Cake-gate at work

EnfysDilys · 31/03/2026 18:43

I made some Easter cakes for work colleagues today, enough for everyone with a few to spare.
One woman ate eight! She cheerfully announced this in front of everyone at lunchtime. This meant not everyone had one.
WIBU next time to leave a note reminding her to share! Or hiding them from her? Or setting an alarm around them …

Eating everyone else's cakes does warrant public humiliation
I can’t believe that you actually think this.
At what point does a punishment get sanctioned? What if some colleagues ate two of them? What is an appropriate punishment for eating easter nests that were left in an office for people to help themselves to?

At the point of eating more than your allocation, unless given to you by someone else. So OK for Ima Scoffer to eat 8 cakes if they were given to her by 8 colleagues on diets. I think that's fair.

Maybe punishment could be time allocated: 2 cakes = 2 hours of public humiliation. 8 cakes = 8 hours of public humiliation (overtime not included).

So many questions! Some suggestions include being displayed on Teams for the time duration hold up a sign saying 'I am greedy. I am selfish.' or there was the pelting with cupcakes... rolled in honey and covered in cake sprinkles and licked but this sounds like too much like fun!

T1Dmama · 03/04/2026 13:28

I’d keep them covered on your desk and then go round everyone at tea break and ask if they’d like one. I’d go to the cake muncher who took eight last deliberately and hand her ONE!

Jeska7 · 04/04/2026 21:47

How rude and greedy! She obviously wasn’t even bothered or think it was a problem if she told everyone. Some people are clueless. Maybe have a quiet word next time to say you’ve made enough for everyone so one each! (Maybe say people can have more than one after a certain time in the afternoon)

Katie0909 · 05/04/2026 10:43

She was incredibly rude and selfish. I think you should speak to her privately and tell her she was out of order taking so many and leaving others without one. She will just carry on doing it if nobody ever calls her out.

It was very nice of you to make cakes for work coleagues. Once they were put on the table they weren't any of your concern any more, in the sense that you had no control over who had any. I understand your disappointment as not everone being given the opportunity to get one, that wasn't your fault. It's a tricky one, isn't it? Let it go this time. If there is a next time, maybe a sign to say that you made x number of cakes for x number of colleagues and you hope that everyone gets to taste one, but be quicj bexause they won't last long, ie add in a bit of humour.

COBRA Cabinet Office Briefing Room A

It works well until the A, which seemed rather contrived and just tacked on the end to make it into a word.

A bit like the name 'pelican' crossing: it officially stands for Pedestrian Light Controlled, with the 'an' at the end representing... errrrrm, aaaah, ummmm...

Nope, it's because there are other briefing rooms.

Isn't it interesting how nobody ever seems to mention meetings taking place in COBRB, COBRC or COBRD, though? Grin

They do, but not the most important highly classified meetings

I wonder if those who attend them just mention them by spelling all of the letters out? Although COBRD might be known for simplicity as 'cob-bread'?!

They just say cobra

So they are just going for something memorable and easy to say, rather than bothering about accuracy... as I originally said?!

Not that it matters really, but if they're convening in Cabinet Office Briefing Room D over an important but not top-billing matter, why on earth would they refer to it as a 'COBRA' meeting if not simply that 'cobra' is easier to say than 'cobrd'?!

I think the top level Cabinet meetings are always in A and there are no similar rooms with the same facilities.

ThishittyLimeCat · 08/04/2026 14:42

I'd be saying something at the time of her announcement, what a greedy cow. Not even a man would have 8, so is she like that normally? If you choose to do it again, give them one each, if any spare ask the others first.

Gossipisgood · 15/04/2026 12:29

Greedy Cow! Next time leave a little note next to the plate of cakes saying 'remember to share. One per person so there's enough for everyone to enjoy '
