. I kind of get it.

I haven't seen all of reddit. But when I type in a question in Google and it brings up a reddit thread, because someone has asked the same question on there, the thread is always full of useful advice.

On mumsnet, I see people coming on, asking a question, and be bullied and mocked into the ground. Not even gentle mocking. People usually resort to calling the OP 'unhinged' 'mentally unwell' ' deranged'

Kindly @Scarlettjune I think you need to take a break for a few weeks from the internet. A lot of things on it seem to be upsetting you. I don't see anyone being mean and 'cold' and most British people are lovely, warm, funny, kind people. And whilst Mumsnet can have some pretty harsh posters, the majority are really funny, kind, and helpful.

Not a dig, not being mean, just some advice. I think you need to step away from the internet for a few weeks. Go for a few walks. Read a book. See some friends. Get out in the sun. Smile

It's funny how you think you know Me. Lol. I'm not 'only on the internet'. I was in Paris last week.

Advice for you: don't assume things about people's lives when you don't know them.

I see posters being bullied and trashed into the ground on here every week

I think Scarlettjune has been hurt by an Englishman/woman in the past and we should cut her some slack. Don't let the hate eat you up, there are cold and nasty English people, just the same as in Ireland/Scotland/Wales. We are all different in personality, you get bad ones who show no emotion - did someone ghost you? Horrible when that happens.

But there are so many good English people too and you should know this if you are living in England, as you say.

Oh dont be ridiculous
Thats the nature of the internet you know the world wide web
People think they can say anything because its annonymous
And yes AIBU can be brutal but thats not the only forum on mumsnet

You missed her point

did i? because i consider myself Balkan and every other Balkan person i know will say 'im going on holiday to balkans' most of us have families all over balkans and in one day we could visit three separate borders just to go for a beach day or to a restaurant sometimes even to a shop because stuff is chesper across the border lol its just essier saying balkan than a specific country.
plus we share same dna so realistically we are all same
people wether we're from croatia serbia bosnia or montenegro etc

Hang around on a different board to Aibu. There is relationships, chat, etc, aibu has always had tough, although I do agree that at times it’s a frenzy of vipers snipping.
Push them back in their box.
There is so many great people on mnet. Telly addicts is a great place for a good laugh.

Yes I am being serious. Most people on here are lovely. It's a shame you're not seeing all these nice and funny people. You are just choosing to see/pick out the bad posters/the not-so-nice posters, and are coming across as having a very negative attitude. As a pp said, try going to some boards other than AIBU. This is well known for being harsh!

I think it's very sad that you have such a low opinion of British people (well, English if we're being honest here!) You should open your heart and meet with and talk to a lot more Brits. You'll see we are a lovely, funny, kind nation with huge warm hearts. Smile The British are an awesome nation. I love being British, and am very proud of being British!

By "an" Englishman/woman?

It's been way more than from one person. Some of My family have also experienced nastiness from English people, before I was born. Some of my Friends have also experienced nastiness and cruelty.

Yes not all English people are like that. But the most abuse I have received in my life has been from English people. I've never experienced nastiness from Scottish, Irish, American, Spanish, italians. Not once

Yes, there's definitely some projecting going on. It makes my soul weep though, that anyone thinks that the British (English!) are so nasty and cruel and cold. We are a lovely, kind nation, and my heart aches for anyone who feels so much bitterness and hate towards an entire nation. That has to be a reason for it (as you say) but still, it sad, and also ridiculous in equal measures to tar everyone with the same brush.

Just noticed this after I posted my last post. I'm so sorry that you have been treated so badly by people, and it's been pretty much all British/English. I do promise you though that we're not all mean, cruel, and nasty, and many of us have kind hearts. Flowers

It sounds like your parents/folks fed you English hate growing up after they had a bad experience. I do understand as someone in my life growing up used to make comments about certain people and as a child you absorb this, but luckily I developed my own mind. Otherwise I would've been hating people with the same bias, abusing them and then getting abuse back.

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Most folk are nice if you are nice too.

No my parents didn't talk about it alot to be honest.

I've experienced things myself that have formed my own opinion. I always feel happy in Spain, Italy, Scotland and Ireland for example. I always feel tense and unhappy in england. There is just more hostility and unkindness in england towards me. I am living here at the moment as I chose to work here. I thought it would be a good move but I haven't been happy here. So I am looking elsewhere. Life's too short to be miserable

I don’t it that wildly unusual. Certainly quicker and easier to say if you’re touring around and covering multiple countries in the former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Albania etc.than listing them.
