To be fed up with the barrage of weight loss drug content I am exposed to

I am on Instagram and Facebook and am constantly bombarded with weight loss drug content. I followed a great influencer who I never thought was overweight and now have seen her post she can fit into a size 8 in Zara and her life is infinitely better, I read post after post that these drugs not only made people lose weight - they cured heart disease, IBS etc etc! I see it everywhere, women are just turning into clones of each other - Botox, fillers, the same beige legging combo and now super skinny. How has this drug been allowed to be advertised so widely without any consideration to the damage this is doing to women and young girl’s mental health? Surely people are only being cured of these conditions because they’re not eating all the unhealthy stuff (which can only be a good thing) but this lifetime living in a state of malnutrition (the post I read the other day had user after user saying how they felt dizzy when they stood up) is not healthy! Even if you do exercise - you won’t be getting nutrients. Or is it all sunbeams and moonbeams and should I think about going on it to lose the last stone I want (the fact I am a size 12 and wouldn’t be allowed to go on it because my BMI is normal yet a friend used it to loose weight and now will stay on it until to maintain her size 6-8 frame seems wild. Yet I would love to be a size 8 and I wouldn’t be allowed it) the whole thing seems a joke to me. Am I unreasonable? Is it the unicorn of drugs? And if it’s that safe why can’t I go on it?

very good friend of mine is a dr , and I asked him a leading question a few weeks ago

"So what do you think of all these weight loss drugs then??"

fully expecting him to launch into a rant, but he said "I think it's genius."

After i picked my jaw up from the table he explained some of them are newer and he would be less inclined to take but other more established ones have been used for years in other conditions.

I am still going to try and shed my weight without them though....

AlexaStopAlexaNo · 17/04/2026 08:38

Honestly you sound like someone who wants them but can’t get them.

pinkpeonytuesday · 17/04/2026 08:39

@TheGoldenOwlif that’s the case why can’t I get them to lose my final stone? I find it bizarre you can go on them and loose more and more weight forever, with no end in sight! Yet, I will have to use good old will power and normal weight loss programmes. Doesn’t make logical sense!

My social media is bombarding me with adverts about fencing/gardening services. So I must be doing something wrong!

RockyRoadTastesGood · 17/04/2026 08:39

You’re seeing them because you engage with them. All I see is arts and crafts because that’s what I engage with. Stop clicking on that content and start searching for and engaging with better content and your problem will eventually go away.

pinkpeonytuesday · 17/04/2026 08:40

@AlexaStopAlexaNoi just said that! I don’t want them but i do think the barrage of adverts has made me question my worth at my current weight! If the rest of you who have taken them are flaunting about as a size 8 whilst doing nothing but inject yourself, why can’t I?

I think a lot of people are getting them privately.

pinkpeonytuesday · 17/04/2026 08:41

@ThirdStormhaha! Will start search for hot gardeners and crafts! I do search for healthy meal plans so maybe that’s why!

OP posts:
pinkpeonytuesday · 17/04/2026 08:41

@TheGoldenOwloh 💯 and by putting the wrong details in to get them!

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 17/04/2026 08:43

You can get them, but privately as you don’t suffer from obesity.

I will wonder about your claim that there’s only a stone between you at size 12 and a size 8. Speaking personally for me (who did suffer from obesity) there was 3 stone between those 2 sizes.

JacknDiane · 17/04/2026 08:44

Or maybe the op can't afford them?
I think they are becoming the new class divide.

You can get them? Most people pay for them you know. And aren’t always honest about their starting weight. There’s very strict criteria to get it on the nhs and most people aren’t eligible.
You sound a bit bitter, OP. I think these drugs are a game changer and will save lives long term. And I say this as someone who’s a size ten and doesn’t need them!

SilenceInside · 17/04/2026 08:46

If you engage with content you will be delivered with more content that’s the same. Maybe it’s time for a change in who you follow? Find some other influencers who are more your kind of thing and unfollow the ones you find problematic. You can also report content that is directly mentioning a prescription only medication as it is against the law to advertise specific POM. Eg

https://news.sky.com/story/children-need-protection-from-dangerous-appearance-changing-products-online-commissioner-says-13505806

If you want to take WLI then you are absolutely free to try to obtain them at your weight. If you want to lie to get them fraudulently then that’s a decision that only you can make. No one, no influencer, should be able to make you take those decisions in a way that you’re not comfortable with. The whole world of “influencers” is just full of total bullshit though and surely as an adult you realise that?

JacknDiane · 17/04/2026 08:46

I must admit, some friends who are nurses rave about them and others say they wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Its really hard who to listen to.

pinkpeonytuesday · 17/04/2026 08:46

@LaurieFairyCakei weight 10 stone. I fit size 10-12. If I lost a stone I’d fit a size 8-10! I don’t even need to lose weight I think I’m mentally just thinking I do because I have no idea what is a healthy body anymore x

pinkpeonytuesday · 17/04/2026 08:48

@Aquarius91i am bitter. Because I find as a woman I’m constantly told by the media and other celebs I’m not good enough! Maybe time to grow out my greys, embrace the tummy and live as I want (I’m all for being positive etc just must be a weak person as I let it get to me sometimes) x

@JacknDianethere is something to be said that the more money you have the more you can lose weight, look youthful, etc etc very easily! Thank god I have a good personality, one thing money can’t buy 😂😂😁

Really?? Then I would suggest a social media detox if you can’t think for yourself any more. If your BMI is in the healthy range for your height then you don’t need to lose weight for health reasons. If you don’t like your shape then exercise is your friend. Trying to conform to trends about body shape is a fools game.

TheGoldenOwl · 17/04/2026 08:40

I think a lot of people are getting them privately.

Of course they are getting them privately! It’s extremely difficult to get them prescribed by the NHS.

pinkpeonytuesday · 17/04/2026 08:54

@SilenceInsideyes! I probably do. It is so toxic! I do strength training four times a week and lots of walks! Think I’ve got body dysmorphia from it all!

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 17/04/2026 08:58

@TheGoldenOwl over 90% of people using WLI legitimately will be getting a private prescription, very few meet the extra NHS criteria. You don’t just buy them, no questions asked. You get a prescription after a consultation from an online pharmacy. Now of course some people will lie and deceive those pharmacies and may get away with it, doesn’t mean they should be.

Other people might be getting unknown substances from the black market. Clearly that’s a terrible idea.

THisbackwithavengeance · 17/04/2026 09:00

You’re not wrong OP. It is “unfair” in many ways. But think of the money you don’t have to spend and if you knuckle down, you can lose a stone.

My friend came off Mounjaro and is already sadly piling weight back on so unless you’re prepared to shell out for the drugs indefinitely then they’re not without issues.

PaddingtonEmu · 17/04/2026 09:01

YANBU

People advertising weight loss drugs to people in the UK are committing a criminal offence; it is an offence to advertise POM to the public.

pinkpeonytuesday · 17/04/2026 09:05

@SilenceInsidethe person I know put in wrong details to get it apparently. I don’t have any problem with people using it to lose considerable weight. I can’t imagine the will power to be able to do that I can’t even lose a stone. BUT the problem for me is they continue to lose it until they are skeletal. And then won’t get off it as they are scared to put on weight! But I am also just jealous it seems such an easy fix haha!!!
