Threat to the King, in the US

Reallyneedsaholiday · 26/04/2026 17:56

Given that there was another “assassination attempt” on Trump, do you think that there is a threat to the safety of King Charles, during his State Visit to the US?
Either, the attempts are absolutely genuine, and therefore, there is a distinct lack of decent security surrounding these events, OR they are “staged” and the King could be an actual target, to garner support for Trump 🤔
(personal opinion, to be clear, is that the attempts have been staged and that poor man who died was “collateral damage”, hit at random, to gain support for “poor, targeted” Trump, which actually worked)
YABU - attempts have been genuine and the King would not be at risk
YANBU - the King should stay at home

If I was the King I’d use this as the perfect excuse not to go!

Youthinkyouareaniconoclast · 26/04/2026 18:03

Think it's a perfect get out clause for C3

LadyWiddiothethird · 26/04/2026 18:06

I cannot understand why he is going in the first place,he has gone down in my estimation for not declining the invitation.

Papyrophile · 26/04/2026 18:18

I think it is good that he is going, regardless of the shitstorms around politics. Charles III has more chance to talk sense to DJT than most.

I think he does as asked. So it's the government who have decided this is a good plan. KC is just following orders

Arlanymor · 26/04/2026 18:29

He's visiting on the advice of UKG - the Foreign Office will have spent weeks putting together an itinerary to support soft diplomacy talks. I don't think it's any more/less dangerous for him to go now than on any other day - anyone who has aimed a gun at Trump hasn't written a manifesto mentioning KCIII.

MasterBeth · 26/04/2026 18:32

The king should stay at home because this country shouldn't be cosying up to a mad authoritarian who dreams of being a king.

Also, we shouldn't have a king - the thing he dreams of being

Totally agree we shouldn't have a king - or any type of monarchy.

I don't have a lot of time for the RF but I'd say C3 is dreading it as much as we think it should be cancelled. Despite everything C3 has a brain, is cultured and polite. The shock the ordeal of having to be with a bad mannered moron like T must be filling him with absolute dread. So in that respect I do feel for him and Camilla.

I salute him for doing his job which is HOS and at the behest of the Government. It's the government that made the decision in the first place, so it would be up them to either cancel or postpone. Not going would enrage the baboon more than anything, so it's delicate, not to mention the diplomacy aspect aswell generally.

It's a tough one all round, but I am sure there are security elements well advanced and discussed. We don't know if he will have his own UK security detail, which I think he should, after all, the secret service accompanies the US President everywhere home and abroad and the President uses the big old nuclear bomb proof car on visits abroad doesn't he?

It's iffy just the same, I would not like to be C3 and Camilla at all TBH.

AnnaQuayRules · 26/04/2026 18:37

I never thought he should go, so the assassination attempts haven't changed my mind, but I think he should use it as an excuse not to go.

He will absolutely have his own security detail - they will fly with him, stay in the same hotel (including outside of his actual hotel room on shifts) and will travel with him everywhere he goes. They will be there for everything.

storminabuttercup · 26/04/2026 18:39

i don’t think he should go for many reasons, don’t think he’s at risk as such

but with the bat shittery coming from trump I wouldn’t put it past him to stage something similar and the US ‘rescues’ the king …….

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 26/04/2026 19:01

I’ve just had a notification from Sky News that the Kings visit will go ahead

Its a Parliamentary decision.

I think that Trump and his team will take advantage of the visit to ckaim it implies royal support for his Presidency, regardless of what is actually said during the visit.

I cannot understand, how people, have such little knowledge, on how a constitutional monarchy works. The king is HoS, but he does what the U.K. government instructs him to do. It’s his job.

Mcdhotchoc · 26/04/2026 19:08

The King should stay home but simply because he shouldn't be visiting a country with detention camps holding people who happen to not be white.

Omg never thought of that... let's hope the orange toddler doesn't either because that is right up his street.

Riapia · 26/04/2026 20:15

Actually body doubles are being used in place of the king and queen.

I’d love that to be true
Do you think Trump would notice if we sent the waxworks from Madame Tussaud’s? 😂 They won’t be able to get a word in edgeways anyway, so the silence wouldn’t be a problem 🤔😂

I genuinely believe he’s more likely to get the King shot, and blame the Democrats

I served as an Officer in the Army,so have plenty of knowledge about the Royal Family.Should he not want to go,he is capable of refusing, this is NOT about running the country, which he can not interfere with.

How wonderful for you to be so knowledgeable! Which you clearly are not! An I suggest you do a little more research before showing your ignorance.

No one is going to talk sense to Trump at this stage in his life. Some of the most respected people in the United States (gen. Kelly, gen. Mattis, etc) and all it’s done is make them targets for retaliation
