Ocado blocking entire road at 7.50am

Eseedeepee · 24/02/2026 08:22

On my way to work this morning at 7.50 and come across an Ocado van blocking the entire road, no way to get past and can’t reverse as it’s just beyond a bend and nowhere to turn around.

This house is on a corner so a choice of places for Ocado to park, plus they can use the trolley to park a bit further away. The van was about 4 meters from the front door.

Nobody in sight so I give a beep to let them know someone is there and can’t get past. Ocado lady comes out and doesn’t acknowledge the situation at all, no wave of sorry/ won’t be long, no speeding up etc. This is what really hit a nerve.

So I beeped again, this time out of anger more than anything, she wanders off carrying one basket at a time, so I beep again. Lady from the house comes out shaking her head at me doing T time out hands at me (I wasn’t beeping at this point).

AIBU?

Obviously if this was an ambulance, or a post man jumping out quickly, it’s different, but for me it was the audacity that someone thinks they can block the road at a busy time of day just to get their organic blueberries? And say you have a vulnerable person at the address - why can’t Ocado park a few meters further and use their trolley - isn’t that what it’s for??

We have a similar situation near me, except it's a Tesco van. The person who lives in the corner house always gets a Tesco delivery every Thursday at pick up time for the primary school opposite her house. Without fail, it parks right on the corner so neither cars nor pedestrians can see round it. Just why?!

MidnightPatrol · 24/02/2026 08:26

I think you are overreacting.

Life is full of mild inconveniences like this, it’s just a feature of living around other people.

The huge rise in delivery services / vans is not reflected in parking availability; and there’s not really a solution to that, so they have to stop in the middle of residential roads.

And YABU for honking your horn at 750am on a residential street.

Your ‘organic blueberries’ comment gives the game away, I’m afraid…

She said there was other parking available.

rwalker · 24/02/2026 08:38

Whilst not ideal life is too short what did all this stressing and tooting achieve

they Probably made you wait due to your impatience and tooting

AmusedMember · 24/02/2026 08:54

Annoying, but if someone kept tooting at me I'd take my sweet time!

Didn't think of anyone else on the street while you were tooting and possibly disturbing them at that time?! Ofc not, you were too busy thinking of yourself....

Happyjoe · 24/02/2026 08:57

Yeah, sorry, tooting your horn at that time of the morning on a residential street makes you as inconsiderate as the delivery driver.

CleanSkin · 24/02/2026 08:59

I find Tesco drivers’ assumptions that they can park like Ocado’s vans do to be terribly entitled, frankly.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 24/02/2026 09:24

I had an Ocado order yesterday. On my own drive. Didn't inconvenience anyone.
No organic blueberries.

AnotherChangeDay · 24/02/2026 09:27

YANBU, the T- sign would have made me see red, patronising get

Contact Ocado with all the info and hopefully the driver will be told to be more considerate

I live near a primary school. Can understand why the lady might have been fed up with school run parents and booked a van for this time. Not that anything seems to be able to persuade them they could park a couple of streets away and walk…

StopWindingBobStopWinding · 24/02/2026 09:36

I am fairly sure that any delivery driver can block a road for up to ten minutes, at least. I’m not sure where I got it from but I have a formidable memory for facts and this one is stuck in my brain. Using your horn for anything other than warning of a hazard, though, is definitely not legal. So I don’t think you have either the law on your side or the moral high ground here. I have just had a search on the web and it seems my memory is working fine; AI says the following:

Ocado blocking entire road at 7.50am
Rubberduck01 · 24/02/2026 09:39

In all honesty you were being unreasonable and inpatient. It would only have been a few minutes.

NewYearNewMee · 24/02/2026 09:43

Beeping in anger is a bit silly! Tbh after 3 beeps I’d have asked you to time out too 😂

We get Ocado delivered and they’re never parked up more than 2-3 minutes, did you genuinely not have the patience for that? Things can be annoying but you could have given this way less headspace (considering it’s an hour + later and you’re on SM for some vindication) and things would flow a lot smoother. Sometimes people are idiots or annoying, it’ll be your turn one day!

Bearsdolovetrees · 24/02/2026 09:48

Take a photo and complain. I get so fed up with this in our stretch of roads. All the people saying ‘oh hey can’t you wait a few mins?’ Well no, you can’t if you have a train to catch or an important meeting to get to. An Ocado stop is at least 5 mins which is the difference between being on time and missing a train.

nomas · 24/02/2026 09:48

YANBU, as you say, they had plenty of places to park where they weren't obstructing vehicles.

You should have taken a pic and reported them to Ocado.

The Tesco delivery parks outside my drive because it's a double dropped kerb, but I don't mind as he moves quickly when he sees me get in my car.

😂😂😂

LakieLady · 24/02/2026 10:06

I live in a road that is only wide enough for two vehicles, and there are cars parked along most of one side. Delivery drivers don't have a lot of choice but to block the road, and they don't generally take more than a couple of minutes to unload.

No-one seems to get particularly pissed off about it, not even with the woman across the road who gets three supermarket deliveries a week, for some reason.

What riles me is the builders' merchant's lorry that blocks the entire width of the road round the corner for over 30 minutes at a time, and fucks up the bus timetable. We only have a half-hourly service, and there have been 3 occasions that I know of where the bus has missed a complete journey. It pisses off the bin men, too, as they have to wait for it to move.

The first bus isn't until gone 9am, and I often see builder's lorries out and about a good hour earlier than that. I don't see why they can't make that delivery earlier.

Yeah, sorry, tooting your horn at that time of the morning on a residential street makes you as inconsiderate as the delivery driver.

Well if the inconsiderate driver of the van had parked up properly then the car driver wouldn't need to use the horn in a residential street would she

Barrellturn · 24/02/2026 11:26

Is just take down the reg and phone ocado to complain

Kdowbe · 24/02/2026 11:28

What is the T sign?

Snorlaxo · 24/02/2026 11:30

Yanbu to be angry that you couldn’t get past but did it occur to you that people work nights so could be trying to sleep while you tooted your horn?

The time out symbol would have annoyed me too.

NemesisInferior · 24/02/2026 11:41

Yeah, it's annoying but to sit there and just toot your horn is dickish.

If you were in a rush, actually get out of your car and talk to the person. If you weren't in a rush, then it only takes a few minutes to unload some shopping, so just wait.

MyDeftDuck · 24/02/2026 11:41

I’ve lost count of the number of times that I raised issue with Tesco regarding their delivery drivers! I’ve reported in store and online……..the last time I emailed the CEO because I was fed up with the dangerous driving practices! How these people pass the driving test beggars belief! It does seem to have improved for now but no doubt, it will start up again once a new cohort of idiots start driving for Tesco!

An Ocado stop is at least 5 mins which is the difference between being on time and missing a train.

And I did miss my train - by about 5 seconds! I’d even built in 5 minute buffer time to my 10 minute drive to the station and still missed it because of this! Late to work by 30 mins, so had to leave 30 mins late, so had to call school and get my 4yo a last minute space in after school club. All this I knew was going to happen when I saw the van blocking the road and why it made me so mad. What and I’m supposed to just sit and wait patiently for them to do their shopping. I could have done my own shopping in that half hour I lost this morning!
