As pp have already said, this is different because of the origins of the money, and Sturgeon's role in the SNP.

They are connected because, whether or not it was legal, Sturgeon and Swinney did not want to provide information about how the money had been spent. It's much easier to hide embezzlement if you work for an organisation that already wants to fudge the figures.

I suspect the SNP as an organisation grew so fast that it never put in place the type of authorisations and audits that were required to manage a larger organisation.

These people were supposed to have the skills to run a country.

This is the kind of information that is normal in any small charity. It's the kind of information you would share with a board of governors in a a school. What is the point of appointing a treasurer and then denying him access to financial information?

Their annual turnover went from being less than £1 million to over £5 million in a short space of time.

Not particularly unusual and not at all unmanageable.

This might not make much sense to those outside Scotland, but I note that this image has been popular on Scottish social media over the past couple of days.

Colin Beatie was treasurer, not Nicola Sturgeon. And the Party Leader is not the “boss” of the Chief Exec, at least not in the way the SNP was set up. They are parallel senior roles.

One can however argue that they were and still are set up very badly as an organisation.

Reading that article, it's astonishing that they were being investigated for electoral fraud and making promises to spend £600k that they didn't have
