and humanity's seeming inability to live in peace

Not unreasonable exactly to feel disappointed but “heartbroken” is a bit strong.

Thecows · 05/03/2026 08:57

It is fairly heartbreaking tbf

Tutorpuzzle · 05/03/2026 09:03

Well, apart from changing the word ‘humanity’s’ to ‘men’s’, I heartily agree with your post.

These warmongers all have wife's. Are they unable to have any influence on them at all? I could not live with myself, if I was married to any of these Men.

Rightsraptor · 05/03/2026 09:18

Maybe they do have wives, LadyKenya, but how much do you think they'd listen to them? Plus, you're assuming these wives share your views based on what - commonality of sex? Nah, we see plenty of women behaving worse than men all the time.

None of us should feel we carry this weight on our shoulders. Put the burden down and carry on with your own life.

feellikeanalien · 05/03/2026 09:19

I was thinking this yesterday when I finally managed to get out for a walk in the country in the sunshine. It was so lovely and I just found it so sad thinking of all the things going on in the world.

Having said that I don't think that this is anything new. We just have it fed to us 24/7 because of technology. Years ago we probably wouldn't even have been aware of some of the things that were happening.

I was reading about the Highland Clearances and the clans in Scotland the other day and life then was brutal. I think that because we live in the way we do in the west we are cushioned to the realities of what goes on elsewhere in much of the world. It doesn't take much for so called civilised societies to break down. You only have to look at what happened in the Balkans in the 90s.

I think all that you can do is try to get on with your life. You can't stop what is happening but you have to try to not let it overwhelm you. I am getting old now and have got to the stage where I have seen so many things in my life that I think you have to try and accept that it is always likely to be this way. Powerful men like to dominate and that will never change.

Not in any of the many many countries where women are viewed as second class and lesser, no.

Men. We give them their lives. In return all they seem to want to be is big poo-flinging monkeys.

itsthetea · 05/03/2026 09:21

The thing is we have written history and we can see that war solves nothing and usually just breeds more war and violence but we are stuck on repeat by egotistic men who disrespect women ( and men ) who see the world differently

Mischance · 05/03/2026 09:22

I read only the headlines - I cannot absorb the horror of al, that is going on - and yes it is heartbreaking.

Nothing changes: greed, misogyny, war-mongering, inhumanity, religious bigotry - I fear for my GC.

I try and concentrate on the wonderful view from my window of the rolling Welsh hills in order to inject some sanity and peace into my life.

Many of the regimes with issues are run by misogynistic men who believe woman’s place is shackled to the kitchen sink and certainly won’t listen to them.

Skybunnee · 05/03/2026 09:32

There have always been wars -apart from the obvious , the Spanish civil war, the Korean War, the Biafran. Ongoing African wars.
Sadly Britain decided to put money into social care and not the army so when nutters decide to bomb somewhere we can only sit on the sidelines clutching our pearls, when with arms and army we might have had a stabling influence or any influence.

CharSiu · 05/03/2026 09:38

It’s not new it’s just easier to find out, there have been brutal wars and conflicts forever. My baby aunt died when my family were escaping the Japanese and suffered under communism in mainland China. DH Grandfather was scarred for life having landed on the beaches at D Day. I know DH ancestors were Huguenots that fled France when they were persecuted.

Apart from the occasional Angela Merkel and Margaret Thatchers of this world men have run the world forever.

Britain decided to put money into rich men’s pockets

Sadly the human species has an affinity for evil. History is littered with atrocity after atrocity (mongal empire, crusades, slave trade, Cambodian killing fields, king Leopards empire in Congo, Rwanda, srebrenica, etc, etc). All in the name of greed and power. It'll continue until we as a species cease to exist.

If you can stop watching the news..

I agree it’s very depressing
all these war and power hungry men

it seems part of our dna is trying to control others then when that fails its war etc

and various women in history have also been war focused

MoodyMargaret11 · 05/03/2026 15:51

I hate it too. Incomprehensible and senseless, with no sight of change. There'll always be new tyrants and terrorists swallowing up entire countries and governments. I wish we didn't have to worry about wars or violence, and instead could put all our focus and resources on helping each other and creating a beautiful planet.

Miranda65 · 05/03/2026 15:56

There have been wars throughout human history. Of course, we don't like them but, after all these thousands of years, we do need to accept that they are completely normal.

Are you for real? Do you have any idea how oppressive to women a lot of these regimes are? You think they have a voice and any sway in what these men are doing?

Goldfsh · 05/03/2026 15:59

No YANBU. What I find depressing at the moment is that it is the US just bombing the shit BECAUSE IT CAN. It genuinely feels like that. Maybe it is driven by religious/end times Christian fundamentalism. But it makes me despair of humanity. We are awful and a plague upon the planet.

ginasevern · 05/03/2026 15:59

Human kind has been bashing eachother's brains in since pre-history. There will never be an end to war or killing. Another tribe will always have something we need or want. We are part of the animal kingdom and this is how it works.
