Cake-gate at work

EnfysDilys · 31/03/2026 18:43

I made some Easter cakes for work colleagues today, enough for everyone with a few to spare.
One woman ate eight! She cheerfully announced this in front of everyone at lunchtime. This meant not everyone had one.
WIBU next time to leave a note reminding her to share! Or hiding them from her? Or setting an alarm around them …

This is just an MN thing

It really isn't. I'd never eat anything made by a colleague.

I would have been furious

jdb9803 · 01/04/2026 19:00

I would send a message apologising to anyone that didn't get a cake - there was enough to go round but XX took 8.
If you bake again for colleagues, keep them with you, send a message for people to come get one - if XX has the nerve to come, tell her she has already had her share

In our school we took turns to take in cakes on a Friday. We'd leave them in the staffroom first thing. It came to our notice that the teacher in the room opposite was nipping in and helping herself to many cakes.
I started keeping mine in my classroom and my PSA would take them through just before breaktime.

Some people are just greedy pigs.

And would I be right in thinking that, when it came to her turn to bring in cakes, she would either 'forget' or bring in a tiny pack of the cheapest ones for everybody - or bring in a goodly amount, take a photo to share with everybody and then instantly swipe 90% of them straight back again?

BambinaCucina · 01/04/2026 19:03

If there's one thing above all others that I can't abide, it's greed. And gloating when they've truffled half the amount and others had missed out. .

Beastieboys · 01/04/2026 19:04

It's not always the larger people !
Where I worked it was sneaky people who waited til the coffee room was empty and sneak in. They never bring anything in but are happy to stuff cakes and chocolates into themselves two at a time 😶

Skyelils · 01/04/2026 19:05

She’s just a 🐷 and selfish not thinking of others

Lainie · 01/04/2026 19:12

could you send an e mail asking who didnt get one as you are doing a new batch, then bring them in in small cellophane bags and hand them to those that went without and dont let her near them, greedy pig :(

Hellohelga · 01/04/2026 19:13

Greedy and revolting.

For a staff of 30,over 3 breaktimes, she probably brought enough for 10 people.

JulietteHasAGun · 01/04/2026 19:49

Did you make them will All Bran? Maybe she thinks it’s just like a large bowl of cereal? 😄

Nickynackynoooo · 01/04/2026 19:51

I once made chocolate cupcakes for a colleagues birthday in cute little cardboard cases, with a big swirl of chocolate butter cream and a milk tray chocolate plonked on each one.
I sneaked in the multi-occupancy office the night before after everyone had left for the day and set them up on her desk in a large cupcake stand to create an impressive surprise.
The next day, she took them all home with her.
True story, she's left now, but we still talk about it now.

Lol! Is she a large lady?

And the difference this makes is?! Smaller people do actually eat like pigs!

3luckystars · 01/04/2026 20:06

It doesn’t matter who ate them, you made them for other people to make them
happy. There is no need to be angry, you have no control over them once you give them away.

She is really greedy but once you gave them away, you gave them away.

Daftypants · 01/04/2026 20:08

Greedy !! hope she has chipped a tooth on one of the mini eggs 😉

Winderwall · 01/04/2026 20:11

I LOVE cake but I would take one and then spend the rest of the day trying to ignore the voice in my head telling me to eat another.

pimplebum · 01/04/2026 20:12

MyLimeGuide · 31/03/2026 18:47

Fuck off with your fat shaming - its not a joke

do better

Judecb · 01/04/2026 20:12

Next time you do this, put a sign on the plate "ONE each (her name)" ! 😅

pimplebum · 01/04/2026 20:27

Is there any chance she was joking ?

its the sort of thing id say thinking i was cracking a joke and miss read the room and a whole bunch of office colleagues now hate me because of my “ off beat” sense of humour

id double check before putting laxatives in a special one just for her

BigButtons · 01/04/2026 20:36

I work in a primary school and we have one of these people on staff- literally has massive food issues and brazenly eats all the stuff out on the table- she even eats the bread and crackers meant for the children/ we mentioned it early on in the year when she removed pretty well all the purple quality street from a large tin in one go. She went to management and said she was being picked on. We hide the communal biscuits now/

usedtobeaylis · 01/04/2026 21:29

I really wouldn't care tbh, I wouldn't preciously want to make sure everyone had exactly one, and I wouldn't really care if I didn't get one because someone else ate more. I take a certain kind of biscuit into work and sometimes don't get one myself but it's not that big a deal.

Londonrach1 · 01/04/2026 21:31

Take it she got an eating problem as that's not normal unless just greedy

ChocolateAddictAlways · 01/04/2026 21:33

EnfysDilys · 31/03/2026 18:53

They were Easter nest cakes 🐣 when she announced she’d had eight, a fair few people said they’d not had one cos they’d all gone, she just said she’d enjoyed them! 🤣

Oh my that's so cheeky. Feels a bit shameless tbh!

pouletvous · 01/04/2026 21:33

Greedy cow

8?
