Anyone else think this could be the prelude to ww3. It’s like everything’s been put in place, the stage is now set? Hope I’m wrong.

Let's hope not, but I have my doubts. It could easily spread and all the nutty leaders around the world are watching. I just pray for all the people

LoveSandbanks · 01/03/2026 14:51

Oh ffs, talk about catastrophizing. No, I’m not remotely worried. It’s hardly the first time there’s been unrest in the ME without it turning into WW3

Nothing we can do about it anyway.

DestinedToBeOutlived · 01/03/2026 14:52

People have been saying this about every war that's started in my lifetime, and will continue to say it for every war that will start too.

Realistically worrying will get you nowhere, we can't do anything about it, so it's just wasted energy at this point.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 01/03/2026 14:53

It’s an absolute shit show. I can’t really comprehend it.

ilovesooty · 01/03/2026 14:54

What's the point of getting worried about something you can do nothing about?

borderline53 · 01/03/2026 14:54

This seems much worse though.

Another war was the last thing anybody needed, and I absolutely do not believe it was necessary. UK needs to keep out of it, trouble is I don’t have much faith in Starmer to stand strong when Trump clicks his fingers.

The fact I can do nothing doesn’t stop the worry.

The only time i've ever felt like this was 9/11 and I thought. shit, the US won't just accept this, WW3 is going to happen.

it didn't and it won't happen now.

How old are you? have you not been through this kind of situation before?

How much time are you spending doom-scrolling on the internet?

People probably said that before WW2. Every war has a precursor. The fact previous events didn’t lead to it doesn’t mean that there’ll be one that does.

I'm in my 60s and every couple of years of my life there has been something you could say this about - The cold war, Afghanistan, 9/11, The Gulf War, The Falklands, Ukraine.

The time I have and could have wasted worrying.

Honestly, this isn't worse than any other time, there's just constant news coverage and social media now. The best solution is to really limit the amount of time you spend looking at this stuff. Stay informed once a day then get on with the day to day life that is actually happening around you.

Viviennemary · 01/03/2026 15:11

I think WW3 is more likely to start over Ukraine or the next country Russia decides to invade.

No need for the aggresive tone.

Mehmeh22 · 01/03/2026 15:14

It might not be war, but it sure as hell will affect our cost of living because the majority of places with oil reserves are either in a war or near a place of war where they have to pass.

SisterTeatime · 01/03/2026 15:14

Honestly, and I mean this kindly, why not focus on being grateful that we are NOT the ones at war, unlike the brave people of Iran - who have in fact welcomed the intervention by the US and Israel.

It would be good if there weren’t any wars, but war is part of human life on this planet. in this country today( assuming youre in the UK) we live an extraordinarily safe, comfortable and peaceful life by any historical standard.

Loads of posters speak like this on MN. They think it's acceptable hiding behind their gadgets.

Yes it’s not so much being involved in a physical war, it’s the effects of wars, we’ve had that already from the Russia /Ukraine war, there’s the potential for even more pain for us from this war.

ThatLemonBear · 01/03/2026 15:18

IMO you only need to start worrying if Russia or China decide to weigh in and support Iran, and fingers crossed there is no sign of that. So far, this is just the same old same old and I think it’ll blow over in a few weeks (although I should admit that over Xmas 2019, my hubby was telling me about this new virus emerging in China and I pretty much said “oh, so it’s just the flu then, whatever”. So I’m no Mystic Meg)

Tuliptana · 01/03/2026 15:21

Try not to watch too much news OP.
Im more concerned with the.price of petrol and diesel. Just seen its up 5p since yesterday and my local FB page talking of queues for fuel this afternoon.

Jamesblonde2 · 01/03/2026 15:25

I don’t think it will cause WW3 but I think we will have incidents/terrorism in the U.K. because of it, because there are so many Muslims who live in the U.K. now and SOME of those Muslims won’t be happy about what is happening in the ME as SOME Muslims still align themselves with those regions, rather than being for eg English.

Consequently and annoyingly I think we’ll experience issues on our own soil.

It's not leading to WWII. Iran is very weak now and we also have other Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE etc joining forces with the US to end them once and for all. For it to be WWIII who will fight for Iran? China? Russia? North Korea???

Russia has its hands full and China will not fight for Iran, I don't see the benefits and China only does things for its interests. Iran has lost influence with all its terrorists groups that it uses to attack its enemies like Hezbollah, Houthis etc.

I hope the people can continue to fight and kick out the regime once and for all.

RonaldMcDonaldTrump · 01/03/2026 15:30

I'm not remotely worried. Iran is a pariah state. It has no credible allies, and it's going to take more than the support of Hezbelloh, the Houthis and Isis to counteract the US threat. Russia can't and won't get involved, they can barely afford the current war they're in.
There is no way China will get involved in with anything to do with the Middle East

I predict that it will go quiet soon... They are bombing other Arab countries, and I doubt if this continues that Saudi will just sit back and watch.

My only concern is any potential vacuum of power in Iran following the Ayatollah's death. But I think and hope that the youth and progressive people of Iran will uprise against any "like for like" replacement.

Ilovelifeverymuch · 01/03/2026 15:30

May the bloody Ayatollah burn in hell.

To be worried about this latest war.
FordExplorer · 01/03/2026 15:30

Asking on MN is futile, they’ll just try to spin it round to imply you’re overly anxious etc in the hopes of starting a pile-on.
I take the point about all the previous wars having been rumoured to be the beginning of WW3, but I think the worrying difference this time, is 1. Trump, 2. Iranian missiles and 3. Bloody Trump!!
