People from other countries - they’re just better than us, aren’t they?

I’m on holiday in the Balkans and like everytime I go overseas, it’s difficult not to conclude people from other countries are just better than us.

Immaculately kept, litter free, great service in bars and restaurants by experienced staff, polite well behaved kids eating out in restaurants, not a screen in sight. Everyone generally better looking, better dressed.

Or do I have rose tinted holiday goggles on?

It's always someone else's fault but " the English people that are nasty 's fault. Of course.

Do better.

I may have missed it but did you say where you are from Scarlettjune ?

We aren't like Americans. I think it just takes a bit of time and then we are fine. You haven't been to Yorkshire or Liverpool have you?

No I haven't. Obviously all Brits aren't the same and I've heard that people in the north are more friendly than southerners, I'm just stating my view from someone who lives outside the UK. There is a huge difference between being like Americans (who I actually find to be generally friendly and polite) and being cold.

On another thread she described herself as from the UK but apparently her work colleagues (in the UK) were mean to her because she's foreign. It's not clear tbh.

I’m American (also British and live in the UK). Trust me, we are not better. 90% of my American friends wish they had my dual citizenship and lived in the UK. I have lived in 4 countries as an adult. Very happy to have settled in the UK and would not want to raise my children in any of the others.

Ditto but Canadian.

So have you actually visited and met Brits here or just gone on hearsay?

MeAndStuart1981 · Yesterday 08:24

There's nothing wrong with being reserved and 'buttoned-up' as someone put it. And so what if I don't attend a funeral of someone vague from years ago or someone I don't know. I will send condolence to their next of kin, maybe flowers but depends on who it was.

Close family and friends are important to me and if that makes me cold, then so be it, but I would never mock someone else's choices.

I haven't visited, but there are plenty of Brits living here and yes, they are mostly friendly. However I am simply stating that, while some countries have reputations for being friendly and warm nations, Britain on the whole is not among those.

They are more likely to be described as whinging Poms, and that rings true in many cases, even amongst people I know - sorry if you don't like that!

Maybe from the north. My husband is Irish and he'd never say he was from the UK! Or describe himself as being a foreigner while in Brighton.

SlightlyAjar · Yesterday 08:46

It’s hilarious that, on a thread that was started to proclaim how all other nationalities are ‘better’ than British people, a non-Brit agreeing with the premise is being attacked.

Well then maybe you should visit especially the north and see what I am saying. I should say that a person who is more introvert isn't less friendly.

It isn't that which is being attacked. It is her blatant anti Englishness.

It was about the UK actually and not England. I didn't say we are better by the way. In fact I think the UK looks shit at the moment and I envy the likes of Spain. You just seem to be all about hating the English. I think actually all English could be friendly to you but you will still hate them. I think that guess was right.

It doesn’t matter where I’m from. I’m agreeing with the OP who started this thread. I’m not from one country I’m from a mixture of countries.

also I don’t think Irish people would like how you wrote “you are maybe Irish and just salty”. How dismissive! So Irish people are not allowed to have an opinion?

It’s strange how none of you are attacking the op but you are attacking me. Why is that? She wrote the same things.

Coffeeandbooks88 · Yesterday 09:00

You might want to go back to school if you think the UK/Britain is just England.

Again you fit nicely into the mean/cold/nasty stereotype don’t you?

no one thinks that the UK is just England.

Op is saying that people in other countries are better than in the UK. I have lived in England , so I am talking about my experiences of living in England. We all know that Welsh, Scottish and English cultures are very different

Bingo. The OP was being general about the UK but you are only talking about the English. It does matter if you are from a country who historically hate the English because then we can be friendly as we can be to you and you will still hate us.

I hope you sort out whatever issues you have because you sound unhappy. Cheerio.

Yes you have written that multiple times now. You do tend to repeat yourself. I could point out that it’s strange that you got offended when i write something negative about England, but you don’t get offended when the op writes something negative about the UK (which includes England).

How interesting! Why is that.?

I’m lovely and happy.

do something about your ego. Try to be less nasty, mean and cruel to people. Go on, you can do it! Let’s change people in England for the better one person at a time

The thing is it does matter where you are from. When your talking about mean, cold , nasty people in the UK it sounds very silly so I’m just trying to gage your angle and hidden biases.
