Threat to the King, in the US

Reallyneedsaholiday · 26/04/2026 17:56

Given that there was another “assassination attempt” on Trump, do you think that there is a threat to the safety of King Charles, during his State Visit to the US?
Either, the attempts are absolutely genuine, and therefore, there is a distinct lack of decent security surrounding these events, OR they are “staged” and the King could be an actual target, to garner support for Trump 🤔
(personal opinion, to be clear, is that the attempts have been staged and that poor man who died was “collateral damage”, hit at random, to gain support for “poor, targeted” Trump, which actually worked)
YABU - attempts have been genuine and the King would not be at risk
YANBU - the King should stay at home

It seems like Trump has better security in other countries than his own. I realise lots of people hate Trump (as do I) but his security look pretty shite if he can have two attempted assassinations in two years. Those blokes shouldn't have got anywhere near him.

As much of a lefty as I am I do feel for KC3 and the Queen having to grin and bear it this week and having security issues dumped on top.

IncompleteSenten · 26/04/2026 21:57

Charles will be perfectly safe. I don't think even trump's staff full of yes men would arrange someone to take a potshot at him.

There's no benefit to trump in doing that.

If I was the King I’d use this as the perfect excuse not to go!

I cannot understand why he is going in the first place,he has gone down in my estimation for not declining the invitation.

I'm no fan of the monarchy but you can't blame the king for doing the bidding of the British government - that's his job!

Nobody died?

The king should stay at home because this country shouldn't be cosying up to a mad authoritarian who dreams of being a king.

Also, we shouldn't have a king - the thing he dreams of being

So he should stay home because people dont want the monarch to actually do the job that they are meant to do?

What on earth should they be doing then?

It’s a state visit to celebrate the 250 years since American independence.
It’s got sweet FA to do with the current president.

I think it is good that he is going, regardless of the shitstorms around politics. Charles III has more chance to talk sense to DJT than most.

Exactly, the royals aren't meant to get involved in politics. I hope he'll survive the experience though!

Oh I see. Apologies. I thought you meant this time.

NeelyOHara · Yesterday 06:10

He might as well go, Charles won’t have long in the job and this could be a chance to actually maybe do something useful.

I served as an Officer in the Army,so have plenty of knowledge about the Royal Family.Should he not want to go,he is capable of refusing, this is NOT about running the country, which he can not interfere with.

How wonderful for you to be so knowledgeable! Which you clearly are not! An I suggest you do a little more research before showing your ignorance.

Maybe he could refuse. But as it’s his job, maybe he feels he can’t. Maybe he feels he can talk sense into the orange one’s head. Personally I’d have used it as an excuse not to go, but he’s probably been told he has to, so off he trots.

he is going but I find it quite nerve wracking
as I am sure William and Edward do

Yes but that was more luck than judgement. If the guy who took a bullet to the vest had taken one to the head instead fi.

Andrew probably is 💅

I'm rather hoping that Trump will say something so outrageously inappropriate that even his closest supporters become aware of just what an idiot he is, and just how dangerous he is.

Oh I know, but I don't underestimate Trump's ability to wildly overstep the mark. His supporters are starting to have doubts. I want him to really dig his own grave.

There’s no of course about it - BP absolutely should have refused. Trump is a vile bully and cosying up to him is achieving precisely nothing 🤬

millymollymoomoo · Yesterday 07:47

The royals are a risk anywhere they go all the time. Part of their role is travelling. That’s why they have huge tax payer funded protection,

he should go

AuntChippy · Yesterday 07:48

He should go.

Charles won’t give up this chance to boost his own ego and be the saviour between Trump and the UK
