FFS what are you talking about? How is filling up the car with fuel going to make a damn bit of difference to anything?

Edited

So she doesn't run out if they quit shipping it over I guess.

Yes...start a protest outside the U.S. embassy and help get the orange war monger out of office !

OP, Where are you gonna go with your full tank of fuel in an actual war? If it really kicks off we are all fucked.

I think this thread is just about having her car able to be used generally, not about escaping in it. She is worried about fuel supply. So getting to Tesco without a bike, not fleeing anywhere ...

IndigoBluey · 01/03/2026 00:43

cant do much here, stranded in Dubai. No amount of toilet paper or fuel will help although it is very quiet 🤫

For reasons too dull to explain, I have about 8 tins of tomato soup in the cupboard, so I'll be OK for a bit 🍅

2 days worth of tomato soup ( at my eating rate anyway) you're stuffed mate !

Fill the screen washer thing too.

And maybe get a hoover of the floor mats?

SnowFrogJelly · 01/03/2026 00:49

Don’t be silly

We do, but most of it is gone and it’s been many years since North Sea production satisfied most of the uk’s oil needs.

...plus, it's mostly high quality oil used for industry, plastics etc not the low quality stuff used for making petrol . We import that from Russia , Iran and the like so we will be fine ...errr...!

SnowFrogJelly · 01/03/2026 00:51

Don’t panic!

Lavender14 · 01/03/2026 01:06

I think op, if anything WERE to reach crisis point then what serves people well is pulling together with their neighbours. And if you start to stockpile whether it's food or fuel you're going to create issues. So continue as normal until told otherwise. If you're really struggling with feeling anxious about it all then step away from the news and try to focus on things that are actually within your control.

Important question:
Is it still ok for me to have a Persian carpet?

I’ve got a Persian Chinchilla cat…is this ok?? On the plus side Ai don’t drive so no need for petrol werhoo!!

I just hate trump so fucking much. Why doesn’t he mind his own business for once? He is the one who is going to get Europe roped into all this shit.

With some of the rubbish he comes out with, I'm surprised he has not accidentally started a war before now.
I'm assuming he is thinking of his "legacy".

I'm watching the developments with interest but know there's not much I can do.

I'm allergic to peanuts and pistachios so won't cry about Dubai chocolate being unavailable 😏

BlackeyedSusan · 01/03/2026 01:46

"Getting prepped" generally happens before shit hits the fan. Now is a bit late to be rushing out and buying a lot.

Building up stocks gradually is more advisable.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 · 01/03/2026 01:58

Out of curiosty. Where would you drive to?

Gordonaire · 01/03/2026 02:10

Hummus maybe?

I'm glad to hear that it's quiet. Stay safe.

Elishiva · 01/03/2026 02:15

I was supposed to fill the car up yesterday, ended up having a lazy day so will do it tomorrow.
If there was a nuclear war I would drive towards the epicentre, I’ve had enough shit, I don’t want to live in a post apocalyptic society.

DeepRubySwan · 01/03/2026 03:58

What can you actually do? US has total dominance of the sea ways in the region at the moment so oil will flow freely. There is nothing you can do and honestly Iran is falling like a house of cards anyway.

double0seven · 01/03/2026 05:31

BackinRed101 · 28/02/2026 19:32

speaking of, when we had the toilet paper shortage during covid why did people not just use baby wipes instead ?

Because you cannot flush them down the toilet.

BeanQuisine · 01/03/2026 06:51

0% of our toilet paper comes from Iran so don't even think about it.

The petrol station was busy and its obvious oil prices will sky rocket if the situation remains so unstable.
I will admit i am very anxious. My partner is an engineer snd was in Kuwait only 3 weeks ago. Thankfully he is now in Asia but with flights being cancelled, i do worry how he will get home. Such an awful situation .

Edited

I'm in Asia and the flights to the UK are relatively unaffected but airlines will be avoiding the area so prices will increase.

NewHere83 · 01/03/2026 08:28

It's interesting how many people are taking shots at OP for trying to do exactly what the UK govt preparation campaign and the strategic defence review ask people to do. Our resilience as a country is shot. As a minimum everyone needs 3-4 days of bottled water and canned food, plus emergency lighting and communications plans. It doesn't matter how good your defences are, if each household can't last more than 24 hrs if infrastructure is hit then the govt would have to capitulate to any demands pretty quickly. Resilience is part of deterrent, and the OP is being mocked for literally meeting the minimum standard our govt has asked us to stand up to.

Derpytiger · 01/03/2026 08:44

I'm going to look out my recipes using powdered egg just in case.

There’s a difference between long term general preparedness (eg having bottled water and a few tins of food) and the population as a whole rushing out to panic buy fuel and loo roll all at the same time. That’s what causes shortages.

She’s panicking. A full tank of fuel won’t help, it will just feed more frenzy and queues to petrol stations with wallys Witt cans taking all the petrol.
