Every time I switch the news on I wonder what men have been up to today.

I started to feel like this lately, but I really desist. I'm in my late 30s and the world has been this way for my entire living memory. Yes. It is depressing and it is also very sobering to concede to the fact we have so very little real control over things that significantly impact our lives.

If I allowed myself to get to a heartbroken stage, I would find it hard to find a way to enjoy life and it would consume me. This I do have control over and refuse to part with my autonomy over how much I let things get to me.

Ultimately it's terrible but humanity has forever been this way. This isn't a new fangled thing.

I grew up with the media always talking about the four minute warning and leaflets being sent showing what to do in the event of a nuclear war.

We’ve had wars since time immemorial so I don’t know why anyone thinks it should be different now . People need to accept that this hearts and flowers and be kind bollocks is keeping us unsafe . History has always been survival of the fittest and the current efforts to bolster the ‘ vulnerable’ are futile . We need to put money into defence and quickly .

It is actually heart-breaking, utterly heart-breaking. And while it's an ugly part of being human, this penchant for self destruction, the beautiful part of being human and being alive, that ethical and compassionate part of us, is what gives us hope.

I met up with a new friend today at a great café on the riverside. The sun was shining and several other friends were there so lots of catching up and introducing. Very nice.

I think I'm angry more than anything else. This has all kicked off literally because of a petty, venal old man and his fratboy minions thinking they are so tough and so clever they can put the whole world at risk to distract from the petty, venal old man's crimes.
