Woman went ballistic at me in the gym

My gym had a big refurb recently, all brand new kit etc and it is really nice.

The issue is that there’s now very little ‘free’ space where you can place mats and do work on these.

The only space is directly in front of 3 of the machines (chest press etc) where there is a mirrored wall, there’s room for about 3 people to be working on mats in a row and the machines are about a metre away. This space is intended for mat work and it’s where they are hung up.

Yesterday, I was working out on one of the mats with ear pods in. There was a man using the machine directly behind me.

After being there for about 5 minutes, I noticed a woman walk over to me so took my ear pods out. She started ranting at me saying I was trying to get her boyfriends attention and why was I being so attention seeking by exercising right in front and ‘bending over’.

I quite firmly explained I was using the space as intended. She kept going on and then said I can do what I want because ‘she’ll be the one fucking him tonight’.

The man was silent throughout and once she finished going on, they walked off together.

Another member nearby came up to me and checked I was okay.

I’ve told a couple of people this today with mixed views - one thinks I probably shouldn’t have been there and it’s a stupid design, and the other says the woman was out of order.

Would welcome any views - it’s a hotel gym with regular members and I didn’t recognise them so am hoping they were guests and I won’t see her again.

Look him up on social media and slide into his DMs 🤣🤣🤣

ItsGooodToTalk · 23/03/2026 23:29

So sorry this happened to you. If you do happen to see them again, please report. That woman is bonkers, and the man should have stopped her.

Cherryicecreamx · 23/03/2026 23:30

Gosh she made a right show of herself. Saying she'll be the one f** him! How embarrassing for her. I would have wanted to tell staff even just to point out the issue of where the mats are located.

JennaR · 23/03/2026 18:20

I didn’t say anything to staff at the time because the woman left and I’m not sure what they could have done.

Identified her and cancelled her membership if she was a member and not a guest?

Logged the incident as evidence they need better security/supervision?

Ask them to consider moving machines around so there's more mat space?

I just find it weird that it bothered you enough to start a thread on here but not to take any action at the time!

BlackthornBlossom · 24/03/2026 06:53

Haha since people are sharing their crazy gym stories, the gym I went to in my 20's had a woman who worked out in full makeup. She wore short shorts and tended to occupy the leg machines which faced the mirrors. She didn't wear pants so every time she opened her legs, she flashed her fanny! 😂 Blatantly on purpose...

Unless you were doing this sort of thing, I think the woman was pretty damn unhinged.

Content designed to get engagement (likes, clicks, comments, shares). Could be based on drama, outrage, vagueness, controversy, factual inaccuracy, shock value and whatever will get traction.

Sounds like our local parish church choir😆

ScarlettSarah · 24/03/2026 07:11

Hilarious that she thought her boyfriend was so desirable that you just couldn't help yourself.

Offshore111 · 24/03/2026 07:46

Omg sounds like she’s a loon and insecure. I had a similar situation when a lady in the changing rooms asked if I deliberately picked leggings that went see through when I bent over to show off my thong for attention or I was just unaware. Ofcourse I was unaware and like thanks for telling me but there’s a far nicer way to do that.

Oh gosh! Not wearing pants at the gym should be a no go, think of the sweat and everything, I hope she wiped down the machine afterwards

Blakeley · 24/03/2026 07:51

She sounds insecure, obviously has a reason to think her boyfriend would consider another woman. Report the incident they will have cameras. I would raise the logistical nightmare of the space with the management aswell

AzureFinch · 24/03/2026 08:46

You should have just come onto her. Say no babe i was trying to get your attention!

BlokeHereInPeace · 24/03/2026 09:25

Yeah, written complaint to the gym, stating the time. They'll have CCTV, probably without sound but it'll be enough. You are paying your subs and deserve to be treated appropriately.

But it does sound like potential content for her or someone who has set it up with her.

Suedoh · 24/03/2026 10:02

I pity the boyfriend, what an embarrassment

I second that! She sounds like a complete loon!

LHP118 · 24/03/2026 14:14

Simply put, the woman is out of order.
She should get her BF to another gym and equipment away from a designated mat area.

Not your circus 🎪. Not your monkey 🐵

😁

Banannanana · 24/03/2026 14:34

I’d have just called her a loon. Sounds a healthy relationship….

Bambiwithlonglegs · 24/03/2026 17:49

Obviously insecure 😂😂😂

The staff should have been more on the ball and stepped in sooner, rather than waiting until it was over to come to you. I’d definitely make a complaint—they should have done more.

If it happens again (hopefully it doesn’t), tell them to move—it’s their problem, not yours.

Ginburee · 24/03/2026 17:57

You did NOTHING wrong, her insecurities, her problem.

Ha ha ha are you serious? How insecure is she to actually come out and say something like that? She’ll be doing him tonight? You crack on crazy lady; nobody else wants him anyway. Far from you showing off your body and ‘bending over’, you are just using the gym to exercise, what it is for. Nobody should be looking at you or making you uncomfortable. If crazy lady thought her boyfriend was looking at you, she should have had a go at him, why are you perving on the ladies. But maybe she wouldn’t say that to him. Because she would be worried to lose him. Because he belittles her and makes her feel terribly insecure about herself. And maybe he cheated on her on the past, and told her it was her fault. So she takes her insecurity out on others.

Trust me, you might as well have not been in the gym at all. That whole thing going on there was nothing to do with you, and everything to do with her, and her boyfriend. Just let the gym know because her drama aside, you have the right to use the gym in peace and quiet without being interrupted or harassed.

dcthatsme · 24/03/2026 18:04

She’s off her rocker!

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 23/03/2026 21:59

Blimey, yes. I used to go to a hotel health club as a member and there was some properly lunatic behaviour. My favourite was swimming with just one other woman one day and wherever I was in the pool she was virtually on top of me. Eventually I asked her to stay over one side and I'd stay the other. She started shouting that she only got this close because she didn't want people near her Grin

They walk - and swim - amongst us.

As for Little Miss Loony Tunes and her "I'll be the one fucking him tonight", I'd have been tempted to pat Mr Loony Tunes on the head and say "You poor thing, dear. Never mind, chin up!".

And then I'd report her to the management.

It's not just health clubs. I've been a member at a variety of gyms/pools over the years, from DL to Pure Gym. All full of weirdos!

Some "highlights":

Girls doing their warm up stretches on the floor of the changing room, looking annoyed when you stepped over them to get to your locker.

Woman stood stark naked blow drying her (to be fair, very bouffant) pubes.

Girls annoyed that using the hair dryer (for my head hair!) was disrupting their conversation/live tiktok stream

Man swimming in circles in full flippers and scuba gear at the bottom of a (shallow) pool.

Man literally undertaking (i.e. swimming UNDER me) in lanes

(Different) people shaving their legs in the jacuzzi and lathering up their body wash in the steam room.

People running/walking backwards on the treadmills (assume this is now a 'thing' as seen it quite often).

Wearing everything from skin coloured/see through leggings, scrunched bum shorts, jeans, puffer coat, hoodie pulled up over their head, flip flops, to exercise.

And possibly the weirdest of the lot, a guy who had stuck several sheets of blue paper (the cheap sort in big rolls often used to clean up spills) between his headphones and his ears Confused.

And these were just the things that struck me as noticeably odd, rather than just annoying/gross like the loud grunters, people spending ten times longer 'resting' between sets (playing on their phone) than actually working out, GenZ filming content, men jumping straight into the pool from the sauna/steam room still gleaming with sweat (boak)...

YelramBob · 24/03/2026 18:12

I miss the old days in gyms when people just went to work out and there were little screens on the walls playing MTV 😭

I've always said, in my next life I'm going to open a gym which will be the BEST gym ever. There will be so many rules and if anyone breaks them they will be instantly ejected and banned for life 🚫 😁

MrsGrumpyKnickers · 24/03/2026 18:14

Wow she sounds incredibly insecure about her relationship, whilst also judging you by her own standards! Maybe that’s how she attracts her men?! Apart from reporting her, don’t give it another thought.

Who actually does something like that , hopefully you’ll never have to see her again .
Being honest she should get barred .
Make sure you complain her

It’s worth saying something. They probably have CCTV. My dh had a run in with a weird guy in the gym and the staff gave the guy a warning after spotting it on CCTV. I would reconsider being a member of that gym if that’s the kind of customer they have.
