Parent went mental at my Ddog!

Can someone please tell me how Ddog was at fault here?! We were walking on a footpath close to our house earlier, and a woman was pushing her toddler along on a sort of bike thing.

As we were passing, the toddler dropped a cuddly toy. Ddog instinctively went to pick this up (it resembled a dog toy) and I stopped him.

The woman went mental, shouted at Ddog “NO, NO” and I hurried us away.

I can tell it has impacted him, he has been really subdued since which is not like him at all.

Am I wrong to think the woman should have had some restraint?

Why would you speak like that to a defenceless animal? He or she (not "it") will know from your tone that you were being horrible. Also, the dog might well recognise the word as a sign of aggression, since humans use it that way so often.

You only swore at it because you know it can't answer back. 😡

You don’t know what sarcasm means right?🤦🏻‍♀️

A mentalist is a clairvoyant.

Not an Alan Partridge fan, then ?

Lenny must be horribly traumatised - I swear at him quite frequently when he brings his friends in to play. 🤣

Lenny has a reprobate look. There is both awareness and lack of remorse in that look!

Animals have feelings just like humans, you know. I was reading a book about horses the other day, and there was an illustration of the way a horse stands if it's depressed. We are all mammals. If animals could talk, they would express just the same feelings as us! They get lonely, annoyed, angry, down, just like we do!

And, unlike people, animals aren’t arseholes (well most aren’t 😬) and they don’t deserve to be spoken to badly unless it’s necessary.

I could have written this.
I used to love dogs I had them as a child, I remember sobbing my heart out when my dog died. But they were always treated as dogs people always came first and we didn't insist on taking them everywhere with us.
People who treat their dogs like human children , and think their dogs rights are equal to or more important than people 's rights have made me dislike them.

I dislike anyone who thinks animals are less important than people. I am not that keen on dogs but I had an entertaining train journey which included a spaniel who was sitting on one of the seats (that should freak a few MNers out 🤣) and kept side eyeing the other passengers 🤣

Beats the screaming of young children any day.

Exactly - they don't deserve that! People are taking advantage of the fact that they don't understand. And it's still a form of aggression towards animals, even if not physical.

Having fun imagining a world where the animals can suddenly talk and ask the humans why they called them so many horrible names!

Never seen him. Don't know how - he was literally just never on TV when I switched it on! I didn't have my own TV until I was about 25 though.

Do you want Lenny to grow up and think it's OK to swear at people? 🤣

Imagine if all the animals COULD suddenly talk. The ones whose owners were always swearing at them would be right pottymouths!

I've read Saki's story Tobermory. If Lenny suddenly learnt how to talk I'd be seriously worried 🤣.

Edited

Absolutely! Unless an animal is attacking a person or another animal, then it’s vile.

Although if they could talk, our cats would probably ask why they have such looooooooong silly nicknames 😬

Well, there you go! You should be more careful. 🤭😂 Maybe science will come up with a way for animals to express themselves, and then you'd be in the shit! I bet there'd be no more swearing at poor Lenny then, would there???
