People from other countries - they’re just better than us, aren’t they?

I’m on holiday in the Balkans and like everytime I go overseas, it’s difficult not to conclude people from other countries are just better than us.

Immaculately kept, litter free, great service in bars and restaurants by experienced staff, polite well behaved kids eating out in restaurants, not a screen in sight. Everyone generally better looking, better dressed.

Or do I have rose tinted holiday goggles on?

I know that. My neighbour is Irish. He is great.

So stop being so fu#*ing rude to people on here. Look at your own behaviour. You harassed me for a long time

Do you not wonder why I am polite to him and not you? Have a think. At least he can push past colonial past and be nice.

Sigh. Whether Irish people are ‘great’ or not isn’t the issue.

The OP started a thread about how other nationalities were ‘better’ than British people. @Scarlettjune is agreeing, so why get upset with her?

Slightyamusedandsilly · Yesterday 09:47

Definitely. By a very long way.

There's a poster here who on a thread about GCSE maths said "what's the point of learning the area of a triangle"

Awfulinlaws · Yesterday 10:11

Rose tinted glasses and a holiday location.

I totally agree with this. I've just come back from 5days in Prague - where ALL public transport for over 65s is free. People were so friendly, nice and polite. Most of them (so shaming) spoke excellent English. Streets spotless. Likewise public transport, which is vv frequent. Myriad cafes and restaurants to lounge, linger, eat in. Good prices, cheaper than UK. Better quality food.
In '21-22 I lived a year in Kõln. Better quality of life all round. Working class level of society having a much better standard than similar over here. Quality of food in supermarkets much more varied. Fresh fruit/veg better/fresher. Brexit has much to answer for.

But you're talking about Prague not some scruffy little town in the middle nowhere, of course it will be lovely!

I wouldn't have a problem if it were the British and Northern Irish but she is only talking about the English. Also does she not wonder why other non English individuals can make friends with English but she can't. I am quite happy to give a list of stuff other countries do better than us though. You seem to be deliberately obtuse.

I’m not being remotely obtuse. Perhaps she’s only talking about English people, because she’s only ever lived in England? If I were to be making sweeping generalisations, good or bad, about a UK country, it would have to be England, where I spent 30 years living and working, rather than Wales or Scotland, where I’ve never lived.

I tjink they were pointing out that whatvis clssed as esssentisl knowledge in maths GCSE is not something most people will ever need in life and why cant maths lessons teach stuff that will be useful in life.

Is this the same Balkans people who were shooting one another into mass graves and committing horrendous war crimes in the 90s? Yes, I’ve always thought they were much better than us. Ffs

The wars of the 1990s were a terrible tragedy that affected millions of people. "They" - the people who suffered most -didn't bring it on themselves by being "not better" than you. What a vile way to make a throwaway punchline.

Britain is the absolute worst. It is why we have no immigration or tourism, absolutely no one wants to come here... oh wait...

I sometimes think people want to come here despite the natives...

Coffeeandbooks88 · Yesterday 10:23

Surprised at the no tourism comment? Americans love coming here for history or checking out their ancestors etc. We have loads of things worthy to see.

Maybe they feel they can fix the coldness by bringing some warmth, joy and great attitude into the mix. 😊

People are responding to scarlettjune because if you search her post history she barely posts anything other than whining about how dreadful England is. And given I'm pretty sure she's English herself, no wonder all the Greek barmen she encounters have a pretty low view of the English given she's hardly a ray of sunshine herself.

Such a lie.

I'm looking at my own posting history and I have posted on a vast variety of topics.

Was the thread where I was recommending a sunscreen, whining about England.

You're caught out in your lie

No I think that "cold" people are cold.

Where are you from? Would you like to show any kindness? Or are you going to show coldness like this post of yours is showing

Is it not that you're in a more relaxed frame of mind when holidaying in different countries, less stressed so see things more positive than what you do in the UK? Most holiday destinations seem lovely compared to the hustle & bustle of everyday life at home. I'm well travelled & see kids with Ipads/tablets all the time whilst abroad. As far as better dressed it's probably because they have their new holiday clothes on bought specially for their trip. I look totally different when I'm on holiday than what I do back home where you usually find me with baggy tshirts & joggers on.
